I was born and raised in Northwest Georgia, and my mother is from Tennessee and my father is from Mississippi. Where my mother is from they put sugar on their grits, rice, oatmeal and cream of wheat. Where my father is from they put salt and pepper on the grits and rice. I have the best of both worlds.
