There is an inside joke here...the Lieutenant they keep mistaking for Kirk was played by Shatner's stunt double. It's a very inside joke by the writers.
@kelestra5 жыл бұрын
And in a bit of fridge brilliance, that is why he's contorting himself to look away from the camera. As a stunt double, it's literally his job to keep his back to camera while doubling the star, so out of habit he continues to keep the back of his head in view even when, in this case, he's playing a different character, and it would theoretically be better to establish that he's NOT Kirk. Which means in the DS9 version of the scene, O'Brien can be excused for mistaking him for Kirk, since he never got to see the lieutenant's face.

Okay, some people complain about how the DS9 crew didn't know what Kirk or the Klingons look like. First, for Kirk, apparently the guy they mistook for Kirk was his stunt-double, so they probably look alike. Second, you have to remember that A: the 'augment' Klingons are quite despised by the rest of the Klingon population, and B: they are used to Klingons that look like Worf.

Wesley Molt About Kirk, remember for DS9 it's 80 years after Kirk "died" maybe his Starfleet picture did not do him justice, or maybe Bashir and O'Brien are not history buff's? Think about this if we took a trip to 1860's would we be able to pick out historic people in a snap?

@@CHASEMARC We have some really super sharp photos of famous people from the 1860s. I'm pretty sure guys like Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Willian T. Sherman would be easy to pick out in a crowd. I don't know why, but there's something I find hilarious about when the very serious looking security officer firmly places his hand on O'Brien's shoulder

Brilliant episode! Great editing! My only complaint is the DS9 producers should have left in the original fight music.

I love how greatly DS9 synced that up with the older show, shadows and all.

I want to know what changed the Klingons. I haven't seen any of the original star trek tv show but I have seen a few of the captain kirk movies. the Klingons look different to the ones here. I want to know what happened to them. were there two different kinds of Klingon, like nationality's just like how us humans all look different depending what country we originate from. in the movies the Klingons are all like warf but in this they look human. can anyone tell me what happened.

It' also explained in the book "Forged in Fire". This wonderful book also: Explains how the Dax name became a famous one to Klingons. Explains the story behind the DS9 episode "Blood Oath" Explains how Sulu became Captain of the Excelsior. and more. Easily one of the best Star Trek books ever written.

Klingon augment virus

Its called a budget minded plot twist. They changed the look of the Klingons for the terrible first Star Trek movie. The only thing that was good about the film was the new 'look' someone in makeup decided to give the Klingons. They kept the head pieces for the Next Gen and Deep Space Nine shows so now there is a need for a 'virus' or whatever to change the Klingon look to the time when the budget of the first show only allowed for gag eyebrows and bad hair.

Essentially, it involves resizing the original videos, and repositioning them on a larger video "canvas"...The counters are "tied" to each video clip, so that the back/forth can be displayed accurately.
