On my brick fireplace (which was already painted when we moved in) I tested 7 SW colors-I thought I decided on Black Magic, but it was too dark. However, Iron Ore showed up too “gray” for me-but I blended up my own concoction of the two and it’s the PERFECT rich charcoal. To the eye it shows up as black, but it’s a really gentle dark color. Don’t be afraid of mixing things up for a small project and just save a little to match if you need another bucket! For reference, wall color is SW Wordly Gray, trim and surrounding bookcase is SE marshmallow

Tricorn Black and Iron Ore are where it's at!! I'll be painting the exterior of my home in Iron Ore and using Tricorn Black on the trim. I'll be using wood as accents and that's it!

I choose a warm leaning color pallet for my personal space, but I really love all colors. And with that being said...I think you hit this one out of the park, James. As always, job well done. You may (or may not) remember I mentioned a year ago that I was painting an interior wall in my new home black as I had been on a black leaning kick for a couple of years already then. Most everyone thought I was bonkers, so it is so fun seeing that it is becoming a thing. 😊

Love black!!!!!! Classic.... and all the various versions of it. I have an accent wall in my entrance way and everyone thought I was crazy as it does not get a lot of natural light.....well it looks perfect

Your video hits close to home: My bedroom is BenMo Wrought Iron, almost SW Iron Ore. I live twenty minutes from the Washington Monument, AAAAAND, I have a grey and white kitty! #definitelycousins

I painted my office Tricorn Black and I love it. It gets a lot of light all day and the color is perfect. I also decided to paint our bathroom ceiling Tricorn Black. Wow! It looks like the ceiling isn't even there and just goes on and on. I have shown it to two neighbors and they have done the same thing!! Thanks for the great videos.

That’s interesting, wish I could see how that looks in person. When I was a kid I had these plastic glow in the dark star stickers on my ceiling, they charged with light then at bedtime it looked like you were looking up at the sky at night, super cool. Bet they would look awesome on a black ceiling.

Cool. I am thinking of doing the same but worried the black walls will look dusty in a room that gets lots of natural light and always seem to need dusting. What has your experience been? Did you do matte?

@@modusbee9092 Yes. We used a flat paint and I honestly don't notice any dust. The room does get a lot of light, but it has been almost a year and it looks fine. I guess at some point I will have to take a duster to the walls, but not yet. I think you will like it.

@@modusbee9092 I painted a large fireplace wall Greenblack (flat matte) by Sherwin Williams. It doesn’t look dusty. Also makes all the artwork stand out.

I've always wondered if really dark exterior colors like in a place, example Texas would intensify the heat. If you're on a hot place, let ne know...but if I was near snow. Oh wow, that would be gorgeous!!!

@@Donna-vh5ym we are in Kansas so we get both. But there is a lot of brick on the home as well and the iron ore brings out the bricks that are a darker color. So it turned out perfectly.

Went with SW Black Fox , Keystone Grey and extra white on my exterior . Love the contrast . Black Fox is a warmer black than Iron Ore .

My kitchen cabinets, living room built-ins and stair risers were all painted SW Iron Ore by the builder in our 2004 craftsman style house. I still love it! My wall color is BM Titanium.

I think you would really like BM Gray 2121-10. To be it is the perfect gray I have it on my fireplace wal and my lower kitchen cabinets and it’s fabulous!

Be aware from a practical standpoint that sheen makes a huge difference in durability with darker colors . They will "chalk" when scuffed meaning it leaves a permanent white mark . You can test this by dragging the back of your fingernails across flat paint . And no matter what you are told or see in ads, there is no such thing as a washable flat paint. Yes, maybe the stain or dirt will come off, but you will polish the paint and leave a shiny spot . One of the great things about SW Color to Go samples is they are in all in a satin sheen which will give you an idea of wether you want to go with more or less sheen but satin is pretty much the bottom line for washability

What would you suggest of a dark grey color that has a higher light reflection grade. I have a young man’s room we want dark and moody , but it has low natural lighting, so I don’t want a cave effect. Lol is there a dark color with a higher light reflection rate?

How do you feel in regards to exterior of the home- using SW Ellie Gray, with Iron Ore trim? I have two columns in front of my doorway and it’s making me hesitate with the thought of them being the Iron Ore color… white would be safe instead of iron ore but we are wanting to completely change things up. I love black but the only thing holding me back is the fear that it will attract bugs or make they difficult to spot. If something comes in my home I want to immediately see it. I also steer clear of busy patterns for that reason. Anyone else think that makes sense, or am I just paranoid?

Not for me. On a visceral level that much black color looks dead and uninviting. I'd be reaching for the primer ASAP. In sum, not a nice place to visit and for sure would not want to live there.

To me it looks Iike prison gray or Battleship gray. It reminds me of the color of old Steelcase metal cabinets. Very industrial. I am looking at some old metal cabinets right now in my office. Yup. Same color. Vintage 1960's to 1970's office furniture. And pairing it with Peacock? Not for me... Yuck! Especially in a bathroom where you want soothing restful colors... 👍
