Haha just noticed the size diffrence between the two on the left:D So whats you final verdict on the sabers?

Yep, those two are the tallest and shortest fencers at the Bristol club, certainly an interesting match up! Sabres were really great. They are nice and stiff in parry and binds, much more like steel than say the KS synthetic. The only issue we had is we would like the balance further towards the tip, as they feel a little hilt heavy for this type of weapon. Black Fencer have already been in touch with me and said they could increase the blade weight to do this and I will hopefully get one with some changes made soon. I'd also like a more rounded base/back to the pommel to represent the 1803 flank officers sword, but that's just us. They are selling them as Polish sabres, so they are that way for a reason. All our fencers enjoyed using them. If we could only have them as is then we'd still be happy, but with a few tweaks, even better.

How to these compare to the purpleheart stuff?

Can't tell you unfortunately. We avoid buying kit from the US where possible as the shipping and import duties inflate the price substantially. These Black Fencer models come out a little cheaper even before shipping, and have no import duties at all, being in the EU.

I'm really really not picking on the guy you're sparring with, but is he a rookie? He seems to do the same awkward responses that I see a rookie doing in traditional fencing. It also looks like he's not used to the weight of the mask. But he does seem to be skilled, regardless.

Far from it, that is Mike, the other instructor at the AHF. He mainly teaches longsword, but to fight him with sabre, you'd realise he is incredibly good.
