I thinks it is an age or generation thing. I’m in my late 40’s and can relate to this guy much more than the flat bill, hipster hunters like The Hunting Public etc. Also being a Southerner has a lot to do with it.

@glennwhittington7783 yes it does. I live about 3 hours south of the do it yourself guys and I know how hard it is to hunt these woods. I'm also 45 myself. I do like the hunting public but Aron Daniel and ms sandy are the best on youtub for learning and entertainment. I have no doubt I have hunted some same woods as these guys cause I take alot of time off in turkey season and hunt all over the state. It would be awesome to bump into them one morning

One of the best memories for me is me my dad and my son hunting together last season. At that time we did not know that he could have dead with a heart attack. After season was over he started feeling bad and he had a total of 8 blockages they treated all but four he had to have open heart surgery. We all three got to harvest a deer together. Thank you for sharing enjoying your content.

We are the same age. I have my dad’s Winchester 32 Special in my safe with a fresh coat of oil. I remember when I was young when he’d come back from hunting and leaned it against the wall with the action open. Good memories. Keep making videos. I like your commentary.

I lost my dad 2 years ago and I miss him a lot. We deer hunted together every year for over 25 years. I inherited all his hunting equipment including his guns. I actually killed 3 deer with his favorite rifle ( Ruger M77 bolt action 25-06) this year. I miss my hunting buddy!! 😢

Could not have enjoyed this more. I am JQA the fourth. My pawpaw (JQA II ) is still alive, but I asked for his 30-06 in his will. Well he gave it to me a few years ago and I wanted to kill a deer with it and ended up killing 3. Extremely memorable bc he had once killed 3 with the rifle and I heard that story a hundred times as a kid and I always wanted to be as good of a God fearing family man as well as hunter as he still is. I have also already made claims on my dad’s (JQA III) Belgium made browning 30-06 that has so many memories tied to it as well. I know this is getting lengthy but I have watched all your deer videos from the beginning of the channel in between my fall and spring semester (saving the turkey videos for turkey season) and you have inspired me to break out my camera gear and give it another try as it just frustrated me the first time around years ago. Love this show, you are truly a kingdom man, God bless you and your family!

I try to sit down and talk to my dad as often as possible. He's 72 years old. He didn't hunt but when I was a kid he took me hiking into the mountains behind our home in PA all the time. He introduced me to the adventure of the mountains and he got me my first shotgun at age 14 to hunt with. He introduced me to the world of travel and the adventure that went with that. His job included travel all over the world. He brought back coins for me from all the different countries he visited, rocks from a lot of different countries, an awesome hunting knife from Germany, swords from Japan.... Any time I kill a deer my first trip is to show my dad. He introduced me to so much that's made me what I am. I'll miss him terribly when he's gone.

I thank the Lord, I still have my Dad and still have the opportunity to hunt with him. He is now 76, and I can tell he is starting to slow down . I know someday coming, he might not feel like hunting or not be able to go. So I'm gonna enjoy every moment I can with him. You brought back memories when you left your gun in the tree. I left my rifle on the ground under the tree. Eventually, I realized it about halfway on my way out. Shift workers blues...I came back the next morning and killed Big Ole wide 5 point about 18 inches wide. Good luck on the rest of your season, and God Bless.

My father passed away when I was 50. I'm now 53 and hunt like you do but on private properties. I remember my father never really hunting. But he had me and 3 other kids to take care of. My parents both run a family business of ceramic tile installer. We travel from Mississippi to Tennessee, Florida all of working , but Georgia is home and where we as a family grow up. We worked 3 acres of land as a family for a garden in spring and summer as well as working with momma and daddy. As far as hunting the main thing is he always made sure by friends or uncles is hunting clubs . I [ the only hunter in the family] always had a place to hunt every season. As a family sport in the summer time [ mostly at night] we [ me , daddy and mom would crappie fish ( lake oconee). I still have my father's old 12 gauge and a old single shot 22 magnum. Good video and good hunt. Good luck and stay safe. We at our age are getting to old to hunt for them trees any more. I now mostly hunt for a ground blind. I became a mechanic, welder, trailer hitch tech. And own my own trailer hitch and repair shop. Tile work is very hard on the old back muscles.

