As much as I love Texan bbq, I find that I have much more success when offering Carolina style to my foreign friends. Texas style uses too much brown sugar for them, but the sour nature of the mustards and vinegar in Carolina style are often much more appealing to foreign friends. America's natural produce is rife with sugar, so you need to appeal to the sour bitter and savory flavors to impress most with American bbq.
