What I totally love about this film is that it does not uses exploits the actress to show sexual abuse. The scene where Qala wants a second chance to record Ghodey pe sawar, we are made aware of the disgust and helplessness Qala feels after gratifying the producer, but we are not forced to watch her get abused. A lot of movies walk us through such scenes in slow motion shots and exaggerated screams and calls for cry and we know how much the villain is enjoying it. But Anvita dutt simply just cuts the chase and lets us know that victim hated it. I loved the execution soooo much

Remember the scene when Babil Khan holds Tripti outside their house in snow and a drone shot shows the puzzle structure exactly the same from which Tripti uses the mercury.
@anshgala5443 Жыл бұрын
My interpretation : since that shot showed maze and both of them were inside it. It showed that qala is trapped inside that maze and babil is consoling her (or both of them are trapped inside the maze) And in another shot of maze when qala uses mercury from the small maze. The way mercury moved finding it's way to get out and mix with milk. It showed that with the loss of voice of babil Qala will be freed from the maze. She will finally get out of maze and achieve success, but the maze will become the reason behind tragic end of babil.

This movie made me cry. Qala's behaviour around her mother was a flashback for me. The moment she'd go "sorry mama" was so heartbreaking. The mother was horrible, abusive. All I could think was of the pain qala felt while her mother abandoned her, the strong sense of approval from her mother was so strong. The trauma that she had manifested in her adulthood too. I don't think people even realise that how much an abusive childhood can affect someone, I wish Qala had some love. I don't agree with some comments saying Jagan stole everything, the mother was the main villain. She was the abuser, the boy sang for himself, it was everything for him. The mother was the one who abandoned her own daughter.

The doctor was very unprofessional who says the girl child is strong and in case of twins the stronger child in the womb consumes more resulting in the other child delivered weak, 😅😂, probably from that moment she (Mother) was on abusive mode till …….. The biggest problem with the movie is the monotonous lives of the characters, no friends, nobody to share their feelings, well some class does really fall prey for their own upbringings, taboos, irrational decisions!! Tripti is indeed the take away, Bilaal is promising, Amit Trivedi has done fabulous job, DOP is the heart of this film, the vision of the director and the camera work has a great sync. Right from a child seeking validation to just wanting to be loved the way she is, showing how our society pushes us to become successful to deserve love, to her learning from her mother about attractive opportunities the unethical/exploitative way, to mental health. The film indeed tied so many themes together without making it feel too much. A true masterpiece. I can still hear the words 'Aapko mujhe pyaar karna chahiye, main jaisi bhi hoo'.

I checked around 50 comments in the section and noticed that no one noticed the 'easter egg' in 90% of the scenes including a major one. Whenever Qala is on screen, there is always a dragonfly 🪰 or some sort of moth shown, either on her or around her. Like her saree embroidery, her earrings, the appearance of lamps, her brooch. If you notice Urmila gives Jagan a pretty looking moth made of either diamonds or something precious, which he leaves in Qala's cupboard before committing suicide, like 'you take it since you've been desperate for it'. Major one : When people mourn for Jagan, there is a fly/moth crawling on his face that in next scene Qala tries to kill out of horror. After his death she has a black moth/raven brooch on her Also both her house and studio have gargoyle stautues which depicts toxicity in her environment, especially depicted when music director gets nasty favours done on the balcony. If noticed carefully, while talking to jagan by the river behind Qala is a shadow of horse chariots carousel while talking about its her dream too to get successful and get a golden vinyl, and later after his death there is a shadow of a girl running pretty fast, as if trying to escape Apart from this, when a person tries to take jagans body off the tree, Qala has to hold the body from bottom to prevent it from falling 'plop', but rather both the body and Qala fall depicting her burying under the weight of his death. And as said initially in the film, she's the Survivor, this Survivor took all the nutrition thus killing the sibling . Similarly she did her best to survive by 'just' taking away Jagan's voice, which was his source of life. For her it was her unintentionally naive 'basic nature '. To her she was just trying to breath under toxicity. I would like to highly appreciate the mesmerisingly beautiful music score which is worth playing on a Vinyl record

And maze is also a symbol quite frequently used in the movie like when jagan went outside to console qala the camera pans out to show they both are in the middle of maze design on the ground...also that maze toy with mercury in it which is later the same one which qala uses to poison the milk....I'm not really sure what it actually means but I think it has something to do with Qala's inner jealousy and hatred for jagan which only resides inside her mind like the mercury in the maze game and comes out into action when she actually could not control her emotions any longer and poisons his milk just like the mercury escaped the maze

My pov for the moth metaphor is that just like a moth is attracted to a flame and ultimately destroys itself, Qala also wants her mother's attention, love and appreciation to an extent that she also destroys herself completely in order to attain that. Parental neglect and constant comparison can completely destroy a child's life. Also, since childhood she was constantly reminded of not being a son and so can't achieve what a son could for her mother. This hits home. This is true for so many women even now. My parents werr not as excited about my career as they were about my brother's career and I did try most of my life to prove that I was good enough too. Simple logic is that daughter has to live with her husband and ultimately look after home, if she is not doing good in her career then also its fine. So, she doesn't need that much parental attention or guidance for her career. In Qala's case, her mother sadly realised her mistake rather too late. This movie is heartbreaking to the core.

