Fun Fact The Space Wolves are one of the few loyalist space marine chapters that actually had practise in fighting other Astartes previous to the heresy. Making them dangerous on that area from the start of the conflict. Also Space Wolves have an extra buff on general warp resistance. Overall they had pretty decent cards going into the heresy. Though they faced probably the most sinister of all the Chaos Gods.

My absolute favorite chapter of the space Marines. Not simply because of the wolf motif but because they seem far more human than most of the other chapters for one thing they can actually be seen eating meat eating real food and drinking alcohol which ironically is the only kind that can get a space Marine drunk. But beyond all of that. They fight when they're angry sleep when they tire eat when they're hungry and they are forever loyal to each other and to the emperor.

The Space Wolves recruit their new initiates from the native humans of Fenris. Wolf Priests venture abroad from the Fang from time to time to walk amongst the inhabitants of the feral world, challenging the locals' champions to bouts of eating, drinking, or wrestling. Invariably, of course, the gene-enhanced Wolf Priest will emerge victorious, and with them they will take their prize: the best of the champion tribesmen to bring back to the Fang, where they undergo many grueling trials. Some, however, forego the match against the Wolf Priest if they have already proved their prowess in battle. The Wolf Priests keep a watchful eye on the battles and hunts of the Fenrisian tribesmen. Should someone display extreme heroism, prowess, or martial feats the Wolf Priest will descend to collect the warrior, and deliver him from death by giving him the chance to serve the chapter. Once they have passed all of their preliminary trials, they are administered the Test of Morkai, where the initiate is given the first strand of the Canis Helix gene, and thrown out into the wilds outside the Fang. If they overcome the deadly side effects of their chapter's geneseed, and make it back to the Fang alive, they are accepted into the ranks of the Space Wolves with open arms, and the remaining procedures are undergone to turn the recruit into a full fledged warrior of the Emperor.[8h]

that is what I like about these chapters they are more human then the others they protect the ones that don't have the strength to protect themselves, there is some artwork floating arround where a salamander is carrying a heavly wounded guardsmen to safety, they actually feel like they are doing their duty as space marines and that is to protect all of mankind not only the once that are important to their chapter

Many moons ago, I was sucked into Warhammer 40K 2nd Edition. The Blood Angels army book came out and I was intrigued. Before I painted too many of them, the Space Wolves army book came out...and I have never looked back. Started out with Ragnar Blackmanes company. Now I have Morkai's company.

Personal opinion what makes these guys so cool to me is not only are they fierce and scary both in art and on the table but Njal and the rune priests have a few "warp ice" type powers. I like lightning as much as the next guy but almost every single army in W40k has a "LIGHTNING BOLT" power or two and its nice to see Njal can just say "You can summon lightning? Hey me too but I can also freeze and shatter you into tiny little pieces." Really like that theme :) again personal opinion.... Helfrost weps are pretty awesome as well.

my Wolf Lord earned his keep. held off a swarm of guardsmen by himself for three turns, while still holding the relic. He was my only model on the board at the end, but I still won. Named him Tyr after that. Then he killed a terminator Chapter master, which had never been killed in any game it had been in, and died charging the allied Imperial Guard's commander, shrugging off Anti-Tank fire all the while.

The Thousand Sons were driven to their betrayal by the zealousness of the Emperor's Mad Dogs! @@magnusthered4973 So, and please look this up to corroborate what I'm about to say because it's going to sound insane, but the, "wolves," of Fenris and the inability of the Space Wolves to create First Born Marines from non-Fenrisian recruits is actually related. The settlers of Fenris were administered the Canis Helix to allow them to survive on Fenris. The, "wolves," of Fenris are humans mutated by the Canis Helix due to incompatibility with with its host. That's where, "Thunder Wolves," come from. It's also when the Curse of the Wulfen ran rampant in every attempted Vlka Fenryka successor chapter. The recruit wasn't already inoculated with an inherited strain of the Canis Helix. It's also why Vlka Fenryka lost to the Canis Helix become progressively more bestial before their inevitable death in melee combat. They are turning into Astartes Grade Thunder Wolves.
