Being of Ukranian descent, I am pleased the proceeds of this video will help Ukranians in their hour of need. My father, a chef, although French-trained, made all of the dishes in this video, because no one else was making them in the Northeast USA where I grew up, and he missed home cooking as much as the next guy. Prayers for Ukraine!

OMG, he spread smetana (sour cream) on a bread and then he put borsch on top. I've never been so frustrated in my life. I'm surprised they don't give any guidance in those restaurants. Usually, you put sour cream in borsch and you eat it with bread, salo (pork fat), onion, or garlic. Some people put some dill in borsch on top of sou cream. Also, it is often to make specific garlic buns called pampushky and eat them with borsch, but it's rare to see someone doing it at home, because it takes more effort.

"Ukraine is landlocked" -- are you guys serious? Take a look at a globe! It's about as land-locked as Turkey. Pretty much the entire northern Black Sea shoreline is Ukrainian. And if you visit a some place in that region you'll see the abundance of seafood that this restaurant doesn't show (nice as it is). I live some 60 miles away from the sea and I can witness to the fact that a great number of people prefer a variety of fish to meat.

Thank you for your support of Ukraine and our national cuisine! 🇺🇦 I would like to write a few comments as a person from Odessa. No hate, it's just not our way of doing things:) 1. There is no signature chicken soup in Odessa, it is usually made in families all over Ukraine. It's hard to say if it's really our local dish, as chicken soup of a similar type as in the video is also made in other post-Soviet countries. 2 Regarding pasta with mushrooms, it is a definite no for the Odessa region. Mushrooms and dishes with them are the specialties of Transcarpathia, but even there it would be difficult to find pasta with mushrooms, as most often in that region various porridges with local mushrooms are cooked. 3. Odessa has never been famous for dumplings as a specialty of this region, especially spinach dumplings. Dumplings are a specialty in central and western Ukraine. If you want to try typical Odessa dishes, then it will be forshmak and aubergine caviar.