Great show. My dad passed in 2020. Left a model 94 Winchester 30:30. My daughter shot a buck with that gun at 135 yards with handloads that I worked up using Hornady FTX bullets and Winchester 748 powder. I was sitting beside her when she did it. Grandpa was smiling for sure,

Thank you Jeremy for bringing back memories. I watch all your videos. My dad who passed in 2002 hocked his favorite rifle to buy me and my brother single shot shotguns for Christmas. I found the receipts for the transaction after I received his gun cabinet after he died. I am 67 now and still remember getting that first shotgun back when I was 11 or 12. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Wow great story, thanks for sharing. Good advice. Back in 1969 I was hunting with my best friend and we ran up the Boeuf River about 45 minutes. I got in a big oak flat. There was 3” of water on the ground. I climbed an oak and sat on a 6” limb and got to rocking on a 2” inch limb behind my back. The limb snapped and I fell about 6 ‘ flat on my back in that cold water. My insulated jump suit sucked up bunch of water. I was soaked and cold 30 degrees, then came that boat ride in that aluminum flat. My teeth were chattering louder than the motor. Got back to the farm house and took two hot baths and sat in front of the heater an hour. I will never forget that cold boat ride. God bless you and keep you brother.

Jeremy, your podcasts are always life lessons and I hope everyone watching and listening learns from you, Daniel and Sandy. My dad never hunted but when I turned 14, he bought me a Winchester 94 thirty thirty. I hunted until I no longer could. It's been 2 years since I've been able to tie my shoes but I was able to hunt 60 years until my back and hips no longer work for me. My memories are priceless to me but that's all I have. I'm sure your grand kids and great grand kids will cherish the videos you are taking now. Thank you for taking the time to do for everyone to enjoy. 🙏

I Killed my first deer in 1970 with him beside me. 2010 was the last time we hunted together in Illinois. Dad still going strong but not hunting anymore. He will turn 81 in January. Dad taught me a lot great things in my life. 1 how to work. 2 taught me about Jesus. 3 to deer hunt. Could not ask for a better dad.

I watch all of DIYH videos and this one has to be one of my favorites. My Dad doesn't hunt anymore but he always took the time to take me hunting when I was a kid. If I wasn't hunting with my Dad I had two uncles and grandpa I hunted with. One of my uncles and grandpa have passed but I have alot of fond memories hunting and fishing with them. I have one of my uncles old rifles and I have been wanting to take a deer with it. This video has given me the motivation to get it done. At 52 yrs old I think about some of the same things as you, about we never know when its the last time we get to go to the woods and get in that treestand. I have twin grandbabies that are 2 yrs old, I hope to get to make alot of memories with them. Thanks for the videos.

When my dad was young he saw a guy he knew get part of his finger blown off by a firework that didnt go off at first. When I was 23 I saw a big family set off thousands of dollars worth of fireworks and they caught the pile on fire and quite a few people were in critical condition and it looked like bombs went off. So he nor I never had any desire to set them off. My wife and I did enjoy a really cool show when we were at Lake Havasu randomly traveling through. Just the fireworks part of the show really brought back memories of dad saying dont mess with fireworks and even many years later me enjoying the show from a mile away lol. My dad had several shotguns we hunted with that are mine now but the one with the most meaning was a over and under 16 gauge my great grandpa brought back from WW2. I need to get that gun out and take my son squirrel hunting where dad and I went 40 years ago. Thanks for the flood of memories. Your the man!

Yesir I have a gun my dad bought from his uncle when he started going down in health . My dad was not a big hunter either , but he managed to find time here and there to take me hunting because I drove him up the wall until he did lol. I don't kill a deer every year with it . Mainly because it's older and it's a wooden stock . So I don't like to take it but on certain days when it's clear weather . I was 48 when my dad passed away . Him and my daughter were my favorites and they both are gone now . Lost my daughter in 2010 and lost my dad in 2020 . I wish I could be half the man my dad was . They don't make em like that anymore . Worked 7 days a week 2nd shift just about his whole life . He didn't get me everything I wanted , but he made sure I had everything I needed . Old school . Love the show buddy .

Being the only daughter out of 3 who hunts he gave me his 308 Winchester rifle. I've killed a few deer with it and always thought of my dad. I made a comment last year when you did this style video about my father and his cancer battle and not being sure if he could hunt, and he took a nice 8 pointer and 9 pointer. Well this year his battle has gotten worse but thank the great Lord he took a nice 10 point back in early November. His cancer has moved to his brain and the last last several weeks have been different with him. But watching you and last year's video and now this one I know it's gonna be ok. He's 72 and ain't giving up yet but I know he will never be able to hunt again. But last year was the first year we both killed a big buck in the same year. This year November 10 we both killed a big buck on the same day. Thanks for the encouragement Jeremy. I know what's coming and I know I can't do anything about it but to continue to pray but you give me that confidence to keep going unfortunately after that day comes.