Don't underestimate the power of mouth of word marketing. The people who need to watch will watch it and just being on Netflix and featuring on the lists as well as good reviews from youtube and friends makes everyone want to watch such movies in their free time
@shreshthasinha285 Жыл бұрын
Because those who already have a subscription they feel like they're not spending even a penny to watch a film. People even watched Sadak to mock them. So in this ah let's watch anything people discover these beauties like Qala. Or anything new launches people are like let's watch it. While these are not the case with theatre. People can't afford to waste their money so even a little bad review they don't give it a try.

Tripti Dimri was absolutely brilliant in Qala as well. I wonder why she doesn't get more movies, her acting prowess deserves to be shown on the silver screen. And omg the music is the best album of the year, for me!
@shalakajoshi1448 Жыл бұрын
she has a 3 film contract with clean slate i guess- bulbul was CSF too. idk about laila majnu. also she seems to be choosing projects slowly and wisely- which showcase her talent as an artist- not just playing the socially correct female protagonists or conventionally loud fighting for equality ladies. she might take up such projects later- but its really nice to see someone make a niche for themselves playing flawed layered characters that one can hate/ empathise with

Don't know how you did this Jammy, I had tears and goosebumps just listening to the review. Though the film is on my watch list, never resonated more with a review. Anvita was brave enough to personally receive the "Golden Kela" award for "Ishq wala love". Great to see that has come long way since then. I am sure, this film will earn her great accolades. And Tripti Dimri is an excellent actress. Hope to see more from her.
@cynical6785 Жыл бұрын
I have just watched the movie and here are my interpretations:- 1. This piece seems to me like a Shakespearean tragedy especially when Tripti's character washes off the mercury from her hands like Lady Macbeth did 2. The maze gifted by Iqbal's character is a reference from the Greek mythology and it is the Labyrinrh made by Dedalus to stop the monster. But as we can see in the movie the protagonist somehow gets out of that maze (by putting the mercury in his drink) and finally the monster unleashes within her. 3. The motif of the snow and the statue like a black demon shows the emptiness in the protagonist 4. Even the house she lives in the present has been dilapidated and is juxtaposed to the condition of her mental state. 5. I personally love this scene when Iqbal's character enters the house and with the turn of the camera we can see the lighting of the lamps that shows the anger of the protagonist. Ps - this is just a person who loves literature, mythology, and such a brilliant masterpieces and I'm dying to talk about this movie to someone who could understand these things I wish I could talk to jammypants🥲🙂❤🤎

To the team of Qala, I am stunned, awestrucked with what I just saw on Netflix. Scenes from Himachal from attic were majestic, lead characters acting, vulnerability, her conveyance of fear and the feeling of being left out makes my heart, eyes and all six senses tingled.the way women are treated when they are settling fresh footprints on their journey, their bodily sacrifices and sunch monstrous men or monsters themselves, was so heart wrenching to watch. My heart is filled with so much appreciation for the visual treat you gave us. The day it's song ghode pe sawaar( my favourite) and it's trailer launched i have been waiting for an experience to watch this, and after watching it i can't Stop thinking about it. Its pure art , it's bliss, it's such a fine filmmaking. Lots of love ❤️

The film has left a deep impact over my mind, seriously the dark theme, no bright colours in the life of the characters and pain of Qala despite achieving heights. Everything was beautiful but heart broken, I felt really bad for Jagan, he was an orphan who just had his voice as his 'own'. Very few movies come like Qala which makes you think about it for a very long time.

There's a Bengali cinema named Hami 2, surrounding around childhood and its dynamics which released in 2022. I had watched only the trailer, but what I understood is how parents always want to make their children geniuses before anything, even if it comes at a cost of the end of childhood too much earlier. The main character has some special talent as a kid, and his parents did everything to use this as a way to make him famous and established in childhood only. But this created boundaries between the boy, his younger sister and his parents. The most heartbreaking yet impactful line was, "Don't become a wonder, otherwise you'll yourself become wondered".

Waited so long for this movie and your review since the trailer launch! From the trailer, I was confused whether Babil's character would be a part of Qala's psyche (Dissociative Identity Disorder) or an original character, but the movie did both, which was shocking but makes so much sense in the story! Been listening to the discography for a week now and Amit Trivedi shaped the atmosphere with the music. Visuals are a totally a treat to the eyes and reminded me alot of one of my favourite KDramas, 'It's Okay to Not be Okay'. A 10/10 movie for sure.

I saw the movie Bulbbul recently and was in Awe with her overall presence in that movie, as well as shocked that she had very few number of movie projects released so far ..... She certainly deserves lot more projects to come on her way, unless she decides to have few.
