@@moritamikamikara3879 Sadly true part of it is because the literacy rate in Balochistan is low so not many get to discuss their heritage with outsiders. Also Balochi is the language and Baloch are the people and not all Baloch tribes speak Baloch since many have switched to Sindhi, Sariki, and Arabic while a number of them are fluent in both Balochi and Brahui.

I make a veg version using soaked and pureed brown lentils as a sub for meat in my filling. Add your usual onions and rice. Surprisingly good. You may need to increase the flavorings you use as the lentils are bland but it makes a nice filling and sets up beautifully.

The pierogi's/vareniki's actually most probably originates from China. But has spread all over Eastern, Central and Southeastern Europe. It goes further back in history, even before written history. So it's a very, very old dish. Many dishes spread throughout the Eurasian continent through war (think Mongols and Huns) and the silk road.

When the Ukrainians went to other countries to train on military equipment their main complaint was '"Not enough soup!". Apparently they really love their soup there. Considering how cold it gets there, a hot bowl of hearty soup and freshly baked bread on a winter day would be just the thing to warm you up. Normally is contains pork and beef, but beef alone (or lamb which I don't like) would be just fine.

That's nice. I just told someone else that the Mennonites brought them to the US and Canada after having read about it. I'm very interested in the spread of food. Originally it comes from China, before written history and was spread by war (Huns, Mongols, etc.) and the Silk Road. These dishes are nowadays eaten all around in Eastern, Central and Southeastern Europe. And the area's where the Mennonites landed in the US, Canada and Mexico. The weird thing being that it all originated in my country, the Netherlands, but we have only a very, very small amount left. The Russian/Ukrainian Mennonites had a Dutch/North German background and kept to themselves. So your deeper roots would probably lie there.
@SteveKehler

If you're from the US, you likely have eaten some of these dishes, but they might have been called something else. We have a huge population from all over the world because of immigration, especially during the late 1800s and early 1900s when folks from darned near every country came (through Ellis Island on the East Coast and Angel Island on the West Coast) here and settled. And they all brought the recipes and foods from their cultures with them. Nowadays, it's virtually impossible to find a citizen of the United States, who isn't a descendant of immigrants from somewhere around the globe! It's one of the many reasons that we're thought of as the world's "melting pot"! 😊

Real borcsht soup should not be made of plain tomatos and carrots... real borcsht is based around beeds and cabbage... with a tiny bit of other vegtsbles such as onion (important) Potatoes (are optional too but common) Optionally: Meat a little bit of carrots bell pepers etc ,some seasoning garlic snd such to taste A little bit of tomato paste And served with some very strong fatty very sour high quality sourcream A good soup dosn't require meat It's perfectlt balanced and delicious without But it's an easy cheat to get a decent soup The same goes for potatoes You wonna see the flavor of the onions cabbge and beeds shine (with lots of diffrent spices but only mild spices) There are lots of recpies online but i'd suggest rhe simplest and without meat the traditional with sourcream recpies

Hopefully the Ukrainians will win the war against Russia. And borscht is best with sour cream (or even yogurt if you can't get sour cream), and you lost me at cabbage rolls (not to my taste).

There are several different pickle soups. Solyanka is common both in Ukraine and Russia, but it has no potatoes. Rassolnik is first of all Russian, and often made with fish. And, the Poles have their own varieties.

They did. Sometimes, we'll only hear them tell one of the guys a detail about or an ingredient in the food they're trying, but they'll edit the rest out of the video so as not to be repetitive. But during the filming, they explain things to each of them. 😊

Actually Chinese. But is such an old dish that the history is unknown. It spread throughout the whole Eurasian continent with the wars (Huns, Mongols) and the Silk Road. You can now find these in any East, Central and Southeastern kitchen with different names attached to them. But they are basically the same. And who knows, maybe even Samosas are a baked form of this.

Borscht is made with beets, mostly. They eat this all over Canada, but I don't like it. Never have. Veraniki is Russian and parogy is for Ukranians. The dough is made different and so are some of the stuffing. Which kind did they get?

And it's actually Pierogi and is with that name Polish. It has an Asian origin (likely China), although the history is unknown, and is eaten all over Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe. The Ukrainians know it as Vareniki. The Mennonites brought it to Canada and the US.

@@jooleebillyI grew up part of the Polish-American community; the two ways I've seen pierogi prepared most are boiled/steamed and served with butter/sour cream, or parboiled and then pan-fried with onions. Never seen a baked pierog before but I wouldn't be surprised if they do that in some areas.

It's standard for Ukrainian cooks to use pork in their Borscht and top it off with sour cream, whereas Russian cooks are more likely to use beef.
