great talk ,to some extent tit for tat killings have been replaced by the discourse of whataboutery .Things have improved .I migrated to New Zealand found tribalism there too .The indigenous Maori were ridiculed .I was very supportive of them ,My son is now a fluent Te Reo (Maori ) speaker .Keep up the good work

Great discourse as usual Fintan. One of my concerns of the GFA is how the British have never been able to take the role of unbiased negotiator needed to bring the two groups together. Regarding people born in NI having the right to Irish or British citizenship or both. No true. In NI you are born a British citizen, whether you like it or not. If you want to be considered Irish you have to change it. Britain has also been slow and positively obstructionist regarding truth and reconciliation. And has totally failed to co-operate with the Irish government on the Dublin/Monaghan bombings in which the British collaborated with Protestant terrorists. Only the most naieve would seriously believe that when the time comes the British will co-operate in even having a Border poll, let alone implementing the results, should it find in favor of reunification. And you still have a few of your distracters lamely quibbling here in the comments - good for you!

I grew up in the troubles - born in 69. This does not reflect the world I lived in. Only an overly intellectual outsider from the south who only ever observed from afar could come up with this.

Very hard to listen to Fintan O Toole he typifies the Shakesperean qoute from Julius Caesar " scorning the means by which he did ascend" Educated for free?by Catholic school but at every opertunity joins in the criticism of the Catholic church who educated him him

Too many home truths I think. Secondary education was not free until 1965. Despite my Catholic education I managed to make it.
