It's almost chanterelles season! A few years back, the weather got dry just as the chanterelles in my patch were beginning to come up, so I actually watered them nightly for about a week. It worked! The earliest ones shriveled up before I started watering, but I still ended up with a great harvest.

You got a nice haul there! We’ve been able to get oysters here but Chanterelles are a little harder to find where I live and people are pretty protective when they find them.

L Cincinnatus is a type of Chicken of the Woods with white pores. I find it to be a better eat than yellow CoW. However, the sample you showed is already a bit past its prime. You can tell by the way the edges have thinned out. Soon the color will fade. At this point, it's like chewing wood.

I found your video to be fascinating! But, one thing I was wondering was if these mushrooms can be frozen if I was able to find a large patch or harvest. I think I have seen the first one mentioned, and I wish I would have known it was edible because it was huge! Can they be made into soup? In may I think I found a morel in my lawn. It was hollow, but there was only one, and it was in the direct sunlight. I looked it up on the internet, to see if it was a morel, but it was growing a few feet away from a Blue Spruce, and I got the impression, they don't grow by fir trees, so I did not eat it. Thanks for explaining these so well!

Yes, these mushrooms can be frozen. The heartier they are, the better they are when thawed.

I've had better luck parboiling the young ones flavor wise. Its not bad just sauteed but that funky polypore flavor cooks out and the young shelves have the consistency of super tender chicken. I generally get mine from a dead oak big enough to stand on, though...and not a lot of people have access to old growth forest.

I've only been blessed a handful of times to eat chicken of the woods. It is by far my favorite mushroom.! (To be honest, I haven't tried many others.)

It's definitely one of my favorite mushrooms as well! Though I had Lion's Mane recently and it was really good too. There's so many It's hard for me to choose a favorite. If you have a lot of oaks on your property, might be able to find some as we're in the season for them right now.

I only had it once and it was delicious! It was growing on a wild cherry tree.

@@TheUnhousedWanderer It may have been because I was eating them in a very fancy restaurant in Minneapolis many years ago. They were added almost like a beautiful garnish. Lovely memory, delicious meal.

I was deer hunting that day, that's why I was whispering. I put that in a text pop up on screen. Sorry it's hard to hear, I tried adjusting the volume whole editing this video and I could hear it fine. I apologize that isn't the case for you.
