I've never owned any speakers before and after listening to a neighbors sound system I've been hooked! Not really knowing what I'm looking for I found these for only £409 which I think is a steal and I am going to order them after seeing your review 😊

Another great review. I think it appeal to people who like a minimalist system with a minimum of cables. Good suggestion to use it with a TV iso a soundbar. I can understand the approach for passive power system at this price point. specially from a speaker manufacturer.

I'm using these near field with a DAC off my computer. In this setup, I don't experience the shortcomings you mentioned like you mentioned. The speaker just sounds...good (or fun I might say). Clinical or measuring completely flat does not = aural pleasure to me. I'm impressed with them, but I guess I don't haven't developed the special audiophile ear yet.

This is the first video shot on my new camera. All the others have been shot on my iPad. Shooting during the day helped too. Only problem is that I am having to learn to use not only the camera but a new video editing software suite too. That is why the video came out a little later this week 😊👍

I’d definitely take the BRO2 with a decent integrated over these puppies. If they made the BRO2 active...well that could be pretty special - imaging kings for the price!

Thanks David, great to hear from you. The Elara’s offer decent performance for the money but you are right there is nothing that is going to grab you as exceptional. The BR02 is a replacement for the passive version of the Elara’s. I would like to take a look at them and see what they offer 😊👍

Just opened my new pair Borea BR02. Compared to my current Klipsch R-50 M II...both 5-1/4", Klipsch has more bass and sound stage seems wider. I prefer the BR02's silk tweeter and more balanced sound and imaging clarity. Also more refined sound than any bookcase I've ever owned. BTW, the Chesnut finish looks incredible and unique (I've never seen this finish from any brand). The metal bindings are so classy and premium feeling. BR02 are simply amazing for the small size!

Hi Tarun, interesting review. In this video you indirectly praise the Triangle borea br02 and I'm thinking of these as a possible upgrade to my Elac debut 5 (original edition). I run these with a Marantz m-cr603 with a Yamaha wxc50 streaming amp. This is quite a humble source and amp but I have been very pleased with the sound, so much so that when I tried full-sized components I didn't think the sound was so well-integrated. I think it's probably a case of system synergy and even personal taste - I can't believe that many audio geeks would agree with my assessment! Anyway, much as I love the Elacs, the one thing they are lacking is a more revealing treble and I wonder if the br02 would give me that while offering as good a performance in the mids and bass. Thanks for the great videos you put out!

Thank you Robert. I would consider the Traingle Borea BR02 a direct competitor for the Elac Debut 5. The likelihood is there will be relative strengths and weaknesses to both of those speakers. If you like the Elac sound, I would consider looking at the Debut reference. It may be more initial outlay but will probably save you more money in the long term 😊👍

I had considered the Debut reference, but as I'm looking for a more revealing treble and as I've heard that the debut reference continue in that laid back easy to live with vain, I thought maybe I should look elsewhere. Maybe if I'm after a speaker with the ability to draw you into the mix characteristics of the Elacs, along with decent bass which the original 5 definitely possess, and a revealing but unfatiguing top end then I should probably be looking in a higher price range. Don't know what it is about the original 5s; I've heard a handful of speakers at up to £500 and haven't liked any of them nearly as much. Sigh*

Many active speakers nowadays also have factory-adjusted equalizers that we cannot adjust. samne that bluetoorh speakers have. you get good sound in a cheap and easy way. Easy to get the right sound with EQ. Many active speakers today use class-d amplifiers since they take up little space but provide enough watts.

One set of binding post!! One set of freaky binding post on the right speakers! Would have fulfilled active speakers owners’ wet dream!! I’m so sure every one of us would wonder how our actives would have sounded driven by other amplification!! They have gone through the trouble of putting a crossover network into each cabinet., why the heck not add another pair of binding post and make it capable to work as a passive speaker?! Even a double throw double pole would have turned that existing binding post into an high level input. Sure putting a “proper proper” passive crossover in a high end speaker would make the price highly unattractive, but since Triangle has gone down this route why not make the unique feature and selling point? As always..,, Great review!! Loved it!! Thanks!! Keep up with the good work!!

I would have a difficult time choosing between the colours offered. I wouldn't want to rush that, they all had serious appeal. It is odd that in this day of Class D amplification that there is a single amp in each unit and a passive crossover. Sure, the additional (and likely smaller) high freq unit would add some cost but it makes the passive crossover components unnecessary so there's a credit there. I think that was a bit of a mistake, and as you mentioned if it's done properly as in the AE1 Actives the results can be good. We'll blame it on the bean counters I guess. Still, I saw a tear down of an Ikea (by Sonos) speaker and they had dedicated Class D units for low/high freq drivers and I'm sure it had the bean counter's blessing.

