Congrats on this milestone. Different methods work for different tameness of birds. My Mango goes back to his cage on command by himself which he has been doing for years. For Blueberry by hand and 99% he doesn’t object. For Rainbow, I bring his cage close to the other two cages since his cage’s position is about 6/7 feet away from the other two cages and bring him back on my finger with his favorite toy. Routine is the key. When it’s close to bedtime, just like for kids, give them time to settle down by turning off the music, radio, tv , dimming the lights, sending other humans in the household to other areas of the house or telling them to lower their voices and devices so I start the bedtime routine process with the birds and bedtime is never a problem here. If anything, they go back into the cages to relax for the night before time as they are tired from their daytime activities.

Hi Donna, wonderful videos. I live in Northwest Ohio and our winters are similar to yours .When I see what is obviously an escaped pet bird at my feeders, I'll set a cage outside with millet and if the bird goes into the cage, I will bring it into the house and begin finding the owners. So far, the outcome has been positive for two birds that would not have survived a winter here; a budgie and an african grey. They are both back with their owners. I love birds, especially my cockatiels who go to their cages when they want to sleep (usually on the outside of the cages with newspaper underneath) The doors have not been closed in twelve years, except for vet trips, they are never locked in a cage.

A small aquarium with male guppies and a dwarf gourami. Also there's my longtime companion, my blue point Himalayian cat. The later was actually owned by my good friend of Sheilands cattery but when he passed his cat was left to me. Anyway I do enjoy your videos and Facebook page. Hi. It would depend on where you keep your canary. If he is in a busy room with lights on or T.V etc then yes you can cover his cage so he can sleep. If he is a dark room with no activity or noise you can leave him uncovered.

Hi, thank you. I am glad you love my channel. I recommend the extra small or the mini pedi perch like this one amzn.to/2YQCBnz Remember to place it lower in the cage so your budgie will only use it periodically and not as a sleep perch as it can cause problems with the foot pads if your budgie uses it too much. Congratulations to you!! We love your bird videos. I was wondering if you could help me with some budgie questions? (I am a mom, the kids and I have 11 budgies, from South Africa.) We got a 18month old Albino female budgie from a breeder, 3 weeks ago, we named her Beauty. She was born with a disability, the one wing didn't form. My questions is, she pecks at this featherless winglet constantly and it bleeds and looks constantly wet. I see small blood droplets maybe every 3rd day, I am starting to think its self mutilation. The winglet does have muscle as when she stretches it, it does come out and straight by itself. She's not very friendly to the other budgies. When she hops along on the perches she sometimes fall off but is a very good climber on all the sides of the cage. Want to know if you have any advice on this matter, as all the other budgies we have are pretty textbook in behaviour, happy, healthy ect. (The breeder gave us this bird for free, said nothing just asked me & my daughter if we wanted this 18month old female that was born without a wing, as we were busy buying another budgie from him.) And does Albino budgies have normal lifespan and are able to lay eggs as we find different information about this on Google. Thank you very much for your time!!
@Loveofpets5 жыл бұрын
Hi, glad you enjoy my videos! Congratulations on your new budgie. It's best to take her to an avian vet to rule out disease such has PBFD or any other health issue. Albinos can have a normal lifespan unless they were inbred or don't have a nutritional diet, they can lay eggs just like other budgies. Please don't breed her since she has a deformation.

Congratulations on your membership subs, as I'm watching this it's at 106k! I have a question that you may have an opinion on....... I have a Barraband parakeet called Nozzy (I've described him before on your pages) and, after nearly 2 years, I'm wondering if I'm doing the right thing come his bedtime. He normally climbs into his cage at the same time each night and settles on his ''sleeping'' perch. Once I see that his head his tucked away I will put a bed sheet over his cage to keep the light off him. His cage is in an alcove adjoining the kitchen so its normally lit indirectly. When I do this he will often start to chirp quietly and I can't tell if the sheet is upsetting him or its just him settling down. Do you have any ideas please? I obviously don't want to cause him distress but I'm also worried about him losing sleep due to disturbances as my wife and I move about the house.
@Loveofpets Жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you 😊. It's hard to say what he is feeling for sure, however in my experience I think he is content and singing himself to sleep. If he waa unhappy he would possibly start climbing the bars, flapping his wings and scream.
@CMDR_Verm Жыл бұрын
@@Loveofpets Thanks for reassuring me. There is certainly no flapping or screaming 🙂

