I like how they used to make this like a continuing game with introducing the next family before the show wrapped. ABC should have kept it like this.
@justinmay34512 жыл бұрын
They only did it if just three questions were needed for a family to win the game. (Only 200 points were required to win.) If more than three questions were needed, they did not show the new family for the next day.

I think they just needed something to fill in the time if the game ran a few minutes short. Once 300 and 400 points were required to win, I'm sure there was never any time left over to introduce a new family. But, it is a nice touch at the end of these early episodes!

@@justinmay3451 Obviously, this was something they did away with within their first few weeks or months being on air, but it was actually pretty cool how they did it like this.
@a.b.s_productions2 жыл бұрын
@@justinmay3451 But the main reason they moved the show to 400 points I believe around 1984/85 was to cut a lot of Dawson’s talking, plus also the ratings were going down.

I actually enjoy the clip and pace of this show at this stage. It moved faster, there was no 1 minute periods of thinking allowed when it's supposed to be 3 seconds (some leeway is ok but it later became ridiculous and far too inconsistent which is unfair). Also it wasn't the Richard Dawson show yet...he's a great host but it became more and more about him and his stories. Anyway. Still the best Feud host, period.

This was the episode after "Tea Bag". Would have been the Feud's 21st episode.

Odd how they introduced a new family that way in the very early days of the show. Small wonder they upped the winning score from 200 to 300.

My guess for the following 2 Questions probably would have been 1 of the following 3. Zodiac Sign Question: 1: Libra 2: Taurus 3: Aquarius Texas City Question: 1: Dallas 2: Houston 3: San Antonio

Name a sign of the zodiac? Bad question because they'll all be about equally popular; everyone will mention their own sign, which are likely evenly distributed.

7:40 - This is what happens when the contestant has the pin/pen merger (i.e., pronounces and hears all "in" and "en" sounds as being identical), and the host doesn't.

Or illiterate.
@Paul71H3 жыл бұрын
@@dozaarchives2225 What does literacy have to do with this? The issue seems to be whether the contestant hears "pen" or "pin" -- unless you mean that Richard could have read the question wrong. I'm from the large part of the US where the pen/pin merger is common, and I didn't know if the question was asking about a kind of pen or a kind of pin, until I saw some of the answers.
@dozaarchives22253 жыл бұрын
@@Paul71H because the several answers given before he spoke are clearly pins. He said pig pen because he doesn't know the difference between pin and pen. He is clearly only partially literate. He probably thinks it's spelled "pig pin".
@Paul71H3 жыл бұрын
@@dozaarchives2225 OK, I understand what you're saying. At that point, two answers had been revealed, which both were types of pins, not pens, so maybe the contestant should have understood by that point. Certainly if anyone wasn't sure whether Richard said pen or pin, it became more clear as more answers were revealed. But if the survey was done orally (e.g., over the phone), then I would expect that some people might give "pig" as a response, even if the questioner said "pin." If I had heard someone read that question to me, I might have responded "pig" or "ink" (or "safety" or "straight"), because my ears aren't trained to notice a difference between "en" and "in" sounds, even when the person speaking pronounces them differently. So I'm not convinced that it was a bad response, though Richard did a good job of making it funny.
@bobbyadkins69832 жыл бұрын
@@Paul71H Exactly. Thank you. I come from a place that pronounces them the same way. I'm surprised that some who were surveyed didn't do the same.

These early shows went too fast. Dawson was in such a hurry, and the person who controlled the answers and strikes was even faster! He wouldn't even let Richard finish asking if the answer was up on the board before he revealed it or made the strike sound. Annoying
