It is with a heavy heart that Tangiers announces the passing of its founder and president, Eric Hofmann (1971 - 2021). Eric passed away early this morning after being diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism. Eric's passion for hookah led to new industry innovations such as the Phunnel Bowl, Noir (Darkleaf) Tobacco, the Dense Pack, and usage of oyster forks.
We want to reassure our hookah family and friends that operations at Tangiers will continue as normal, and that Tess Castillo, our Vice President, and first employee ever hired by Eric, will become its new President. Tess' institutional knowledge and strong leadership skills will ensure that Eric's legacy of producing innovative hookah products continues."

“This video was probably the most difficult I’ve ever had to make. Not only because it was very personal to me, but - even though the foundations are similar - every aspect of the Eric Hofmann method is essentially the polar opposite to how I pack, heat manage, poke holes, tools I use, and how I go about and teach how to pack and prepare a bowl...
For example, I hadn’t used a oyster fork to pack a bowl in 14 years. I hadn’t touched silver tabs in 16 years since Exotica’s were released onto the market. I had to rely solely on memory and fundamental skill I’ve garnered over the last 2 decades.
I really hope you enjoy this video and remember Eric and the great advancements and innovations he’s brought to hookah, single-handedly and by his own rules. I think that’s what I loved most about Eric - his unwavering spirit and great intellect - which he used to transform hookah completely and utterly, from the ground up.

How much shisha do you end up using when you dense pack tangiers?

Just as it is with anything else, the amount used is determined by the volume of the median you put a given thing into. So it depends, strictly, on the capacity of the bowl you use *and* exactly how dense you pack it.
