Has anyone noticed through all this that he/she didn't have the trailer's landing gears jacked down? The trailer isn't being pulled by the air hoses/cable harness; it's resting its full weight on the rear of the tractor's frame rails.

I worked as a diesel mechanic and have seen them dropped and landing gear shoved up into trailer . Also some get the kingpin stuck between the frame rails and we used 2 forklifts to raise trailer to free tractor . Busted trailers need to be unloaded and reloaded in another trailer . We had a hydraulic lift on kingpin bed to move trailers from dock to dock and even like that some new guys could screw things up .

Had a guy do this at the dock where I worked. He got about a half a trailer length before it hit the ground . Came back in and asked for us to get a forklift to repair his mess. I told him no way would our little fork lift do any good, and he had to figure it out himself! Showed him how to raise it with the landing gear crank. He jerked around for a good hour before I went out and showed him how to raise it with the trucks air suspension and a block of wood. I once knew a retired big dog bus driver who worked at a small private owned bus company. His routine upon arriving at the yard was, step into bus and start the motor. Then he would walk into the office to get a cup of coffee. If the bus was still running when he returned, it was good to go. Sadly, it seems that rookies and new drivers are more likely to do a pretrip. I've seen older truck drivers back under a trailer, hook air lines and elect plug, jump in and go. Not even a quick walk around. Saw one guy leave the yard with trailer doors flapping because previous driver had left them open to air out. Told me later he noticed them when exited freeway about five miles away and made right turn.

Seems weird to me. Possible extreme driver fatigue. They thought they had backed the fifth wheel into locking position but obviously not even close. Line still hooked and landing gear up, so not a dismount. Icy conditions but that shouldn’t have affected perception from a viewer standpoint. Possible distraction of a dispatcher or someone on the phone causing a miss step? Just can’t see even a rookie not knowing they haven’t backed into the fifth wheel enough to lock it. My pet peeve as a driver was that nearly everyone would ram that sucker in as hard as possible. Boom locked! When I demonstrated it could be done slowly and gently and with the drivers window down you could hear the definitive solid click of it locking, I was admonished by the technicians watching. “That’s not the way it’s done thy yelled” . “You have to ram it in there like it’s your third ex wife” . I like finesse and class. A loud click will do any day for me. My take on this video distracted driver somehow.

What I see here is someone who was either not trained properly (supposed trainer was not qualified) or this person is being lazy. Surely this driver is attempting a hook up with a trailer that is sitting to low. Former (86-2018)

Well, maybe instead of sitting there, filming it and laughing at them. Why didn't you get off your a** and go tell them to stop? I am so glad of the way people help each other out now a days. They'd rather sit around and film it And laugh at them

Nah, I like seeing people fail. If you’re dumb enough to do this, you shouldn’t have a cdl. I want you off the road not sharing it with anyone else.

I can only assume that whoever is operating that truck never received any form of training. It's also not clear if this person even has a CDL. As far as what then intention of the interaction with the trailer is, that's also unclear. At the end of the day this is just an over confident idiot messing with something they have no knowledge on. Don't let ego or pride allow you to do anything you may regret.
