@michaausleipzig2 жыл бұрын
The thing is for them it doesn't feel like constant war. Cause the last time a war actually directly affected them was when they tried to decide if slavery was a good thing or not. After that they managed to be almost constantly at war with someone somewhere without suffering any of the devestating effects of warfare at home. Germany (and Europe) sure had their fair share of wars in the past but after ww2 decided that maybe not killing one another all the time was probably the better way to do things.

Don´t get me wrong but it always feels weird when Americans claim "I´m 40% German" instead of "I have german ancestors" because clearly you are a full american. Born and raised in the US. Even if you have a german parent doesn´t make that you "German" (or any other nationality). We welcome everyone here espacially people who want to find out about their heritage and family history and maybe after you lived here for a while, speak some of the language and understand the culture you can call yourself a bit german.
@FactionalSky2 жыл бұрын
The only real Americans are the Natives. All others are Euro-, Asian- or Afro-Americans. Their country is not old enough to have grown out of their roots. Most of them have a handfull generations in the US. Only the far and alt right believe they are real Americans by God's will or whatever. All the others know that they came from all over the world one way or the other. That's why they say "I'm so and so much this or whatever." Because they are. A german parent makes you German under German law as long as your parent was born in Germany or if the german parent was born abroad the birth is registered within one year. In fact, until 2000, having one or two german parents was the only way to be born German. You don't even need to speak any German to be German. Citizenship through territorial birth has only existed since 2000. And citizenship by legitimation is a thing in Germany. So if you can prove that your roots are German and you feel connected to Germany and want to be German in Germany you might become German again. There is not "a bit german". Being german is a word on paper and everyone can become german with more or less effort. It has nothing to do with culture. What culture should it be? There is no general german culture at all. In the south the cultures(!) are hugely different from the ones in the north, in the east from the west and whatsoever and all of them share more with non german cultures than with other german cultures.

While some stuff is true other information is a bit off for example some spelling mistakes... and our education system isn't exactly how it is explained in the video. Yes we have theoretically different types of schools in which we get divided, but first of all you get divided by your grades and while you have a say in what school it shall be there are limitations. Also "Hauptschulen" are an expiring school form. Then we have not only "Gymnasien and "Realschulen" but also "Gesamtschulen" and project schools which varify in the ways they handel things. The difference between "Realschulen" to "Gymnasien" and "Gesamtschulen" is that with the second and third you can make your A-Levels so you can go to the University. And the learn pressure and expactations are higher in a "Gymnasium" than the other ones. There are many other differences I won't touch now but the way he explained it wasn't fitting the current situation with our school system. Though I have to add that there are many interesting facts put together in this video a lot of them are not truely on point, so please take eveerything with a grain of salt. And if you are interested in some further facts aks germans or more official/formal sources. Note: I hope I don't offend anyone with this, I only aim to educate further. So if you simply don't care than feel free to ignore this comment xD Have a great day everybody and I love to see the curiousity regarding different countries and cultures its awesome! :)

Gosh dang it the Charlemagne part pisses me off so much every time i here it. "He was a Framk but i guess it kind of counts mimimi" Guess what. Frank does not equal French. The Franks were a germanic tribe. The german City Frankfurt am Main is namend after the Franks since at least 795 ad. The nations Germany and France didn't even exist back then. So we Germans have as much the right to claim Carolus Magnus as part of our History as the french do. And by the way so do, Switzerland. Belgium, The Netherlands, Parts of Austria, Liechtenstein and Luxemburg because they all where part of the frankish Empire.

a few corrections. "mein kampf" isnt forbidden anymore, which is pretty intersting for universities and people who study history. and youre not allowed to talk good about the nazitimes and the holocaust. youre not allowed to deny them aswell. you can talk about it but not in a positive way. you can actually go to jail for talking good about it. the shoolsystem isnt as good as it sounds. it gets criticized a lot and it the three branches actually enforce stereotypes. "gymnasium" is for people who want to study, "realschule" is for people who arent as good as "gymnasium" but they have a chance to study, if they can score good grades, but they mostly end up with some some middleclass jobs or some crafttrades and "hauptschule" is for stupid people where they dont get much help. furthermore for some unknown reasons, the states themselves have to organize the schools and what they teach. so an a level from bavaria is more worth than an a level in other states.
@kabi_net2 жыл бұрын
the "unknown reason" is actually so that history can´t repeat itself. When Hitler tried to become powerful, he changed the school system aswell to his advantage. This is why each state has to tell their schools what´s going to be taught instead of it being decided my the whole country
