Thank you so much for your informative demonstration. It is quite difficult to find “pure” dark black paints and good information about them. The Eggshell comparison is extremely helpful; it almost appears darker in the spots that aren’t directly reflecting light.

Very informative, thank you. I'm going to be repainting my work area where I work on imperfections in automotive paint. Black walls with low light reflection help me spot scratches and swirls easier so this was very helpful seeing how this color shows up on camera with the side by side comparison of flat vs eggshell. thanks again

I appreciate you posting the LRV on the matte value of this paint because I’m thinking about using it in a dedicated home theater with 185” projection screen. The other great thing about the video is I got the idea to paint the walls matte and I can paint the trim in eggshell. It’s hopefully enough of a pop to show contrast, but keep the room monochromatic.

Thank you so much for all of this information on this beautiful bold color Tricorn Black. I am in the process of deciding which rooms/walls to paint Pure White and which to paint Tricorn Black and this was really helpful to see. We have four kids and two large dogs so we need to wipe walls/trim quite a bit, which I have heard that Satin or Eggshell is better for the cleaning factor, but I have to say I love the way the flat color looks when in comparison. Does the flat actual hide trouble spots on the wall better than a Satin or Eggshell would? thanks again!

Hi Jessica, Flat does hid imperfections better than satin and eggshell, however, it does get marked up easily. If you like the look of the flat, but want some washability, you may consider a matte finish. Hi Chuck, Tricorn Black is one of the closets colors to true black with a LVR of 2.45. The black in the tint used to make darker colors is what absorbs the heat. It is possible to make a "black" paint without using black in the tint, but you may not be able to get a specific paint color like Tricorn black. We recommend going to your local paint store and asking them what's the darkest they can go without using black in the tint. Let them know the surface you will be painting and that you are looking for a paint that won't absorb the heat.

I am having so much trouble with this paint right now and I have no idea where to go. I have tricorn in my theater room that was put on about a month ago. 2 coats but when someone touches it the walls leave a mark like chalk? I had a contractor paint it and he has know Idea .Any help would be great..I love the color but we just can not solve the mistery lol

Hi Mary, ultimately, whatever color you think looks good is a good color. Tricorn Black is a popular black color. You can always put a sample of both colors (or more in varying shades) on the wall you will be painting and look at them in different lightings to see which pairing you like best.

We always tell our clients that sheen should be a personal choice. It does change the look depending on side of the spectrum you choose, but we know not all sheens are the same. On walls we almost always go with a eggshell for some added protection without making the walls looks constantly wet if a high gloss was to be used. However, the more gloss there is, the easier cleaning it will have due to the added protection.

This color was recommended to us as paint for our exterior windows and a very wide eaves of our home. We are definitely going to try it as the rendition looked beautiful. I’m not sure which sheen to use, and I wonder what you think of this for that application.
