Does this work with a PLC simulator, like the one in TIA.

I asked one of our engineers who replied, "Unknown as we’ve never tested this scenario, best for them to give it a try, but no guarantees." Let us know how it goes!

Just spoke with a Siemens rep and they indicated that the basic PLC-SIM that comes free with TIA Portal utilizes a Siemens specific protocol (Softbus) and cannot be used to communicate with non-Siemens HMI software, basic PLC-SIM can only be used with WinCC (Siemens) HMI software. The PLC-SIM Advanced uses TCP/IP protocol and should be able to connect to VTScada using the steps outlined in the video. I have yet to try the Advanced Simulator but the Siemens rep was pretty confident it would work. There is a free trial for the Advanced Simulator if you do not have the license for that software

Just an update, I have downloaded the S7-PLCSIM Advanced and have successfully established a connection between my Siemens TIA Portal application and VTScada. Note in the Online Access category you will have to use the PLCSIM Virtual Ethernet Adapter mode which is based on TCP/IP communication.
