I love the 'swishing/mowing' sound of the grass being cut. It's such a thoroughly relaxing, peaceful sound.

Doing a landscaping job, ran out of gas clearing this massive field. We were wondering what to do, leave the job and I saw the owner had 4 of these scythes all sharp, we kept going with those and got a lot done. I showed everyone because I watched this video. And then we found out we did have more gas in the back of the truck haha. But it was a good time and we finished.

I enjoy all of your videos. Growing up Amish, we learned to sweat and not complain. The barefoot is familiar but not the scythe. My hat is off to you and am proud of a young person willing to do things with less. A rare commodity! Her skill indicates she's done this before.

What an awesome life! In all these videos one thing stands out and that's the lack of non-work related sounds. No drone of the modern world in the background no planes or cars, it's wonderful to say the least. I live 10 minutes from the nearest road and I don't have that level of quite. I envy your Stillness.

Very inspirational and educational. I'm on a small bit of land in Northern Vermont. My neighbors use sit-down, gas powered mowers and I just don't see myself spending that kind of money when I want the backyard to look more like a meadow - not a lawn. I'm sure there must be a more natural time-proven method to take care of my little bit of land. I just found it. No - thank YOU!

It's called goats to browse the growth down and then a sheep or two (depending on acreage) to shear the grass. You can't let either one stay on the same ground for very long.

Dandelions are not flowers, city people, they are weeds. I thought her cat was going to jump on her shoulder. Thank you for the demonstration. Not wearing shoes or gloves. None of the demonstrators in any videos. That's dedication. Most people have no idea how much it hurts "tenderfoots" to walk on that rocky soil. I personally know that wielding a maddock or hoe can blister your hands to pieces, no matter what kind of gloves you wear. They aren't wearing any. Think about that.

Obviously, but decorative lawns take more skill. Nobody cares what a meadow of a field look like, after whatever was on it had been cut. efficiency, not beauty was king. To closely cut a lawn evenly with a scythe required extra attention and skill
@sydneyb.267

I Agree. I have a lawn and a rougher area on a hill and by a creek on my half-acre property. The hill and creek bottom were easy to get cut. It took me two summers to get my scythe and my skills adjusted to get a consistently good result on the lawn area--thank goodness for patient neighbors. Now it is a relaxing and meditative activity. Neighbors think I'm crazy, but they thought that anyhow!
