When gishing larger single baits ive gone over to using up&over rigs for a while now, with hooklength 5ft or so long. Started of using fixed snoods, but then went over to sliding version, seems to give better bite detection

Pulleys and up’n’over rigs fish differently but are both amazing to have ready to go. 2 of the most popular rig videos on the channel are the 2 where we discuss and modify up and overs. Amazing for rays.

Hi Mark ! As usually lovely video. I have 2 up and over rigs full trident :one with hair elastic silicon from my daughter really good as a stop knots power gum and one with adjustable crimps. I am happy with both of them ...good stuff. I used on high tide but no luck only tangled.. on low tide its a lot more better .. i hope will bring u lots of fishes this rig.. i had whiting... happy fishing and tight lines👍😉

Thank you for the kind words, I think this type of rig fishes best with a current so either a rising or falling tide. Slack at high water could lead to tangles. Worth dressing your rig as it hits the water and stretches out before it settles.

Hi Mark, looking forward to your next Vid as Ive never used a fixed up & over, fishing for Bass or Smooth Hounds. I`m realy intrested to see how you get on with the adjustable krimps. Great well explained Vid as always.🍻👍

I think we all have our favourite components and they tend to be a mix of manufacturers. I do like the Trident stuff but it gets mixed with other stuff that they don't yet make. I like an up & over with a pulley bead at the bottom but the aero doesn't really suit being at the bottom of a rig as it can't spin so the Tronix or Breakaway pulley bead is still my preference for that. I will keep watching Trident for any new products that come out.

Hi Mark, have you made a follow up to the trident videos? I'm a fan of theirs but have struggled with the roto clip with my "sausage fingers" and a big bait plus the pulley would always bring my line in twisted. I'm about to try their " kicker" to see if it's easier than the roto. Might make a good follow up vid?

Tried the hangover clip last night for the first time in anger, which was not a great success partly due to the adverse weather but also the two inexperienced fishing companions I had also leant the rigs to, even I who fully understood the workings and had made the rigs myself had trouble. At first sight the clip looks great very neat and discreet, unfortunatly I consider it to be too small with not enough area to grip the line. I will be forced to go back to using cut down Relay Clips without the leg that recieves the rubber tube using an SRT spring, bead and silicone tube adjustable stop

@@seafishinggirl the combination of Fluro and rig body might have been the issue. Fluro doesn’t stretch/give like mono and doubled up would have been stiffer than the rig body. 20lb amnesia may have worked better. When I make my rigs I try them out attached from the top to a wire in my workshop. Putting them under strain and releasing as it unloads will show most faults.

Hi mark be interesting to see how you get on with the crimps and captive snood , personally I prefer stop knots but keen to see how the crimps work. I also use a bead with a SRT spring do you have any trouble with the springs rusting I have had a couple rust even rinsing and drying after use like to hear your thoughts on that one happy fishing mate
@seaangling
@seaangling 3 жыл бұрын
The SRT springs certainly have a life span of only a few uses even if they are washed/dried. When they get a little crispy that is when I change them but usually make a fresh rig then even if the body still has some life left in it.

I'd like to try the Trident roto-bait clip and terma-link but emailed Trident twice late last year to see if they could send them to NZ (for a while last year at height of pandemic first wave, mail from the UK could not be sent here). Got no answer either time..... any idea why?

Hi Mark, great video - again- always useful. One question, which may have been asked by others in the past. With our seas already awash with plastic which as anglers we probably witness more than most, do you think we, and the tackle companies, ought to be trying not to introduce more plastic via the terminal tackle we use? I have made an effort to reduce the plastic I use with no discernible difference in outcome. I know we all get annoyed by anglers who leave rubbish on the beach, so why leave it in the sea?
@seaangling
@seaangling 3 жыл бұрын
A very valid point and worth discussion. I have recently read the the largest contributor to plastic pollution in the sea comes from lost trawl gear/netting. Trying to reduce any plastic getting into the sea and eventually ending up as micro plastics in our food chain has to be high in everyone’s thoughts. There are metal alternatives to terminal tackle but the line of choice is still mono. I believe the correct rig and line discrimination for the conditions species will almost eliminate tackle loss. If tackle loss persists then maybe it is right to move along and fish elsewhere. I think with everything there is a balance to be struck and education to share. I don’t pretend to know the answers but I do appreciate your thoughts. It has been some time since I last lost a rig.
@steveharris3045
@steveharris3045 3 жыл бұрын
@@seaangling I guess I've gone to the rule of every little helps. But yes being thoughtful of the conditions and adapting rigs to suit is an excellent point. My own changes came frpm the amount of mono I dredged up fishing in the Bristol Channel, a notorious tackle graveyard. The light tackle, better fight notion, has always been difficult for me, better save the fight and get the fish back as quickly as possible. We are after all lover of the sea and its wildlife.
@vincentkemp88
@vincentkemp88 2 жыл бұрын
Nah Steve I disagree with about leaving plastic in the sea because it wouldn’t happen if people used shockleader on there reels with the right lb line the aswell well as for rigs you have to use plastic on the rigs

Great rig, I’m using detachable hook lengths but when is it most effective to use the different lengths? my shortest is 3ft and longest is 6ft. Thanks
@seaangling
@seaangling 2 жыл бұрын
Tide and species will dictate when to vary the length. For smooth hounds actively on the feed and not fussy, 3’ is perfect. For sensitive rays and if you are using grip weights you want the bait as far away from the lead as possible and for this I use a maximum of 5’. I must admit I’ve never gone as long as 6’. It is beneficial to set the rig after casting and draw back as it falls through the water on the drop. This will straighten everything out and give the hook snood a chance to fish it’s very best.

Great vid again Mark.... But can I ask, what is the purpose of the crimp above the srt spring and hangover clip? Totally get the one underneath for adjustments and tensioning but see no benefits of the one above and is just creating another potential weak spot
@seaangling

I totally agree and even as i was doing it I realised it was not needed. I will do a second video where I capture all aspects from the comments and changes needed after fishing with it.