He passed away in 2011 and I have killed a deer with that gun every year since he has been gone. I married a girl who already had an 8 year old son prior. In 2021 I took him hunting for his 1st time, and he has killed a deer with that gun every year since. He never got to meet my Dad, but I know some day he'll understand the tradition that we have started, and hopefully his little boy will kill one with it, and pass it on down the line. My grandpa hunted with a 30-30 most of his life. He got to where he couldnt hunt so me and my brother inherited it. I got it on sight and hunted basically a whole season with it. Never killed a deer but my uncle that grew up watching his dad hunt with it having one himself and my other uncle sold it he talked about getting another one so i gave him my grandfather’s gun. 2 weeks later he killed the biggest buck of his life with it. I wasnt there to witness it but my dad was hunting about 300 yards away said he could hear him screaming in joy. Went over and they found the buck together. It was a great thing to hear as his wife had also just passed away the year before. I love this channel and look forward to every video to come.

Reminds me of my uncle Troy, he taught me and my dad how to hunt, I remember at a young age of 5 he took me on my first deer hunt back home in those East Tennessee mountains at a place we called the old camp, I was always to scared to shoot his and my dads 742 wood masters in a 30-06 so I shot a muzzleloader, but I missed a deee that morning, but we hunted together all the way up to about 4 years before he passed away. I watched him battle cancer and was by his side the entire way through it all, I ended up getting his 30-06 once he passed away, every time I pick that gun up it brings back all of the memories I have with him! Thanks for the touching video!

Awesome way to keep loved ones memories alive, I have an old Marlin 30.30 lever action with a tasco scope that was left to me from my Grand Pa, I said I’d never shoot it. But after watching this I believe I’m gonna do the same thing. Use it in memory of my Grand Dad. Love the videos.

Man….this was my favorite KZbin video of 2023!! That’s saying a lot. I watch about 5-7 a night in preparation and dreaming of doing what you’re doing. I have my dad’s old rifle and I’ve tried several times to do this and haven’t been successful yet. I’m 46 and I’m also trying to get retired by 54. I’ve built an “overland” rig so I can travel and I’ve already started doing that every chance I get. I really enjoy y’all’s content but this video was very near to my own heart. I don’t live far from yall. In the great state of MS and my rut is starting now to in the next few days. Maybe this will be my year with my dad’s old rifle . Thank you for the content and inspiration. Maybe one day we cross paths doing the grind.

Bought an old 30-30 Winchester from my brother 10 years ago. Never killed a deer with it as I mostly bow hunt. Lost my brother in a work accident last April, took that old 30-30 out this year and had a nice 8 point walk in to 15 yards. Only thing I’ve ever killed with that old gun. Love the video Jeremy. Thanks

My father didn't hunt, but he had a win 94 in 30-30, it was a 1969 commemorative teddy Roosevelt. He did bring us kids into the woods to shoot 22's and that was enough to light the fire. Been hunting now for about 30yrs, shot my first deer with a bow, I just love getting after them and that's all thanks to my father. We must honor those who came before us because we are who we are because of them.

I moved to Texas when I was 16, didn't get to see my dad much until I was in my twenties. But as soon as I was financially stable enough to afford it I started going back to West Virginia every Thanksgiving for 2 weeks. One of my most memorable hunt was with my dad. He's been gone for almost 10 years now and unfortunately didn't get to see me advance through the ranks to make it to Chief. I was appointed as the Police Chief of our Agency while I was at my dad's funeral in West Virginia. I sure miss him and sometimes I realize some of the things I do and say came from him. I'm definitely starting to see my father in me. Thank you for taking the time and pushing through the pain to finish the mission. God Speed to you and I know your dad is proud of you 👍👍 Oh yeah, nice buck too!!!

This was an awesome episode. I remember the one from last year when you paid tribute by using his rifle. Keep his memory alive and keeping tradition is important. We are roughly the same age and I lost my Dad 18 years ago. He died a week before his 62nd birthday. He was only retired for one year when he passed. I made it my mission to retire as young as I could and enjoy life, and I did just that at 49 years old. No more work getting in the way of hunting season. My wife retired a few years after me, and now we travel and spoil the grandkids. She knows Oct thru Nov is my time in the woods. Congrats on the upcoming grand-baby. And Miles is adorable. They definitely keep you feeling young.

I'm 37 now but 15 years ago, I could never stop and slow down to take the beauty in of the outdoors. I had a son 7 years ago, and now he's a spitting image of me. He goes hunting with me every so often. I just hope I will be a good mentor for my son.... give him something I never had. Hopefully, he will slow down one day and soak it all in and love the pursue of the hunt. I love watching your videos!!! My dad is going to be 78 on 1/1/24. We hunt a lot together; he grazed a deer across the back this morning, and I went to help him look for it. I am sure the deer is fine. I have been very blessed to have a job that I know very well and allows me to work remotely. So, I can pretty much hunt when I want. The last few years we have hunted a lot. Luckily, I have enough sense to appreciate that while it is happening. I see so many people looking back with regrets. I don’t think I will have to deal with that.

I'm 62 and my 84 year old Dad is still hunting with me. I took his old Savage Model 99 .300 out for a stroll last year, as he's using a newer bolt action.
