Nice video. One way to get the E string out after the cleat has dried is to leave the string long and tie the knot mid string. That way you have extra string in the body of the guitar to just pull it through. Hopefully explaining in a way that makes sense.

I have repaired cracks with a hand made guitar tuner clamp like that. Went through the same trouble getting the string out and learned to tie the knot halfway up the string so there's a long tail to pull it out.

Great idea. Could you make use of the ball end of the string and avoid tying the knot? Tie kite string to the ball so you can pull out the ball after it’s not needed?

No need to tie another string: just tie the knot(s) so as to leave a long tail.
