I feel that Smith has suddenly started enjoying Trials again. There was a long period where Trott would just finish every race and 9/10 be the only one with Smith seemingly a little uninterested, but lately I feel he's getting into it a lot more now that he seemingly knows what he's doing and how to play.

The "gravitational constant" is a thing, but it's the constant that's used to calculate the gravitational force between two bodies. (This is where I push up the bridge of my glasses and speak in a nasally voice.) Obviously the force of gravity between a person and the Earth is a very different value than the gravitational force between a person and the moon.

I know you'll probably never read this Trott, but you were close with the time dilation thing. It's actually gravity that affect time. I'm not going to get too much into it, but time 'flows' slower the closer a clock gets to a gravitational mass. Atomic clocks onboard aircraft are proven to run slightly faster, and GPS satellites actually need to have their clocks constantly corrected.

tathagathabuddha I think that it is less caused by the proximity to a gravitational mass, but rather by the speed at which these objects are going. According to the equation is: t'=t/(sqrt(1-(v^2)/(c^2))). Trott was in fact correct, as this is known as time dilation. 123eldest is of course correct as the gravitational force is determined by (Gm1m2)/r^2

I've spoken to RAF Merlin pilots who have said with certainty that helicopter crashes are safer. A merlin has three engines so control can be maintained in such a situation and they're normally closer to the ground.... that being said, 100% engine failure would mean I'd want to be in a fixed wing.

Gravity, for Trott's benefit, can be affected by concentrations of mass. According to E=mc2, this means it can also be affected by energy. Large concentrations of energy on a single point in space can warp the gravitational field of that space. This has been theorized to be able to create wormholes, although it would take far more energy than our sun could ever produce and stay stable.

Helicopter crash every day of the week. Less people and more likely to die. If I was in a commercial plane and some people died and I survived I'd feel like shit. Also, the screams of that many other people would stress me out far more than a guy trying to control a helicopter.

Time dilation is actually due to gravity. But yeah, gravity does differ depending on where you are. On earth, it differs slightly, but it remains in the ball park of 9.81ms^-2. Else where in the universe, gravity can be weaker, or so strong that light cannot even escape its pull (a black hole). Sorry, i just felt like i had to point that out xD
