It was inevitable.
We tried our best but the GasGas GP 300 was just too good to resist! In this episode, we are extremely fortunate that due to the stars aligning I have been able to gain some much-needed support form the team at GasGas Uk and John Shirt Motorcycles in setting up this new weapon!
After having two back-to-back fuel-injected machines out will be difficult for me to go back right?
Well, we will have to see, won't we!?
Honest review, honest interview and a great new episode for 2024!
This is Trialtube!

Well Danny, I drove 130 miles (one way) yesterday to buy a brand new 2023 GAS GAS TXT 300 Racing. Everything you said about the bike was spot on. Looks AMAZING, fit and finish is awesome. Engine runs like glass, almost electric, and the clutch engagement is smooth and super easy to pull, like butter. And then there's that sound! Like music! Even my wife thought it sounded great. I felt completely planted on the wider foot pegs, even though they look a little strange sticking out from that super narrow motor. I loved everything about the bike, and the price at $6995 OTD, I was in new bike heaven. ALMOST. When I drove off to go back 130 miles home, that beautiful bike was still sitting in the parking lot and not in the back of my truck. Why you may ask? I couldn't start the stinking thing. Who ever designed that kick start mechanism that has MAYBE 4 inches of engagement before it smacks the foot peg should be fired, or maybe shot. What a terrible design. My last Gas Gass, a 1991 TXT321 and 2000 280 were easy to start and the kick starter didn't smack the foot peg. They started doing that, what about 2002 with the first Pro? Now I've been kicking these things since 1967, so I know how to kick a bike. My Beta (pronounced Beta here but Beetah over there) Evo 300 takes a healthy kick to get it spinning, but after 1 or occasionally 2 kicks, it's running. ALWAYS! Hot or cold. Not that GAS GAS though. My 70 year old leg doesn't kick like it used to, but I kicked that thing twenty times, trying everything I could think of to get it to fire. No dice. The twentysomething salesman finally got it to fire after he'd kicked it a dozen times rapid fire while it was sitting on the box. I was cringing watching him machine gunning that kick starter and was afraid he was going to break something or strip a gear, smacking the foot peg each time. After he finally got it running I was able to ride it around the parking lot and that short ride proved everything you said about the bike to be true. It was "AWESOME". So I brought it back, pulled the kill switch and went to kicking again. Even warm I could not start that bike. There's no way I'd ever be able to ride it in a Trial where I'd have to kick that thing into life 40 or 50 times while wearing knee pads and five pound AlpineStars while standing on rocky, sloped side hill. After I caught my breath and quit sweating, I tried once again to start that beast. Finally got it to fire after a dozen kick while it was sitting on the box. Shut it off and tried it again. No dice. I finally had to give up and admit defeat as all I was doing was dinging up their new kick start lever where it smacked the foot peg while also marred the foot peg. What a terrible design to an otherwise AWESOME bike! If I'd taken that thing home, which I fully intended to do as I had an envelope full of cash in my back pocket, I'm afraid I would have ended up hating that beautiful machine. I don't even want to try to find a 250 now as it may be easier to kick, but I know it will have that same miserable kick start mechanism. Bummer. Keep up the good work so us mere mortals will know what to expect when contemplating a new bike. I wish I could have said "It's new bike day!"

Great video as always. Had 4 GG's. Last one was 2000. One thing you'll learn, is that you'll need to have like a three year supply of riding pants. Nothing gets hotter than that big curled exhaust header. That thing gets scorching hot, and will melt through a pair of riding pants in a nano-second. Worst Trials bike burn I ever saw was a GG with a young lady who fell over and got her leg trapped beneath that pipe. Right down to the meat! Ugh. That said, I'm still riding a Beta, but when I do get the hankering for a new bike, it'll "probably" be a GG. Keep up the good work.

Thanks again for the great content and details! Concerning the brake tip, this was the first thing I noticed on mine. Looking closer at the foot lever, I noticed that the stop screw didn’t line up with the frame stop. I bent it out away from the bike to line up better and now the brake is much more reachable and comfortable to use.

l sell GG, Sherco, BETA, EM, TRS and Montesa at one shop in the USA. You just summed up the US trials market perfectly. They get forced on every GG dealership, even though 99% of the dealers in the US have no clue about trials or a customer for that bike so they end up selling them for no profit thus de-valuing the brand and the market. Going to be a rough ride ahead for some of the brands that don't have a enduro or street bike to sell as well.

The original pro nearly sent them bust, they went for a staple classic to a bike that didn’t work. Yeh it was the lightest bike but it had major issues, over heating, a clutch that was an off on switch , absolutely horrendous build quality and the over look was something of a kids painting. 2 years on it became a weapon and it is now .
