If you look up Oppositional Defiance Disorder, there is a picture of Darrell Brooks. "Adults with ODD are more than just aggressive and irritating from time to time. They feel mad at the world every day, and lose their temper regularly. This may manifest as verbal abuse or road rage. Adults with ODD defend themselves relentlessly when someone says they’ve done something wrong. They feel misunderstood and disliked, hemmed in, and pushed around. Constant opposition to authority figures makes it difficult for adults with ODD to keep jobs and to maintain relationships and marriages. They are particularly quick to anger, they are impatient, and they have a low tolerance for frustration. They see themselves as mistreated, misunderstood, and unappreciated. They see themselves as the victim rather than the cause of the pain in the family system."

I don't know if any lawyer would take the appeals case. To do so, a lawyer would have to review the entire record of this trial (13+ days) and come up with a basis for appeal, and then write a legal brief on the case law about that basis. Since the judge is being so patient with Brooks, there may be nothing a lawyer can appeal.

This is unacceptable. The judge has been so patient out of abundant concerns for the outcome of the verdict. I’m so laughing now at the fact that Brooks……affectionally known by his admission as the “alleged defendant claims that the jury view should not take place because whether or not he waives the right or agrees to be present….. he doesn’t give his consent for it to happen. There’s one thing that the judge made perfectly clear to him and to the prosecution…… the red Ford Escape SUV is evidence. Specifically it is the murder weapon. That being said, the law indicates that this piece of evidence should be viewed by the jury just as any piece evidence is presented before the jury in the court room…… case in point….. the hoodie and sandals that the officer just held up was viewed by the jury. It’s their right in determining the verdict that they will render one way or another. The difference between these pieces of evidence and the vehicle as was clearly stated by the judge is that the vehicle was too big to bring into the court room. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that it is evidence and needs to be seen by the jury. Up to this point the vehicle has been presented in evidence via way of pictures, video cameras, eye witness testimony and clear documentation. Viewing the actual vehicle would tie in any evidence regarding it that has already been presented. I use another case to explain this. During the OJ Simpson trial the jury was taken to Mr. Simpson’s estate where they conducted a said jury view. This is no different. Another point that needs to be made here……. any evidence that is brought into this court is not controlled by either party….. meaning that Mr Brooks doesn’t have the power to prevent any evidence from being brought into court. It doesn’t need his consent. In the same regards, any evidence that Mr Brooks brings in on his defense doesn’t require the consent of the prosecution before being admitted. Evidence is evidence and isn’t controlled by the defense or prosecution even if they don’t agree with it. So Mr. Derrick Brooks defendant…… charged with these crimes is going to be destroyed by the jury….. plain and simple

Even with him getting one in ten + objections right, does he think he has a prayer against real lawyers and the fact that he has been videotaped committing the crimes and has given no explanation for his actions? I watched the trial live and many times on KZbin and I am still incensed by this sorry excuse of a human perpetuating his crimes by conducting a charade of a defense in court. He is vile.

For all those people commenting particularly from the states, I'd like to address something... although many, if not most of you find it an anathema that DB is able to defend himself, or treat the town etc with such disdain, this is the democratic rule of law in progress. With the absolute right for him to do this, comes the absolute set of laws that work for both sides in a democracy. There are many, many countries around the world, where judges, juries and constitutions don't even remotely exist. The ability to live in a country that has rules and laws, that allow accusatory, exculpatory and subsequent conviction or acquittal of its citizens, is a right that people should fiercely defend. It may often feel downright unfair, or evil, but it's a system for the people and by the people.

None of that is worth it if he can still cause additional damage and stress to the families like he has. In fact those families could have been subjected to so much more pain it might have been unbearable being called to the stand or forced to watch him insult them. No law is perfect. Laws change. This is one aspect of law that should be.

I have sat during many trials, court cases. I have watched a lot of different high profile cases unfold online. This defendant is the absolute worst person who could’ve decided to defend themselves. 80% of his questions aren’t relevant to his case, he’s questioning medical professionals about organ donation, and how diagrams are drawn. Meanwhile he doesn’t understand basic courtroom decorum, basic terminology, and can’t pronounce the simplest of words, despite being exposed to correct pronunciation by the prosecution and Judge. What he did was unthinkable, and all he did here was try to cause a mistrial, or guarantee a retrial, based on ineffective counsel (himself). Ludicrous that any defendant in any case would behave this way, and it’s proof that this was one last hurrah in his pathetic life.
