Triad Template Tips

This is a recording of our live demo of Triad Template Tips with Lisa Spangler to celebrate the launch of our new product, the Triad Template, co-designed by Lisa herself!
The Triad Template is two tools in one: a template with six sections to plot your primary and secondary colors and a circular protractor. In this demo, we will explore color with Lisa: she’ll share suggestions for mixing triads, three ways to use our new Triad Template, and tips for setting up your palette. From Lisa, “We’ll have a spec-trum-tacular time!”
This demo also celebrates the launch of our limited-edition Triad Palette! Working with our mutual friend and expert paintmaker Kelly Hollstrom, founder of Letter Sparrow, Lisa curated a set of four triads to align with each season of the year. We designed a special Pocket Palette in a beautiful teal blue with a custom pan arrangement of Mini Pans and Small Mixing Pans. The custom lid design features the clean, geometric linework of an overlapping triad.
Over the past few years, Lisa has shared her enthusiasm for watercolor and design with the Art Toolkit community through demos, a workshop, and as an Ambassador.

Love this! I ended up looking into colour theory for exactly the same reason - to find out how many ranges of greens I can mix. And yes, pigment numbers!!! My favourites on the paper I use are Holbein Cerulean Blue PB35 with a range of yellows for different moods of green (muting down if necessary with tiny amounts of PBl7), and Holbein Quin Red PV19 with Cerulean Blue for darker Blues (with tiny amounts of PBl7 if necessary. Such fun to discover

Hmmm. PR122 is Opera Pink in my paints and Hansa Yelliw Deep is way deeper/orangey than your example. What Brand of paint are you using?

The limited edition set contains paints by Letter Sparrow. I sent an email about this. I think the PR122 is in error. Quin Magenta is PR202. Pretty sure that's what should be in the Summer triad. I went by pigment numbers to avoid name confusion and the Opera Pink didn't work the same at all. I have Daniel Smith paints and created my own palette using those and an empty Art Toolkit Palette.

Hi there! The demo was done using handmade paints from Letter Sparrow and we listed alternatives in the description. Anything with "opera" in the name is generally a fugitive (non-lightfast color) so I tend to shy away from them. They generally use a base pink pigment and add color enhancers/brighteners. Hope that helps!
