This American has always admired the Finns spirit in fighting the Soviet army which greatly outnumbered them. Jean Sibelius is also my favorite classical composer. I am looking forward to visiting your beautiful country next year.

@Recker03 Most of the downvotes are from Russians ( plus a few from homegrown open borders leftist anarchist fiIth). Eighty one years have passed since they attacked us in 1939, yet very little has changed in their mentality. In their souls they are just as imperialistic and hateful towards us as then. Putin is a very unpredictable leader. He has attacked three sovereign countries, annexed territory from them, and what's more, once again changed the constitution, this time so he can sit in Kremlin for life. We would be well advised to join NATO together with Sweden, because there will again be a war with Russia, and this time they will trample us under their feet, unless there is a deterrent backing us up, like the collective might of 30 North American and European countries.

Under Christmas we Finns tend to visit the graves those dear to us. Part of this tradition is setting honor guards on the war hero's graves. Every city, town and village has an armed detachment on attention on the war hero's graves, reminding us that our freedom was due to sacrifice by these men and women. Silently saluting these war heros is part of our way of celebrating Christmas.

lyrics in english : Finland, behold, your day has now come dawning; Banished is night, its menace gone with light, Larks' song again in morning-brightness ringing, Filling the air to heaven's great height, And morning's glow, night's darkness overcoming; Your day is come, o my native land.
@ThaleiaXIV11 жыл бұрын
Translation: Look, Finland, it is you're day. Menace of night is deported away. And the morning lark sings in the glory Like the sky sings itself. The shine of morning beats the night. It is you're day, oh, native land. Rise up, Finland, lift high you're garlanded head of great memories. oh, rise up, Finland, you showed for the world that you expeled slavery. And that you didn't give up for depression. You're morning begins, oh native land.

Oh Finland look! The day at last is dawning! Your night of danger now is driv’n away. The morning skylark in the sunlight soaring Seems Heaven’s song come to greet this day. As night time powers are banished by the morning A new day dawns in our native land! Oh Finland rise and lift your head to glory And proudly wear your mem’ries shining crown. Oh Finland rise and tell to all the story Of how the yoke of slav’ry was thrown. And since you would not bend beneath oppression This new day dawns for our native land!

@HereIsRussia I just read about the Treaty of Tartu. You are right, except it wasn't Mannerhiem leading attacks, it was independants not supported by Finnish government. Also it was agreed by Russia that Finland borders would be that of the "Grand Duchy of Finland" area. It went on to say the Soviets broke the treaty with their invasion of 30/11/1939. It also mentioned that East Karelians voted to be with Finland, but Soviets rejected the vote. It did confirm that east Karelia was Rus.

Remember though, that the ring around Leningrad was never fully closed because the Finns ( Mannerheims decision) chose to leave a breathing hole. Nor did the Finns cut the Murmansk railroad ( which they could have done ), although long range patrols disturbed the traffic there and on the Arkangelsk railroad. Again Mannerheim stopped the advance.
