Trident Maple Thread Graft.mp4

Rubbish weather continues, so I have taken some time to work on some of my raw material. I thought this one may be interesting to some. Thread grafting is an easy way improve bonsai material and a useful skill to practise. While I was trimming the tree I also took some softwood cuttings. Enjoy!

Surprised that you can retain the entrance part as another branch. Wouldn’t the direction of sap flow be wrong?

I tried this last week on a privet I have growing in the ground. I experimented a little and used Vaseline as opposed to cut paste, mainly because I didn't have any. Any success stories you know of doing it this way? I guess in a couple of months I'll be able to answer my own question.

i dont have a greenhouse to keep the trident cuttings in is there any alternative? im in new jersey in the states

Just my opinion, but i would have placed that first branch you drilled about half an inch lower at the bottom of that bend, facing slightly down beyond horizontal.

Not meaning to be critical but drilling FROM the "exit point" is simpler as it will place the branch in the exact postion you want it.

BackSeatHump yes. The exit hole will also be cleaner.

I've heard you could use superglue in place of the cut paste. Do you know if that's true and if so, would you recommend it? Great video by the way.
