So pleased to hear so! Comments like that make the whole process of filming and making these films feel very worthwhile. It takes me out of my normal practice quite considerably but has perhaps allowed me to have a greater influence worldwide? I used to watch pottery videos when I was a student and they helped a tremendous amount, so it's a good feeling making videos for others who might use them in the same way. Thanks for watching and all the best potting!

@@floriangadsby in college, I watched a lot of Hsinchuen Lin and it really influenced how I approach throwing and pottery. I teach now and sometimes I'm hesitant to show your videos to total beginners--it's inevitable someone gets HOOKED on your level of technical throwing & trimming and expectations skyrocket 😅 Truly, your videos are an incredible resource, and a good lesson that it's all about practice and cumulative, hard-earned experience--pots like this just aren't made in the first 8 weeks, and yet, even you started where my beginners are. Thank you.

Just loved it. The hollowing out of foot is the most difficult part, and super fun. It is one of my goals to get better at it. I thought I did a good job until I noticed a dome on the inside of my teacup! You have such amazing attention to detail and a lovely way of speaking. Loved seeing your doggie 4x in this video. He is the cutest.

I've taken a total of 18 hours of introductory classes of pottery and 9 hours of ceramics and I have to say that pottery and throwing clay on the wheel is a lot more therapeutic than ceramics is, at least for me. I love the whole process and watching your videos takes me back to those classes where I was one with the clay. And I'd love to get into pottery but the price of a pottery wheel is what's holding me back. But every time I see a video of yours, the urge really comes back up to just go for it. The way you trim is hypnotising to watch and I agree, it's also my favourite part of the process. Very informative and great piece as well, truly an inspiration.

Certainly watched till the end, as a matter of fact twice - the first time I fell asleep because it was so relaxing and satisfying to watch. Then I rewatched it to register the information in my head. Although I am not practicing pottery, I love the craft and at some point I would like to learn it.

As a new potter, I can say that I am not a fan of trimming at all! I have trimmed through the bottom of two pots, I have created uneven feet, and somehow I have ruined more than a few sidewalls by trimming badly. Your video makes it look so easy and then I remind myself how much more experience you have…and that you likely had difficulties in the beginning too. This video, in particular, is one I will watch again and again to help me learn to improve. I am not giving up - and I know that with practice and helpful tutorials like this, I will become the potter I want to be ❤

You got this! I hate trimming too. It's tedious and arduous getting everything right. It helps to try to be very, very cautious with every step and also getting creative with fixing holes in the base by adding new clay and adding clay to accidental trimmings 👍 I'm considering getting a trimming clamp cuz it's too time consuming

Made it all the way to the end, as always. I love watching your videos. I'm back in art class for the remainder of the semester, and your videos are so helpful. You are a truly gifted teacher, as well as ceramist, and I am so glad you are willing to offer your insights for all of us who are still learning. A real treasure. For me, trimming is a necessary evil, and I guess that is because I am not very good at it. I prefer the throwing stage, and opening my kiln, of course. I get to see all of the hard work come "alive." I'm really looking forward to reading your book next month when it releases here in the US. It will become a valuable reference in my studio. Thank you!

My hope is these videos and your results will keep me motivated through the learning curve, and maybe even hasten the curve just a bit, by watching how potters' hands are positioned and how they move.

I‘m new in pottery and I love and hate trimming at the same time 😂 I love it because it‘s soo satisfying and in the end it looks so beautiful. I hate it because its so difficult 🙈 Sometimes I feel it‘s more difficult than throwing. I made myself a chuck with your video but I ruined the mugs‘ rims, maybe they were to soft. And always the mugs fly away even if the 3 clay pieces are attached to the bottom 😂 But I will practice until it‘s easy! ❤ Thank you for your videos ❤️❤️❤️

The problem that I (and surely a lot of other 'hobby' potters) have is that as we only do our pottery once a week at a night school or similar, it's very hard to get our pots to that perfect dryness for trimming. In my 2.5 hours on Weds nights I throw a pot then don't have time to dry to properly before trimming. So, I cover it in polythene and hope that in the week to come, it dries just slowly enough for it to be perfect in a week's time when I come back to it. As you can imagine, it very rarely is. I've either wrapped it too well and the pot is still wet, or I've left too big a gap in the polythene and the pot is bone dry. It's almost impossible to get it just right. Even with my spinner, home made from Lego. On the few occasions I have managed to have a pot at that perfect level of dryness, trimming has been a breeze, and I've not struggled at all. However 99% of my time the pot is too wet, or too dry. It's extremely frustrating. However now my whining is over - thanks Florian, that was another great video! 🤣

That's a shame. I'm doing the one night a week, and the room humidity/temp is perfect so that a week under loose poly comes out leather hard with maybe a couple minutes in front of the fan upside down at the start of class. But I've worked in another local studio where anything under plastic didn't dry a bit.
