You think cowboys made french fries on a cattle drive?
@ll7868Ай бұрын
Fun Fact: Old West cowboys rarely carried pistols, they more often carried shotguns and rifles to defend the herds of cattle or for hunting and had to shoot from horseback. The lead cowboy in front was the Foreman, the guys guiding the cattle with prods from the sides and rear were Cowpokes and Dudes were the NFGs who didn't carry guns, they used lassos as it was their job to chase and retrieve cattle that wandered off or got spooked by predators or gunfire. Modern Dude Ranches are places where city guys go to pretend they're cowboys, Dudes don't get guns nowadays either. Outlaws and lawmen carried pistols for gunfights, they weren't cowboys, some outlaws stole cattle from cowboys but they're not the same.

All true the western days are really skewed due to western movies
@ll7868Ай бұрын
@@grognok Inaccurate history is a pet peeve of mine, don't even get me started on Michael Bay movies, even Martin Scorsese is guilty of it, Tommy never had a funeral because his body was never found. The Old West was a sh!t show, cholera, dysentery, cannibalism, smallpox, measles, not to mention all the STDs. People like to point to the Old West claiming everyone had gun rights but even back then established towns had laws about turning guns over to authorities, the average person owned a hunting rifle and didn't carry them everywhere they went. Handguns and pistols were far more expensive as a way to keep people from buying them for duels, swords were already banned for the same reason. (Imagine people today claiming they want the right for carry & conceal swords for personal protection). Handguns sold to the public were also less powerful than military handguns, that trend carried over to police, modern cops use 9mm pistols while up to the 1980s cops could use the now banned 38, 44 and 357 caliber intended as military sidearms. A big reason for police bans on those guns was Dirty Harry, every police officer wanted a hand cannon and were getting out of hand with trying to act like Harry. If the police have to tone down their weapons so should the public otherwise what's the point of law enforcement if they're outgunned?

It's not a steakhouse. It's a Pakistani version of a "Western style" restaurant. Other countries, (including the UK and many countries in Europe) don't refer to cuts of meat the same way that we do in the US. Some places would call what we call a chicken breast, a steak or a cutlet. They might have some similar names, like pork chop, but some might simply call it a rib cut. I watched a British woman recently, who wanted to make an "American pot roast" but when the recipe called for a chuck roast, she had no idea what cut of beef that was. So she went to her local butcher and he knew, but he had to explain to her that the cut of meat is what they would call beef shoulder. We Americans need to learn that not all countries do things or name things the same way that we do. Not understanding other cultures and getting in an uproar about the differences between us, makes us look elitist and snooty. I love my country and I'm about as patriotic as it gets, but we really need to come to terms with the fact that we're not the center of everyone's universe.

Although being treated, I feel they were they were somehow denied the real "cowboy" meal which would have possibly been beef, bacon, beans, and cornbread. Fresh veggies like broccoli were not on the menu. Everything had to be well preserved for the long cattle drives.

One wonders if chicken fried steak got confused with chicken steak. Big difference. Also, cowboys are more like sheep herders than gun fighters...that is until someone tries to steal the cows. I imagine a sheepherder would fight to keep his flock together and out of harm as well. Historically, the old west was without law and order and quite uncivilized for some time in remote areas. That period did not last long and many towns required guns to be left with the sheriff while visiting. A good book on the west is Mark Twain's "Roughing It". Reality was not exactly Hollywood.

These fellas are eating better than real cowboys, the Cowboy 4 Food Groups are beans, bread, coffee and trail mix (nuts & dried fruit), it was all carried in the chuckwagon driven by the cook and a couple of laborers, usually teenage sons of the cowboys, who would go ahead and set up the camp before the herd got there. Eating beef was like a weed dealer smoking the product, there's no money to be made so they weren't allowed to eat their cows, cowboys on the trail to market had to hunt and fish for other sources of meat. Assorted dried meat jerky was popular.
