You say the other higher end manufacturers, hardy has the best history of any fly tackle maker ever and has a royal warrant to prove it.

Just a question about the distances you're testing: unless the line you're using has a longer belly, how can you say that the rod casts nice at 45 ft (and further) compared to 30ft? The rod won't be loaded deeper after end of te belly, right? Looks like this is just another 'drift boat' rod. 'Tossing' long distances against the banks rather than wade fishing and CASTING. Why do we rate these kind of rods so high? 80% (or was it 90%) of the fish are caught within 30ft. Your reviews are sill very well done Ben!

This is not a drift boat rod. Why not cast it yourself before jumping to conclusions?

ibookje - 30' = 9' of leader + 9' (ish) of rod + 22' of line, which on an MPX is ~110gr vs a full head length of 36'

@@Tridentflyfishing Thanks for clearing up. It's often confusing when it comes to distances cast. Fly line length vs 'all in length'

Hi Ben, I saw your review on the old Zephrus ultralight in which you said that overall you thought it slightly better than the Sage LL? I am contemplating buying what will probably be my last rod, and did have it in mind to go for the Sage LL 389 because I still own an old Sage RPL and have always loved the action which I think should be similar. Problem is, here in the UK it is easier to try out a Hardy rod as opposed to a Sage. Retailers in my area do stock them but usually in only one or two weights/lengths. I have watched your review of the new Ultralight and hope that you could possibly review the Ultralight LL in the 9ft 2" # 3weight , my intention being to be able to fish dries, lightweight nymphs and wets. Any advice or guidance would be appreciated

If it makes things any easier I’ve casted both. I own two trout ll’s and love them, I’ve got a 3wt and a 5wt I’ve also got one of these hardy ultralites in a 10ft 6wt on its way. And I’m ordering a 9ft 2 weight ultra lite LL on top of that. All of them are phenomenal rods My local fly shop also backed up my initial thoughts of, the sage is a better blank but what the hardy loses there it makes up for in components. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in either

The real seat is great! Not only esthetically, but functionally. The wood spacer has an indent allowing for a quick visual guide to correct reel alignment, and the bottom hood is asymmetrical, also allowing for a quick alignment, which is confirmed by laser engraved dot on the dorsal side. Nice little touches that speed up the daily chore of reel alignment. (I have the Zephrus too, and like it, but not quite as much as the NSX)

Probably because when you want to make the lightest UL rod out there, every gram counts. I'll let you know if its a problem, just picked one up.

If you are looking for something similar to the Zephrus Ultralite, take a look at the new Ultralite LL. The LL is vastly different from the Ultralite.

The only thing More Ridiculous, is the So Called, "Review" that some companies have for potential Customers to do, Before Seeing the Product!! Which is total Nonsense at best!! 😂
