I've been interested in seeing a tribo in action. Very interesting to say the least. I would like to point out, however, Corona style systems are operating at very high voltage at the tip (typically between 25 and 100 thousand volts (kV)). The reason it doesn't shock you too bad is because the guns are current limited (typically 0-100 microamps), and are low capacitance. This is very similar to common static voltage/current we see.

Who said the Eastwood wont hurt ya if you get bit by it!! That a huge lie! My Eastwood has jumped out 8 inches and see the electric hit my hand about 3 times a second! And it damn well hurts bad.. I had to through my gun to get away from it. This new Tribo is awesome you can hold the part while you powder it..

ManCraftingTM Kurt at prismatic schooled me on the powder. He said that the tribo gun is very good for avoiding faraday effect but will not shoot metallic. He recommended Corona gun for metallics and heavier stuff. He recommended the Eastwood dual voltage for the hobby Corona gun. So I bought the Nordicpulver tribo and the Eastwood Corona. Thanks for your informative video.

Gator Guida I found that there are a few colors that would separate using the Tribo, and maybe they had some metal in them that wasn’t apparent. In some ways it’s amazing, but you definitely did the right thing getting a second gun.

The paint needs to able to be used with that positive charge. Powders here, in N America, are made specifically for negative powder charge. Some will work with Tribo, but I’ve found companies to often be reticent about whether their powders will. I assume it’s a matter of liability. I’ve found a few that will. But it’s odd, as paint I’ve bought before that worked didn’t work from a later batch. So catch as catch can. The colors available here are extremely limited compared to standard powders. I’d love to have a reliable source, but I haven’t found one so far, and I’m not willing to directly import from Europe.

You're comment about other guns giving the powder a negative charge and being attracted to the piece because it has no charge is incorrect. The powder is positively charged and the piece is grounded with other guns (i used the hs02 and a eastwood gun). This system seems very limited to what powders you can use with it. for 50-60 more you might as well buy a redline ez50

im not sure if you have inverted the polarities.. something like gun is negative and the target positive, so the ions are attracted to the target.

I’ve not inverted anything. The gun is different than traditional powdercoating guns. That said they are challenging to find now.

this looks promising for 2 and 3 coats, I currently use the Eastwood dual voltage system and the only way that i can get good coverage on the second coat is to preheat. have you done many multi coat jobs with this yet? If so how does it compare, do you still have to preheat? thank you

So it's been 6 years since you posted this video. Have you had any trouble applying any powders with the tribo gun - metallics, etc? Would you choose this over a regular corona gun?

I wouldn’t choose it I’ve a regular gun. It has several benefits but it’s finicky on which powders it works with.

I enjoy watching ManCraftingTM and has taught me a lot on powder coating. But if you do buy this gun and don't like it, you can not return it and get back your money. I've tried for 3 weeks to return mine and I've either have been ignored or told "once the gun is returned we will decide if you will get your money back or not." when I received my gun it was poorly packaged, gun looks like something they made in 30 minutes and charge you $300, I had to go buy parts to actually use it, and when I did it shoots out powder like a cannon wasting so much powder and leaked in multiple spots. Do not buy this gun.

I saw this video the other day and immediately ordered the gun. I also have the east wood dual voltage and have the same problems as most of you all do with second, third coats. tried the gun today and shot corky pink from prismatic and it worked like a dream (except for shooting out a 1/4lb of powder) lol then adjusted it and it gave me a perfect even coat. then I tried pearl white from prismatic and it wouldn't stick at all so had to go back to using the eastwood :/. what sucks is prismatic doesn't tell you which colors are the type of powder (tribo friendly)

howell989 good question. The bottles aren't strong enough for the fluidization. The jars on the Tribo are much more rigid.

This week, at the company I work for, a system consisting of 6 automatic corona guns was installed. Soon after, a tribe-type gun was installed to post-touch the finishes. But I noticed that painting with a tribe-type gun over a piece that was previously painted with corona is being very difficult, it seems that there is repulsion of the paint. This is normal? Can't I mix the two processes in the same part?

There are benefits to both. Eastwood will handle pretty much any powder you put through it. Tribo is fantastic if your using Tribostatic Powders. Not all powders will take that charge. There are several manufactures and resellers. Most of the companies that sell pound sizes are reselling the powder from companies that make the powder and sell in 40-100 lb packaging. Prismatic Powders does both.

Great review! I am considering a tribo gun but I am worried that 220volts are going straight to my hand - how is this made safe enough? Is it more dangerous than a eastwood electrostatic gun?

+pe.sho it may or may not stick. That all. Better to be grounded. It allows the powder to go on heavier and more coats if needed.

so with this gun it should or will eliminate hot coating the 2nd color.....i run into this alot doing 2 colors and i use an Eastwood duel voltage gun....i usually have spots that want allow 2nd color to stick so i end up hot coating it ..

Absolutely. As you can see in the video, not only am I doing it cold, I was able to blow off some of the over spray where I was blending to get a better line. It's pretty cool.

I'm looking at the chart and guns like Eastwood and Redline amzn.to/2IzsNpH are compatible with all of the powders I have already purchased. The Tribo works well with most of the epoxy, urethane and polyester powders I own. Sometimes some parts of the powder take the charge and other parts of the powder don't take a charge. So, if you are just starting out, you can make it a point to purchase powders and colors that are compatible. If you are buying direct from Liquid Powder Concepts all they stock are powders that work well with their guns. They have done the testing and they know which powders will work.

I just received a Tribo and I cant get it to work very good. I have the paint from Liquid Powder Concepts, it leaks powder it 3 spots on the gun and the paint comes out in bunches. It there a powder level in the cup that is recomended? It also dont stick to the cup.

Contact Michael at liquid powder concepts. I adjust the pressure by feel. I don't have a gauge. As for the leaking, it could be that you have too much pressure. I only fill the hopper/jar about 1/3 full. Not all powders are tribostatic.

Stephen Schartz mine did the same exact thing. It's leaking like crazy and it shoots out powder in two speeds nothing or full blast. I'm the process of getting it returned and getting my money back

This wasn't my experience at all. I'd call Michael at LPC and see if he can help you trouble shoot the issue. He uses them all day long everyday with a lot of success. He knows them inside and out. If there is an issue I'm sure he's seen it. I wonder if there is a change in them or if the parts are being assembled differently?

Have you even researched what a faraday effect is? For one thing. you WILL NOT get a faraday effect shooting a flat piece of metal to begin with.

Kyle Zack not according to liquidpowdercoatconcepts. They didn't use one. They just hooked the gun ground to the stand to keep from getting shocked.

I like it better for several reasons, the most important is how well it covers. I just did a wrinkle coat that always looked a little funky in the past. It really needs to have good thick coverage. I had no issues with the Tribo. It was a gift for my brother and he was blown away.
