This movie has perhaps the most complex time loop structure ever concocted in film, which includes both the land and sea segments. However, in order to make this time loop work, the filmmakers had to dumb down the characters. Plus, the movie has a number of inconsistencies, as you pointed out. In the end, I still think the filmmakers deserve credit for their audacious vision, even if the execution fell short.

I have watched this review several times, even caught the movie on Freevee or something. The only logical way the ending makes any sense is if the second loop starts everything, since that is when she broke time by killing her past self, and all the time displacement is a side effect. So the version that kills herself goes on to write the note, and the mirror note, and catch her necklace on the grate. But, since she kills her looped self mid way through, everything falls apart. Kinda like this movie.
@Alucard-A-La-Carte2 жыл бұрын
This is one of those unplanned, weird timing things, but I just realized watching these in-order: Hugo Stiglitz, the star of "Nightmare City" (the review immediately prior to this one) was ALSO in a badly dubbed Italian horror movie called... "Bermuda Triangle" about a boat crew that gets stuck in a time warp exploring the Bermuda Triangle. It'd be a bigger concidence if he wasn't in approximately 20 movies every year (up to and including this one).

My english is not so good but I try to explain the "time travel plot holes": Jess and her son died in the car accident. The taxi driver is a kind of "grim reaper". She wanted him to bring her to the port. He asked her "do you come back" (to accept her dead and leave) and she said "yes". But she didn't come back and tried to run away from the death. She and the others died in the storm. The loop is her punishment for running away (and maybe abusing her son). Which means the reaper created the loop. There isn't exactly a start of the loop with only one jess, there are always four of them. She could escape the loop if she wouldn't tell the reaper to drive her to the port. She should go with him and accept that she is dead. It makes no sence in a scientific way of course if you look at the loop like it has something to do with time travel.... but it isn't time travel... it's kind of "magic" from the devil if you will😅 The movie wasn't intended to be scientifically correct. I watched a lot of explanation videos about this movie because I was also so annoyed by the plot holes🙈 A story like that exists in the bible or something, and there are easter eggs in the movie about the "original story". Anyway, great and funny review, I subscribed👌👌👌

Love the review and I didn't notice any edits, at least not if I don't watch them side by side. But I'm guessing there is a set number of loops that occur before it repeat. Its the best I could come up with to explain how many shotguns are on the rack, necklaces in the grate, and dead bodies on the deck. I think we're seeing the end of one full loop and going into the next one. But they didn't show, they didn't tell, so we're left to think of it ourselves.

I think it could have been a good surreal thriller if they just thought out the weirdness a little more. Let her actions make sense at first, then slowly show her exhausting her options until she's trying any crazy thing she can think of just to get something different to happen. You could actually keep the inconsistencies with the rules if you make it a feature instead of leaving it as plot holes. Have that play into her going insane because there isn't even any structure she can rely on. It could all make sense if you explain it as a special hell made to fuck with her like they were maybe implying. Say that the last abuse she committed before dying was leaving her young son alone at home to go party on a boat. Alternatively, this is one of those rare films where an it-was-all-a-dream twist would work perfectly. Dreams restart and semi-restart all the time, they're stupid and seem to make sense while they're happening but when you wake up nothing lines up. Have her alternate between sensical actions and nonsensical ones as she slips in and out of lucid dreaming. You could make a decently emotional ending where she wakes up feeling guilty for abusing her son, but then brushes it off and slowly forgets the dream. The dream looping would then be kinda reflective of her occasionally wanting to be better but ultimately staying the same every time.
@realcoolguy32493 жыл бұрын
This movie will make more sense if you actually imagine it as an alternate dimension instead of time travel, all these copies are just from alternate universes, that would help explain some of the errors.
