As a European I just cannot understand why most Americans still use these old fashion mailboxes where anybody can open it and steal your mail. Everyone here has a locked mailbox. You can throw in mail but once it falls down you cannot get to it. You need a key to open the lower door. Many of us have changed to large parcel mailboxes that have room for most normal parcels. When you open the entry hatch at the top, a small slide moves and prevents reaching the content. You then put the mail and close the hatch and the mail falls to the bottom out of reach. A lower door is locked with a key. Naturally you can break it open with violance but noone can pass by and just steal your mail. Forget those old open mailboxes. And naturally I have a solar powered ESP32-cam that alerts me when mail arrives, takes a photo of the mail, and upload to my webserver, so I can see if it is real mail or just junk adds that can wait.

I usually fill my mailbox with bees, free honey for the mailman and free stings for the thieves!

Why not add a timer lock, so the mailbox is locked at times when mail carriers won't be delivering?

I like that idea and would be so easy with trigBoard and its highly accurate built in RTC

Maybe add some IR LEDs near the mailbox to help illuminate the guy's face for the camera? Might also consider a tighter frame there, cropping out or masking the street light. We can see someone walking, but there's not much hope of identifying who... Cool that it worked as designed though! Always nice when that happens. 😁

yea I might have to do this - not the first time my mailbox has been messed with...

you can get a pretty good locking mailbox for 100 bucks on amazon. i had to get one recently because one of our neighbors is an old guy with dementia or something and he just roams around messing with everyone's mailboxes

yea that might be something to look into - last year I had some lady walking her dog put an apple core in my mailbox... wtf

My mail box has a hidden camera and sends me a photo every time someone triggers my motion sensor. MotionEyesOS is. A fantastic program

cool I'll check that out

Those monitor devices are at the back of my head for a long time. Your video might move them to the front. Remark, you can play the scare sound only after hours, that mail lady not operate... ;-) (at night)
@Kevindarrah4 жыл бұрын
cool, yea and that would be pretty easy to do - in fact my gateway has a "silent switch", so my system is only armed at night most of the time
@RoSi4You4 жыл бұрын
cool! is that switch operated manually, or it looks for sunset/sunrise events? but mind that, for some people, a sound might not be enough. but if it scares 1 of 10, i consider it successful.

Very cool. Honestly though, it might have been best that your phone was on DND.

how about a mailbox that unlocks for a 2 or 3 hour window of time when the mail lady is likely to show up then locks itself untell you unlock it with your phone?
@Kevindarrah4 жыл бұрын
yea - someone else mentioned this too - would be so easy with the trigBoard and its built in RTC

This wouldnt have happened if your trig board controlled your thermostat. Literally wouldnt have happened. Because your thermostat doesnt have or need a camera. Or a way to be controlled by a trigg board. Do you see the problem here? 🤔

Hello, thanks for the interesting video. By the way, I noticed the Stereomicroscope on your desk. May I ask what brand/model this is and if you are pleased with it?

Looks like an AmScope or identical model. I have been happy with my AmScope, which I have mounted on an articulating arm. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKW4foeDhNesmaM And some pictures of it in my old lab corgitronics.com/?s=amscope Mine is the 3.5X-90X Trinocular SM-4TZ, with a 0.5 Barlow lens, the Super Widefield 10X eyepiece EP10X30R, and their old 144-LED Microscope Ring LED-144-YK. It works well and I like being able to really zoom in on boards to find bad connections. But now my daily driver is a Mantis Compact with 4x lenses: corgitronics.com/?s=mantis
