TRICK TO GETTING YOUR NEW BUDGIE OUT OF THE CAGE!!!

I’m so excited for this day to come… I was so happy and felt like we had a break through with trust yesterday and today (today is his 3rd day home) because he is making happy sounds, bobbing his head and looking at me when I sing to him lol. He isn’t afraid when I enter his cage to clean or replace his water. I’d love to try the perch thing, just worried I will break the trust I’ve earned so far.

That was my mistake when I bought my first budgie. I was given advice to leave them alone for the first two weeks. So I did nothing with her those two weeks except talk to her. It’s been 6 months and she is still terrified of me! I bought another budgie and she is more brave and open and actually perches on my finger but the other one is now teaching her to be afraid of me :(

I thought she would learn by watching the other one, no she’s still terrified. My first one, her wings have now grown back which I don’t mind but I was told to clip her wings again and to try taming again with clipped wings. I don’t want to lose her trust by clipping her wings 😕

I’m currently in your exact situation and I’m having a hard time because the second one distracts the first one whenever I try to get it out the cage. I can feed the first one millet and sometimes get it to perch on my finger but then the other starts chirping and it’ll jump off

Im in this exact situation, I left my first bird in the cage for about the same amount of time and he is terrified. I got him a companion and this one I left them for 1 day and now they perch on my finger and come out. Do you have any updates??

My budgie Luna is stubborn but I am starting to learn what she's trying to tell me through her body language and different sounds. She'll eat millet while I am holding it but she's still scared of my hand and being on my hand. She got on my finger twice and I was so happy. I've had her for about a week and 2 days. I think she's a little over 6 months old. I am trying my best to gain her trust and bond with her, but I went to fast and we both freaked out a couple times so now I am trying to go slow. I have her cage in my room and I talk to her multiple times a day. Even tho I've only had her for such a short time I am pretty sure she's trying to talk/mimic things I've said. Last night I swear I heard her say pretty bird. I love her so much and I am really trying my best to gain her trust so she can fly around outside of her cage. Baby steps. The hardest thing for me is knowing what the next step is and how to do it correctly without stressing her out.

Hey-your technique of using the Dow of taking my bird out! I just want to thank you. My bird is flighted. She flew out of her cage. She is NOT TAMED AT ALL. I did NOT WANT to traumatize her or lose her trust more by catching her with a glove on my hand so I used the Dow to have her step on and put her back in-IT WORKED!!! She’s comfortable with it

i can relate! my male budgie (jack) was cool with stepping on my finger and letting me pet him. i put him in with my female and now he doesn't like me touching him. I have them in the same room where i work all day and talk to them frequently. i do not chase them around or stress them out.

It’s harder to tame two budgies because they will always interact with each other. But if you want to tame two budgies, work with the budgie that interacts the most with you and the other will learn by observation.

Its been a month and my budgie still wont come out of his cage by himself. I cam only get him out through the top. If i try to get him out through the front he will just fly back to his cage and once hes out he quickly flys back inside

It depends if you have a new budgie they would probably just sit in the cage and not come out. But, if they do come out they won't go crazy as they are quite calm creatures

I let mine out for the first time and yes, they did fly around wildly for a couple of minutes and banged into stuff a little bit until they learned their way around the room ..now they just fly around and perch on things. I was nervous at first but it’s getting easier. Just have to relax and not scare them.

The best advice you can give with these birds is to interact with them as much as possible. Yes they will be afraid of you the first day. Give them just 1 single day to relax from the petstore. After that just start trying to give them treats, show them your hand. Try to get them to perch. If they fly out then let them walk around. You'll get them to perch up very quickly. After doing this for 2-3 days they are used to the fact that you aren't going to harm them. At that point the real training begins and the trust develops. Several birds I started with used to behave this way and now they are all free to fly in my house and come to me on command. The more you're afraid and insecure, they will feel that energy!

I have 2 fully flighted budgies. They both are tamed and will step up when I put my finger out. When I take them out of the cage on my hand they fly away and hit the walls and freeze on the top of the window. I leave them alone for while but they do nothing. I offer them millet but they don't accept it outside. What can I do without clipping their wings?

You should give them some time to get used to the perch. Don't give up! And don't force him/her. Do it everyday and they will eventually get used to it and get on it.

How I take my budgie out is I have 2 budgies one is fine with being out and doesn’t get scared and other goes crazy and scared So my cage can open up on the top so I will just open that and sit down or do something to make him less scared and i let him make his way up and he will and I am thinking eventually I can try to get him on a perch or my finger I hope he will be fine with that!

I have one question. My house is kinda open, there are many places for it to escape. The doors have gaps and stuff. In short, there is no way I can guarantee that my bird will not escape from the room. But I want then out of their cage to get exercise. Is there any way to solve the problem? I've had them for only 1 day now. I'll probably try to tame them but still escaping is one of the problems. I don't want them lose. It's a single pair.

You should try blocking the spaces with some clothes or blankets and secure stuff you don't want them to get. You should always supervise them and take care of them when they are outside their cage

I have this problem. I got 2 budgies in march 2021. They trust me a lot now they will come to me if I put my hand near them. They will eat out of my hand and one of them will fly to my hand If I Have millet ( This is the present they didn't do this in the past.). I've trained her already to come to me without millet and I reward her later. So the problem is Taking them out of the cage. After 2 months of getting them I decided to take one of them out. When bringing her out she jumped out to the ground and started calling for her friend. Her friend was very scared and was calling for her. I put the cage down and she jumped back into it. That was 5 months ago though. I know the problem is that they are attached to each other and want to be together. They will reject food outside of the cage if they are seperate. If they are together and outside of the cage they will eat. Before their wings were clipped but now they are fully grown and they can fly. They trust me way more now. They are afraid of everyone but me so i cant get anyone elses help. So I need advice on what to do now. I don't want them being in their cage forever. Any Help?
