Claire Conover they are not looking for a open conversation. It’s not about civility. They use weaponized civility against the left. If any of this was to be civil they wouldn’t be separating children from their parents or attacking freedom of the press. They are using democratic norms and naturally good behavior from otherwise good people against them. They know the modern left up to this point haven’t challenged them in the school yard with chains and bats politically. They want to keep us on the defensive with civility politics. This isn’t the time to place nice. They are consolidating power

Dana Lee - He actually seemed mentally unstable. He never did cite anyone who made the alleged Trans Atlantic Slave Trade comment. Instead he made claims of two other comments. If he couldn't remember on the spot, then he could have just said that and moved on. And no one was stopping him from saying what he wanted to say about immigration policy during that interview. David asked what he'd like to say, if not for political correctness, and he said that the U.S. has the absolute right to determine who enters its borders. Okay, lots of people have said that, and they weren't imprisoned, assaulted, fired, etc. But he apparently wanted to make himself, "white" men, the U.S., and Europe victims. It seemed like he was aware that he might not have been coming off very well in the interview. He said that he didn't want to talk about political correctness any longer, David said that he was fine with moving on to another issue, and the guy rage quit the interview. It seems like it was like you said. He couldn't function without some "Amens." David didn't even contradict him very much, to my recollection. I just remember David saying that it makes sense for Americans to be more concerned about U.S. policy than Japanese or Chinese policy.

Daniel L - On top of that, Japan doesn't have a lot of land area, and it has high population density. China was restricting the number of children that native Chinese citizens could have because of overpopulation. They may have different bases for their immigration policies, other than they want to keep their population "pure" or to preserve their culture or something. Now, if he would have said that the U.S. has an overpopulation problem too, I would've listened to what he had to say. Maybe our economy doesn't support a big enough middle class, after the population increase from the Baby Boomers during the manufacturing boom after WWII. But he just complained that people call "white" people racist and don't call some other countries racist for highly restricting immigration. That shit works when you're preaching to the choir that already believes that the "white" man is the "real" victim, but not so much with other people.

Funny, 'cause we have a similar thing happening here in Canada with dual citizens waving American flags here, demanding rights and resources and all kinds of stuff. We don't make a big deal about it though, despite America's many issues with gangs, guns (or a mental health epidemic - depending on where you get your info from), hard drugs, lack of education, political corruption, etc, etc....

Shizanketsuga as much as I dislike everything the guy says, I’d say that Ben Shapiro isn’t a total snowflake. He goes on a lot of left leaning media and is able to maintain discussion. Granted, everything he says is total bullshit, but he is at least capable of behaving like an adult.

Hitthegoat I mostly agree, but I would not call Shapiro exactly a clear-cut right-winger, although his views are certainly and consistently right of the middle, and I have seen him display some snowflake-y behaviour, even arguing feelings over facts which is quite remarkable given his usual stance on that matter. So, pretending it is a spectrum, I would say he is nowhere close to whatever breed the guy from this video belongs to, but a bit of a right-winger and occasionally a bit of a snowflake. ;D

Nick K I kind of feel like it’s more-so a shield to hide the fact that the book is misleading content. Those “Politically Incorrect Guide to” books are basically just right wing propaganda books that sell themselves by claiming they’re the true best source for info to these people who feel “political correctness” makes other educational material invalid. They’re not so much so about political correctness, as they just use the “anti-politically correct” branding label
@5urg3x
@5urg3x 6 жыл бұрын
Jarrett Rabon This is kind of along the lines of what that bloke from New Zealand said about the “intellectual dark web” - it’s the rebranding of bad ideas that have failed before, under false pretenses.

Nick K Yeah, it gives them newer, fresher, or more sophisticated arguments for piss poor ideas. “I don’t dislike minorities, I’m not trying to scapegoat, I don’t mind more of them coming here legally-I just think we should have the right to determine our own borders.” It almost feels like “state rights” people who are pro-confederacy. I’m not “pro-slavery” I’m “anti-big government and pro-states rights”. Just mental gymnastics to justify stupid opinions and cruel policies. Nothing new. I watched “millennial intellectual superstar” Ben Shapiro a couple of months ago argue that we should cut social security while raising the military budget... All they have is the same dumb arguments, just revisited and dressed up. Lipstick on a pig 🐷

RektScrub - That was more of a forfeit than a K.O. I don't find value in such "wins." The guy didn't present his positions in detail for them to be evaluated and challenged if need be. He will probably go back to his echo chambers and claim that David didn't allow him to talk about his main positions because they only talked about political correctness/incorrectness (because he rage quit) and that David talked over him (because he kept interrupting David, when David was trying to ask him a question).

Seems like the guy just wanted a platform to promote his book and didn't expect any push-back, but if you don't want to talk about political correctness don't write a book called "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Immigration" and start the interview talking about how political correctness is about how horrible it is to control borders. Just goes to show disingenuous these anti-immigration guys, and how paper-thin their arguments are. They crumble under the mildest scrutiny. Please keep doing these debates though David.