50K subscribed, congratulations!. But not surprising to me, you produce great videos. Please, please, please, keep producing the videos. I am mostly interested in your bird videos (I have 4 budgies) but also enjoy seeing all of your pets. I occasionally go back to the "breakfast" video; I really enjoy seeing all your pets getting their morning breakfast, they are all so happy. You provide many good tips about getting birds back into the cage. I have had no luck with this for the almost 1 year since I got my birds. They freak out even when I go near them; they calm down when I put food in the cage. I would resort to using a large hoop fishing net (similar to what people use to catch butterflies) but after a few times came to realize the potential risk for injury to the bird - head, neck, wing, etc., so I stopped letting them out. I think my patience in working it out is also a factor. Question?.... is there a best time of the day to let the birds out?; let's say I only want them out for about an hour. They can sense when it is morning; they start chirping even while the cage is still covered up. Should I try letting them out first thing in the morning, then clean the cage bottom, fill food bowls, provide clean fresh water, then in an hour I would hope they would be hungry enough to go back in the cage. I would appreciate your thoughts/comments on this. Give a "thank you" (from me) to Rio for being such a nice participant in this video. I have seen her in a number of your videos and it's always a pleasure to see her.
@Loveofpets6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes morning is best to let them out as that's when they are most active and hungry. Use the millet to lure them in or guide them in if you have a bird ladder or long Perch. Try traing them to step up on the long Perch or ladder and it will be easier to get them in the cage. Nets are terrifying for birds and dangerous, glad you stopped doing that. One hour out is good. Keep it a routine and they will learn it.

Help! I have read many things about keeping a boy and girl budgie together, and what I’ve read is that they need a nest box. Well I just caught my male budgie humping my female. They don’t have a nest box, and I also have other females in the cage (two others) Please someone help me! Do I put the male and female in the same cage separate from the other birds? Do I add a nest box to the cage? I am totally fine with them having babies. How do I know when she is going to lay eggs? If she is, how soon should I add a nest box, or how soon should I separate the pair from the other birds?
@Loveofpets5 жыл бұрын
Hi! The pair should be separated and given a nest box right away as long as they are old enough and healthy. Usually the female will lay an egg soon. Research breeding budgies and what to feed them etc. You will need some bedding on the bottom of the nest box so the babies won't get splay legs. There is so much to learn in breeding budgies. Also research raising baby budgies as the parents may not feed the babies especially if it's their first time. Good luck

My bird was fine with its cage until today when I changed a couple things around to fit a new toy in as she gets pretty bored. She’s absolutely terrified of her new perch, will not go anywhere near the cage when it’s in there and is for the most part not happy in the cage and will stress so much holding onto the bars until I let her out. She had ages of outside time, but I need to go from time to time. Any tips on familiarising her with the perch and get her to be more calm in the cage?

Congrats on all those subscribers! That's sooo awesome!! I would love to see a video on taming a parakeet. My lil guy who I have for about a month now is about 4 months old, maybe 5, and he's sooo afraid of me putting my hand in to let him out. Since I really don't have a safe place like your bird room to let him out, I want to tame him so he'll stick with me like my cockatiel does. That way he gets to enjoy life outside his cage and I would eventually love for him to be able to hang out with my 'tiel. He is getting used to my voice when I close him up at night & whenever I pop over to talk to him, but hands terrify him & cleaning him out always makes me feel bad as I hate scaring him. Thanks!

Hi, if you want babies, then you need a nest box. Please watch some KZbin videos on breeding Cockatiels as there is a lot involved in breeding and not just providing a nest box. You have to know what to feed the parents and choosing substrate for the box and raising babies if the parents won't feed the babies etc.

Your welcome. You can candle the egg to see if it's fertile. If not the next egg may be fertile. Good luck. Have hand raising formula on hand just in case you have to hand feed the babies. Make sure to use bedding in the nest box. You can get bedding in the small animal section in the pet store. Get the softest bedding. Never use cedar bedding or any bedding with a scent as it's toxic to birds. I like the carefresh brand.

mine know when I say bedtime, they go in, but sometimes they don't so I turn off the lights and put a treat in the cage, usu. an almond in the shell.

Luckily my birb (she is a Kakariki) puts herself to sleep on a regular schedule... although she doesn't sleep in her cage... she sleeps on the shoulder of my shirts that hang beside the head of my bed... so I can hear her little sleepy noises and smol squeaks when she wants me to wake up! ;D

I am soon getting a Senegal parrot, and many websites I have seen all have different cage size recommendations- what do you say is an ideal cage size? I want to be sure 👌
@Loveofpets6 жыл бұрын
Hi, the bigger the better is always best but if they are out all day you can get a smaller one. My Senegal's cage is 25" wide by 25" deep, not sure how high. Senegal's don't move around much and are more sedate than other birds so minimum is 25" by 25"

@@Loveofpets awesome! Thank you. I have a linnie and as you know they are poop machines. Mine holds it I swear until I let him out, and look out furniture and clothing.

Lol, linnies poop is so big. You can start in the morning and say poop while you hold him over the area you want him to go and then praise and give a treat.

So sorry. Give her time to grieve and take the nest box away to let her rest. Let her out of the cage to fly and give some new toys to keep her occupied.

I have 14 parrots, 5 guinea pigs, 2 dogs, 2 hamsters, and 2 rabbits. Most of my birds are cage free. Wish they were as tame as yours are but unfortunately most of mine came from homes that didn't interact with them positively.

I feel spoiled, I have never had this issue with my parrots lol 100% agree on routine. My birds know when it is 8pm, which = bedtime. Parrot on a proper diet of pellets and veggies makes treat value explode. Good way to train a parrot. Mine will do just about anything for a single millet seed now lol
