Thank you so much for this tutorial. I didn't know you could convert the speaker wires to an RCA plug. Short & right to the point! Also appreciate info on ohms!

It makes a difference which wire is used when you are splicing the speaker wires into the RCA plug. Speakers have phasing and you need to make sure that the negative or positive in each of your splices is identical.

I'm a bit confused, I thought you need to break up the two cables into two plugs, since there are one connector for each, the positive and the negative end. You can just connect both to a single male plug, and leave one of the two connectors empty?
@Hans571169 ай бұрын
Im confused aswell, did you find answer?
@Jairoalvarz9 ай бұрын
he shows it near the start. each rca cable runs two wires! The two wires that go into a speaker are just voltage and ground. You use 2 rca cables (red and white) because you have left and right
@osopena39797 ай бұрын
@@Jairoalvarzright so in terms of using subs or other speakers in pairs. Wouldn't we use both RCA's instead of wiring them down to a single plug?
@djlotusx4 ай бұрын
@osopena3979 in theory, you would have to make 2 sets of these cables to make a left and right channel. Positive and negative are on each cable so each channel needs it's own RCA.
@fishhuntadventure2 ай бұрын
@@osopena3979wiring to a single plug at best reduces the audio to monaural and at worst fries some mosfets or whatever if the amplifier isn’t designed to bridge

RCA Connectors are not meant to carry the amplified signal that your speakers require. Not only that, but RCA output terminals don't send the amplified signal anyway. They send a line level signal (non-amplified). What you would need is a discrete amplifier in between your RCA terminals on your playback device & the speakers. What's scary is that this video has a good ratio of likes to dislikes. It's making me wonder if we can't trust that system any longer.

Double check your RCA's. Some amps have double inputs while others have input and output. Never mix your input with output.

In fact, a lot of speakers used for the inexpensive all-in-one stereos from the 1970s use RCA inputs for the speakers so if you need new speakers for one of those systems or to replace the speaker wire for those speakers, this is how to hook them up.

Stupid question: does this also work the other way around? Would it ibe possible to connect a denon AVR front speaker output via speaker cable directly into an stereo amp (analog input RCA)? Would the volume level be higher if taken directly from the amplified speaker cable signal or would it be converted down to similar effect as when using pre-out RCA? Could this damage either amps or would this just fail...?
@fishhuntadventure2 ай бұрын
Some amplifiers can take an input that is ‘high level’ some cannot. Most have low-level rca inputs

Unfortunately, what you've shown here does not split the right and left channels, which means you're only going to get one side of the audio, depending on whether you plug into the red or the white.

Thank you! this is the info i was looking for. It does matter. and i was guessing that the little red wire is the positive. but i didn't want to guess at it... If I'm understanding you correctly, you are saying that the little wire covered in the red plastic is the positive. and the loose wires around it, with no cover, are the negative.

hi! do you know what to do when there’s absolutely no information on what Ω my tv is? my speaker is a 6 Ω edit: i found the manual for the TV (which is very old, from 2008), but i’m not sure what to look for because the manual doesn’t mention ohm in the audio part, it says “output power 10 W + 10 W”
@bytarik6 ай бұрын
I don't think your TV output is enough to power speakers without an amp. Best to do is just buy a small amp(something like a class t amp) and connect the tv to amp. Then you can connect your speakers to the amp.

As I have mentioned in my replies, there are speakers that came with all-in-one systems from the 70s that use RCA plugs as the connector for the speakers. If you have to replace the speakers in these systems, converting the replacement wire to RCA with this adapter is the way to go.
