The dancers/warriors are around 80 to 100 high school students and the drummers and instruments are around the same numbers. So just imagine how loud it can be. There are different contests leading up to the main event and one is the battle of the drums.

And by the way the storyline of the Dinagyang festival usually revolves around the history of Panay Island where Iloilo City is in. From the time of the aborigines, then when the Malays came and bought the lowlands from them, and when the Spaniards came and introduced Christianity.

Iloilo is a place in the philippine where you could find the most happiest people on earth not only at times of victory or success but even in times of troubles, sorrow or problem. We used the hiligaynon dialect and we call the people from iloilo as ilonggo. They used to say "sadya" in all aspect which literally means happy, like for example sadya guid ni karon ang nilaktanay sa dinagyang which means they will get tired of walking in the streets because of dinagyang festival, sadya guid ni magrambulanay which means somebody will be fighting, etc.

I was born in Panay Island, the Festival in our Province celebrated every January we called “Ati-Atihan Fiesta” or the “ Santo Niño Fiesta “ it’s the celebrations of christianity of the child Jesus. Many years ago we just started of Float Parade competition, & group of people dancing on the streets with drums of music & we painted our skin black charcoal to commemorate our ancestors . Then to attract more tourists they created a colorful costumes group dancers . It’s beautiful & attractive, every year they become more & more creative! You got it ryt ovela, they got into a place ang they're building a village with warriors, farmers, and families.. The 2nd set earlier were holding their catch like deers, crops and banana fruits that means their primary source of food.. Its like telling a story of a nomadic TRIBE and how they settle in to a place at a time particularly how they worship STO NINO, a small boy in resemblance to Jesus christ when he was a kid..