I thought these were the people on the right who want a conversation. I thought these people on the right didn't see racism in every issue. I thought it was the PC left that was stopping these people from discussing issues in a rational way. I thought being anti-PC meant _not_ being an emotional crybaby dealing with uncomfortable discussions. I thought that when someone has "The Politically Incorrect Guide to..." emblazoned on the title of the subject on which they're writing, they'd at least be willing to countenance a discussion about just what political correctness or incorrectness on that subject entails. If I didn't know better, I'd think that "politically incorrect" had been reduced to a cheap, vice-signalling buzzword meant to appeal to a conservative bias.

I deal with the issues as they arise tho. I dont declare that it was a law that was given from anyone, or *them*. For instance, first time I was exposed to what u might consider "PC culture" I was in a Hangout, and they were playing a video and there was an African American guy on the video. I said verbatim, "oh wow that guy looks like Will Smith," no more or less than that. And a some guy immediately replied to me calling me a bigot. But I didn't launch into, what I see as many doing, claiming to be a victim of "PC culture" or claiming "the PC police are after me," nor "the left, etc etc." No, I replied back to that guy and challenged the shit out of him and shut him right the hell up. I replied with, "are you saying black people cant resemble other black people??" He obviously had nothing to say to that. Then I called him a few choice words like he called me and he shut his mouth. I much prefer to attack that person's argument then make a broad generalization of "PC culture." That's useless IMO and it doesn't focus on the immediate threat, if you will. More and more cultures are mixing due to the internet, cheaper travel, dating sites, etc and that comes with a price, extending consideration to others that we wouldn't other wise "have to."
@wouterdeheus3626
@wouterdeheus3626 6 жыл бұрын
Keith X I think your stance towards this whole PC thing is the right one. People who specifically fight PCism might go towards the other extreme and become deliberately politically incorrect and that means racist, sexist, just an asshole in general... Better to take it on a case by case basis and see what makes sense and what doesn't. And I know what you mean with a black guy looking like Will Smith. It's not because they're both black but they actually look like each other, the faces are similair. I once saw a black kid in a metro station and I though he kinda looked like Obama, so I told him "hey, you look like Obama!" and he and his friends started laughing.😝

He made the bizarre point of China not letting Koreans into their country, right? Well, yeah, it's because their Koreans. The reason I say that is because he didn't mention any other nationality of people that China won't allow in. Also, China will gladly allow Americans into the country, however. I don't exactly know if they allow ANY kind of American whether they're white, black, brown, etc though. But the point is that they'll allow an American citizen into China, but not a Korean citizen? Well, that doesn't seem fair now, does it? So the question is: What were the "fair" points you claim that guy made?

The fact that he hung up shows that he's just an emotional basket case riding immigration as a vehicle to hitch his persecution complex. As a white man he's persecuted, according to him, as an American he is, as a citizen he is being supposedly muzzled -- he's just a poor aggrieved victim in his little worldview and you were gently challenging it. I am not saying this to be snarky -- he needs a good therapist to work this all out instead of playing it out on the world stage.

You have to remember, David, that conservatives like Zmirak are easily triggered merely from being asked questions. They're more used to interviewers like they experience on Fox where they're not expected to be able to support their assertions with evidence and facts.

In my experience, Whenever a far-right ideologue says we need to be “less politically correct in the immigration discussion”, you should be suspicious of whether they just want to be openly racist, and say the kinds of things you used to be able to say in the “good old days”.

Canadians enter the US illegally all the time by overstaying travel Visas. Book a flight to NYC (or wherever) and just don't get on your return flight. Easy. The point being, guys like this don't wave their arms around about the evil Canadians taking their jobs or voting. Seems they only care about folks coming up from the south.

Sounds like a racist. He frames his argument around the fact that only countries that he envisions as to be white (US, Europe) as to being the only ones discriminated against for enforcing immigration. Just the fact that he envisions the US and Europe as white, marks him as a racist and the conversation really should have stopped at that moment. You just can't reason with these types and their ignorance is something they value.

He got flustered right out of the gate when you called out his strawman argument of who is equating immigration to the Atlantic slave trade. He could only revert to his other talking points. Seems to be common these days when these right wingers step out of their echo chambers and actually have their arguments challenged.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a Trump supporters the other day. I brought up a number of criticisms of Trump's policies and how they go directly against what Trump supporters were standing for. Mainly to do with economics and hyper corruption and corporate takeover of the economy. I asked in four separate replies to him to address the issues I mentioned but instead it was Ad Hominem attacks about about how he knows about fascism because he fought in Vietnam. At that point I reminded him the North Vietnamese government was Communist and still are. He literally couldn't challenge one point i made and instead it was condescending paragraphs about how much older and wiser he was . After a while I just realized I was talking to myself because he literally knew nothing other than the propaganda he watches on Fox. I guess this is what has become of Conservative politics. I imagine somewhere William F. Buckley and others are rolling around in their graves at how anti intellectualism has taken over the Conservative movement.

@david it’s always so intriguing seeing these video interviews, according to a small handful of studies. Excessive blinking is a way to show if someone is lying. For those skeptical, lying causes stress, which in turn ups your blink rate. It’s not enough on its own, but helps as excess evidence.

This is the problem I have with some Americans. We are taught to fight for what We believe in. This doesn't always mean our ideas are right. You need to be open to argue your case, and be able to answer those hard questions. If you are afraid of the questions it's because your case doesn't stand up to the facts. Good job being, and listening to the issues.