As much as we may prefer the 'ideal' of separate amplifiers and avoiding the passive crossover I would bet my bottom dollar that I couldn't identify which is which in a test, and chances are most people are the same... But we sure like to talk about it!

Thanks for the honesty as always. @ $800 with all of the input options, I wouldn't expect a tremendous level of quality. So the fact that they sound as good as they do, sounds like win. Although like you, the "active" moniker is a stretch. Coming from a pro background, active speakers are very comfortable to me. But again, how much can you do with $800, 600#.

Not the last word on bass depth but not boxy. Alot of color, texture, etc. Excellent high end but with a caveat. Took a while to break in. A lot of fiddling to get a good balance. Also I hear short time arrival issues. See fiddling above. But I have said too much. I don't want to color your impressions. A friend had the Cellos. Not finicky. Great full range speakers but much bigger than you typically review.

Thank you Atri. I usually have the Mojo output set to dark blue but adjust it sometimes. Then connect my Chord Signature interconnects via an Audioquest 3.5m to RCA adapter. I use the USB connection to my streamer 😊👍

Do really well measured speakers enhance your enjoyment? Some speakers which come to mind are Revel. They seem to have implemented technology which makes them measure very very well. Interesting topic. Maybe worth a video at some point. Speaker measurements are critical as part of the design process to determine flaws in the design. It is when amateurs do measurements that people can get easily mislead. Take something as straightforward as an on-axis gated frequency response from 1m away. It is easy to mess up. Even if they get it right what does it tell you? The sound power measurement is more important as it is a more realistic representation of what you are likely to hear in your room (taking into account reflected sound). Bear in mind that 85% of what we hear is reflected sound. Manufacturers will regularly trade a flat on-axis speaker response in favour for a smoother off-axis response. Does a flat frequency response sound the best to most people? Dr Floyd Toole and Dr Sean Olive would say so based on the research they did in the 80s and 90s at the NRC at Harman International (Revel parent company). My view is that it may be desirable in an ideal listening environment. No doubt the Revel, PSB stuff measures well and they are good sounding speakers. We rarely have ideal listening environments. A little deviation (+/- 3dB) can be quite appealing to different people. Examples: Mid bass bump between 50-100Hz to improve perception of dynamics, the famous BBC dip around 1.8 - 2KHz to reduce listening fatigue, boost in the presence region 2KHz to 5KHz to give a more forward presentation. Manufacturers mess with this stuff all the time. Not everyone wants a flat frequency response. Bottom line is that there is no substitute for listening for yourself. That isn’t always easy so second best is to seek out reviewers who’s experience of products matches your own. Excellent question. I hope this helps 😊👍👍

Hi Tarun I’m a subscriber to your channel an am thinking of buying the “Naim Uniti Nova” however, it’s come to my attention that Naim products need a minimum speaker cable length of 3.5 metres. Hi Mel, that was the case with old Naim amps as well as my Exposure amps. This was basically because in the pursuit of greater sound quality there was no impedance (Zoble) network on the output stage of the amp. They relied on the speaker cables to provide the right kind of impedance loading. That is why they required a circa 3m minimum figure of 8 speaker cable. I don’t think this is the case with the Uniti products but best to check with Naim 😊👍

I am fairly sure these speakers do cut out80hz and below and send that to the subwoofer so you can higher volume out of them before the woofers start to disagree with you listening levels.

In order to film, I have to remove the furniture and film in the kitchen area which has many hard reflective spaces and is much larger. It isn’t the best spot acoustically but give me the wide angle shot I desire 😉

May I ask why you chose these speakers over say the kef q350?

Hi Hugo, I actually like the LN01A a lot. It’s strengths suit me and it’s weaknesses are in areas that don’t bother me too much. However, in review mode, I have to put my own personal preferences aside. Objectively, it is a good rather than very good system for circa £600. Hence, Recommended as opposed to Highly Recommended classification 😊

what are these companies doing "forgetting" USB input? ;-) How do you connect lossless computer or the phone? btw there is no magic trick with DSP to push bass higher if the driver cannot do it without distortion - better to keep it rolling off rather then introduce unbearable noise ;-)

I think it is because the asynchronous input on USB requires a separate interface to the other digital connections. It is a cost saving thing 😉

Too bad the BC Acoustique SP 102 are no more... Could have been interesting to compare them with the Elara despite they are complete different beast. (2 full range 3' per speaker, also powered 2x25W class D /and with some passive filters inside). But typical highly musical entry level marvels.

the disadvantage of active speakers is that the amplifier takes up a lot of space inside the box which means that the bass does not become as good

