@sebastianoddsson8622 ай бұрын
Definitely. But there's a difference between expressing yourself to a sheet of paper or an ipad as opposed to sharing something with other human beings, especially directly, in whichever form, talking or whatever "art form". On another note.... I really love this channel, i.e. the concept, quality and most importantly the people featuring. Highly interesting, everyone is learning something new every video. Much love, cheers.

My mom was born on the same day as me in september. She passed away when i was 17. In over 10 years ive only celebrated my birthday once. Every year i go hiking and sit overlooking beautiful scenery and talk to her as if shes there with me. I know she'd want me to be happy and to celebrate the day but how could i when blow the candles out on my cake knowing my birthday wish will never come true.

As a mother of four adult children let me tell you what every mother wants. She wants you happy when you remember her! She wants you to feel the love! Every birthday cake every party she gave you was because that's how she wants you to spend your birthdays. You would break her heart by not enjoying yourself! You have permission from every mother out there to have a fabulous birthday every year knowing that is what your mom wants! Honor her love by doing what she wants!❤

“I feel as if he wrote it for me…” While some think Green Day to be silly pop punk, this is a very common theme to their music…I’ve been a fan since 1993, and there’s not an album that comes out where I don’t find some sort of personal meaning in at least one track (“She” has been my personal anthem for different reasons since I first heard it in 1994).

You guys bring the story of the songs you listen to back into my mind and enrich it. Youve made me see so many things in a different way and im greatful for that.

Some context on the "audience was with him" comment: by the time Green Day released this song, the month of September had become symbolically important for Americans. The Iraq and Afghanistan wars were collectively remembered as having started in September of 2001, although of course no troops were actually mobilized in that month. By 2004 most young Americans had also lost a relative due to these wars. This song became something of a protest against the wars, even though it wasn't technically about that. It just captured the experience of a child left behind by a soldier, who felt that the people sending the soldiers to war hadn't considered them, so well.

What a beautiful reaction! Thank you for sharing it. I've always known that this song is about the death of his father, but to me, it means something different. I have a condition called subsyndromal seasonal affective disorder, so as the seasons change and the daylight hours wane, I become restless and sad. September and October are the worst months for me.

I've never heard this song before. Thank you for sharing. My beloved Daddy died in September in 2010 at the age of 95. My mother died almost immediately afterwards after their being married for 71 years. September is hard. I had just turned 50 years old when it happened. I just turned 64 on Weds., two days ago. I was very lucky to have had my Daddy for 50 years, but there is never a good time to lose the one person you love most in the world. 9:56 "You can never forget the pain of losing your father." Truth. 💔

Thank you for another great video Adnan. The pain of loss is something that never truly goes away. I would be very interested in hearing what you and the rest of our friends would think about an artist named Stan Rogers, a Canadian folk singer from the 70s and 80s. His story is another of great loss, as a true treasure of Canada was taken from us much too soon. Take care all!

The song reminds me heavily of Papaoutai by Stromae. It's another song about someone who lost a parent and, in its case, it shows a child doing all the same things the other kids are doing with their parents but using a dummy. Might consider having them check it out sometime. Stromae's father was never around, always working, and eventually died in Rwanda. The song is about absent fathers, complete with the worry that he himself is worried he doesn't know how to be a father because nobody ever taught him how.

My favorite live Green Day performance was 'When I Come Around' at Woodstock '94. Woodstock is the name of a farming town in New York, where a very famous concert happened in the 1969 and then again in 1994. Both times the summer rains caused the turf to turn to mud, and all the young people there (nearly all of whom were on drugs) had an amazing time playing in it. Having our Trybals react to the various Woodstock performances both old and older would be interesting.

Our cultures are too different. I don’t think they would understand our societal ways of enjoying music or why we would have taken drugs for recreational purposes. I could be wrong but I think they have NO idea about how or why kids flock in the thousands to see a band and listen to amped up rock music. They don’t share our custom of having grown up on these kind of cultural rock concerts in Pakistan. But I’m glad Adnan has brought their attention to our music culture!

Wake Me Up When September Ends, the song was written by the band's lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong, and is about the death of his father in September 1982 and his life since then. The song's lyrics have also been interpreted as a song about the victims and survivors of the September 11 attacks.

My friend's 7 year old just lost her father. She's so strong, it's amazing. Her mom is losing it despite the relationship having ended several years ago and her daughter is just so matter of fact, talking about how he was a good dad and writing him notes.
@golwenlothlindel2 ай бұрын
Be careful of saying that she's "so strong". Permanence is kind of an abstract concept, that a seven year old brain doesn't really have the ability to process. She's insulated from the full impact of what happened by her age, for now. It might hit her like a runaway freight train later though, when her brain suddenly gains the ability to truly understand that her father is not coming back ever.
@sidhedanu2 ай бұрын
@sophiejones3554 I get that. It's hard to find the right adjective. I'm just really impressed. She's still processing & asking questions. "Will (uncle) be my new daddy?" To her mother "Are you going to die?" She doesn't want to do gymnastics or dance anymore, so it is definitely affecting her.
@golwenlothlindel2 ай бұрын
@@sidhedanu that's true. There isn't a good way to describe how grief affects young kids... I think because we usually try not to consider that as a possibility. 'resilient' is usually the word I'd go with, but I can't really say that is better. Yeah, the not wanting to do her favorite activities is very concerning. Also the repeatedly mentioning her father is definitely not helping her mother's processing. Are they seeing a grief councillor? I'm a little concerned from what you've said that if they are left to deal with this situation on their own they will just end up hurting each other.

I absolutely love this channel. I love the music reactions, the these men are absolutely full of knowledge. True, honest, God loving knowledge. Whether it’s Christian or Islam or whatever religion they practice, I respect it. These are good people that understand music more than Americans do for not even speaking the same language it’s written in. I’d love to send $50 if you’d have them sit down and listen to “Comfortably Numb live from Pulse”, I just ask that you let them listen to the 2nd guitar solo until the end without a pause, let them feel it, they’ll understand. I appreciate you (the channel maker) for putting this content out and bringing a gap in our societies. Thank you. Let me know where to send the $50

You could show them the Ramones! 'Poison Heart' would be a good start, it has good lyrics about the time Dee Dee Ramone (bass player and chief songwriter) was in a low point and decided to make major changes in his life, which included divorcing his wife and leaving the band, although he continued writing songs for them after he left and 'Poison Heart' was one of those songs.

Regarding the audience being with him: When I attended the recent tour, a fan initiative rallyed together to light up the crowd in pink and green lights when he played this song, as a show of support and love, because we know how hard it is on him to sing. We also all jumped in and sang along to help cover when he had a choke-up moment like this one so he could catch his breath and get centered. Say what you will about Pop Punks and Emos, but by all that's good, we don't let our people hurt alone. Billy is one of us, and we have his back.