That word being in inverted commas because it does highlight the acoustic space you review in so adds useful information to the reviews. You're so close to the upper tier of youtube production that you're very few steps away from a very slick and bang up to date channel presentation. I mention these things and the incredible progress you've made because perhaps your next upgrade should be a nicer camera? I you can narrow the depth of field, placing you the reviewer in crisp focus against a blurry background... That, combined with the aforementioned reverb (again that could be considered a plus) are the only things keeping you from the top rank of youtube vibe! Once again, this is coming from a long time sub/viewer that wants you to keep improving as you have been since the early days... All coming from a respectfully constructive place. Go back and look at one of your first batch and see how far you've come! It's already night and day there. Of course, signing off with "Picard out" would solve all those problems instantly:D In al seriousness though, it's been great seeing your channel evolve like it has... Long may that evolution continue! Thanks for the vids, they're always enjoyable even if the gear is way out of my price league, J James Ps... A challenge: Squeeze as many very subtle Trek (or whatever you fancy and have love for) references in a review - the kind that no ones would recognise but those who know, will love:!

Thank you JJ. I appreciate the feedback. This video was my first shot on my new Canon M50 as opposed to my iPad. I have to use it with a shotgun mic some 6 feet away which doesn’t help the sound. My Lav mic won’t reach. A new mic and a low aperture lense are in the shopping list but I may have to wait a while 😊👍

I suspect you could do with a mannequin or assistant to take your place on the "set: and allow you to really get playing with the various focal lengths and other related settings while unconstrained by moving back and forth - apologies if this is what you're already doing - you seem one step ahead at all times so perhaps I'm teaching you to suck eggs, so to speak:D Check dumpsters behind department stores for them, they get thrown out regularly... That's where I found mine! Or, heaven forbid... A "blow up doll" for purposes unfathomable, but in all honesty, usually built as a comedic prop for a certain genre of stag party.

hmmm, I just discovered tis channel (subscribed :P ) and this brand of speakers. I was looking at the edifier s2000MKIII or the JBL 305P mkII (uuugly :P ) . But I am getting more and more pulled towards the triangle :) goal is to use the new speakers as desktop speakers and connect them using spdif or coaxial

Guys i need an advise. I am looking for a speakers, there are Proac D2, Sonus fAber GP home, Vienna Beethoven, Bach, Harbeth Monitor 30 7e3s, Spendor S6e. What would;d you commend? I like SF sound but i don't have McIntosh to kick them in. Amps choice is pretty limited

Some good brands there. It all comes down to personal choice and partnering equipment. My advice narrow it down to 3 somehow. Listen to all 3 and pick your favourite 😊

@@abritishaudiophile7314 Thank you for a reply, unfortunately i can listen to very few of these ie harbeth and Proac tablettes (to d2). Others would require me travelling along the country. I prefer british sound with high resolution which leads me to ATC, but there are no offers. And amp choice is very poor for me: mccormak powerdrive, krell kav 250, classe cap150, primare a32, yba ar, Hegel H1. and few others. I would;d go for Sonus Faber GP with my eyes closed, BUT i can't buy a Mcintosh for them and other cheaper amps won't really drive them good enough

@@moriart13 you are right that makes things tricky. Take a system approach. Certain brands of speaker work well with certain amplifiers. This is a big generalisation but the house sound of the following combination are... Harbeth / Hegel - warm Sonus Faber / McIntosh - warm ProAc / - pretty neutral

It ain't my first Hi fi setup, and i really forgot how exausting it is to run around and listen to different combos, like i did 15 y ago for my first cheapo setup. I know classic combos like Harbeth/Naim, SF/Mcintosh, etc. I would really go for Sonus Faber but they require Mcintosh or Plinus or Electrocompaniet. Also there is a sweet offer for Harbeth S HL5, he asks a bit too much but isn't it and "endgame speaker"? How would it deal with Classical music ie symphonies?

@@moriart13 end game is at difdent points for different people. I am not sure it will handle big symphonic music that well. There is no substitute for cone surface area where that is concerned.

I would go with the studio gold 8-inch tannoy coaxial active powered monitors £100 cheaper as well a better speaker should get a pair in That's not a very nice way to describe it eggplant that's a bit of an insult lol wouldn't burgundy sound better considering their French. I'm not a fan of speakers with built-in dac's what The tannoy doesn't have with a built-in DAC longevity is going to be compromised plus it's digital Yes the tannoy has dual biamp active ab amplification putting out 112db per speaker

I love vinyl. Just stupidly got rid of my turntable and my record collection in the 90s (about between 50 and 100). Getting a turntable isn’t the barrier, replacing the records is 😉

@@abritishaudiophile7314 sorry to hear that. I have about 800 vynal lps that have been stuck in an airing cupboard for the last 20 years, since I moved to Devon. Though its been a waste for me, id rather i had the oppotunity to dig out my old rosewood Roksan xerxes if i had wanted to. Feeling the urge and not having the records must hurt. There is some vynal LP i just cant seem to replicate and i miss some of that in my all digital world now. XD
