TrimUI BRICK Stuck Pixels and Dead LEDs

I got my white brick yesterday. All four back buttons were broken. Clicks were not registered in either games or tests, and clicks were very strange. But the screen was perfect and the leds was working. I returned the product as a result. The seller said that there are a lot of returns of these consoles. I will wait for the next batch and try to buy one more. Maybe purple one. happy that i have rg28 as my daily mini device.

Dang, your triggers didn't work at all? The triggers are not that great in my opinion but I don't use them really so it doesn't bother me much. Where did you buy it? Aliexpress? My white one came from Ampown but they have been reliable in the past for consoles so I feel there is a bit higher quality control issues with this release. Kinda like the lotto so waiting for a while is probably a good idea. I would wait until it matures a bit more with cfw support, at the very least a few months.

​@@Johntriger Yes, they didn't work at all, but the LEDs worked))) I bought from a local reseller, so I was able to easily refund the money. In general, it's a pity that this happens, I really like the look, the screen and the small size of this console.

@максимдроздович-х4о It is a pity, it will just end up as E-waste most likely. Hope the quality control improves soon for people ordering it. Glad you purchased from a local seller willing to work with you. Definitely keep going back to them, they seem like a fair seller. Might be a broken record but a Miyoo mini v4 would be a decent close second. Has a pretty nice screen for the size. 333ppi vs 400ppi on the brick. Any of the 3.5inch 480p consoles are only 228ppi

I've bought 2, second had a perfect display, but first had a single dead pixel and visible specks of dust under the screen glass. Their display qc or the qc of their supplier is not great.

Where and when did you order the first one? Same place as the first? QC is disappointing on this release, they seem like a premium unit at first glance. Hope they can fix the supply issues because the screen is quite nice, if you get a good one.

In the apps folder, theres a bak folder, copy the screen test out and give that a whirl.Wont fix it, but it's easy to see if so!!

I would say that I prefer the Black model if I could only have one. The white one has a slightly more noticeable border around the screen due to the white outline, but it's subjective. They both look and feel premium despite the manufacturing issues in these early releases. Shame the white one has stuck pixels and my black one has busted back LEDs. Hopefully, if you order one, you will have better luck.

Oh mine has a few weirdly dead pixels too only at certain angles with a one color screen.

The pixels are pretty small since this has a decent pixel per inch. So when they are stuck it is almost like a tiny piece of dust that cant be wiped away. Hopefully its not in the center of the display for you. Where did you buy it from?

there is a new firmware to fix the tailight led and in the notes, it says it "fixed lcd timings'. it might be able to fix the stuck pixels. I've updated the firmware but my brick won't boot with any SD card inserted. the SD cards reads and play my roms if i insert the sd card after it boots and then insert the sd after its booted. if I try to turn it on with the same card already in the slot, it won't boot, if i take out the sd it immediately boots up without me even pressing the power button. I've tried multiple sd cards. i have formatted them correctly (i have rg35xx that i set up previously). I've seen a handful of posts on reddit with similar issues. Another commenter mentioned a similar SD card issue. That's wild you are saying when you shut it down with the SD inserted it will boot up when you pop it out while its turned off? Seems like a short or something inside of the device. I was able to format the card with just the built in SD card formatting app without any issues. Using Teamgroup SD cards currently as I got a good deal on them. Really sounds like a hardware issue. You could try and return to Aliexpress. My White one with the stuck pixel came from Ampown on Ali. Seems like the update says it turns on the top led upon boot. The Leds are just a gimmick anyway so it doesnt matter to me much. Just wanted to put out there that this release is having some quality issues. I have updated them both to 1.0.6 and the issues are still there for me. Just defective devices in different ways. I appreciate your comment and letting me know there are more people who have SD card reading issues.

@@Johntriger to add, it boots "on its own" when i eject the sd card bc I was holding the power button trying to turn it on with the sd card inserted right before. after holding down the power button down for like 5 sec. with the sd inserted with no response, then i let go of the power button to eject the sd. shortly after ejected, it boots up. Only if I repeat those steps will boot up "on its own". it's more like a delayed reaction to me pressing the power. I have programming experience in web development. I believe more and more that this is completely software related. the sd card reads and plays roms fine if i insert it after it has booted up. I can go to the info and it accurately tells the storage. Updating to the v1.0.6 firmware fixed the led for me. I have seen others report the same issue as me except an sd card with knulli os or minUI installed on it. I used knulli on the rg35xxh, and knulli ran entirely off the sd card, there is no onboard flash storage unlike the brick. I'm assuming that it's booting the knulli card bc it's bypassing the stock os completely lol. This just stinks a rushed and buggy stock os. There is a lot that I like about the brick in terms of hardware design. It seems you get burnt the most in this hobby being an early adopter to a new product. I saw the rg35xxsp for in the 50usd range, miyoo mini v4 or mm+ for 35-40 and those and all the software is a lot more mature too lol.

Yeah, hopefully, it is a software issue. You have added the files from the trimui Brick github page onto your sd card, right? Not the 1.0.6 firmware update but the sd card base package 20241105? It sounds like you have. Yeah, as an early adopter, I have experienced my fair share of quality control issues. I would recommend any of anbernics devices except the SP. One of mine split at the hinge. I have owned almost every clamshell handheld made. This one is the first to break from using it. The v90 is the only good SP knockoff hinge design so far. The miyoo v4 is a great little portable handheld. I just wouldn't want to play it for an hour or two. You can play casual games one handed, and it doesn't cause too many cramps. I have a decent collection, so you can ask, and I might have it or have tried it.

@@Johntriger The not booting with an sd card prevented me from even attempting to use the base package and the stock OS altogether. When I would use the brick to format the sd card, the brick would recognize the sd, but popping the sd on to my pc to add roms, my pc wont read it. I thought updating to 1.0.6 fw would maybe fix the sd issue. The only way i could get 1.0.6 on it was to use the recovery method. It's a different folder on their github, its actually an .img file you have to flash using rufus. That updated to 1.0.6 but did not fix the sd boot issue. I have installed knulli pre-alpha. obviously not bug free but pretty impressed with what is working. Was able to connect to wifi, add roms wireless through smb share, game art scraper was working. I got portmaster up and running although not every game tested launched. Curious about crossmix but will probably stick with knulli once it is more polished. I have a miyoo mini v4 coming in this week lol. I need something with fleshed out while i keep tinkering with the brick lol. The need to fix the charging issue most of these devices. I use my 65w fast charger with my 3ds xl all the time and the battery life is still amazing.

@someuser19 wow the SD issue is strange. It just showed up as one partition on my pc after formatting in software. Yeah the img I flashed for the firmware update takes over a spare card you can't use the one that you formatted for the brick. I used raspberry pi imager to write to img to a spare sdcard. Haven't tried knulli but will after a public release happens. My mini v4 is a great device. I tend to disable quick resume and whatnot, as i have lost progress before on the original miyoo mini v1 within OnionOS. I would recommend you try the OnionOS i think its called or Minui for the v4. I typically use Minui as I prefer it on devices that can't have a wifi connection for retro achievements or syncthing. The Brick feels slightly more premium in hand but I prefer the buttons on the Miyoo v4. I think you will find it to be a pretty good device but a bit small. Both my miyoo v4 and trimui brick can be charged via type c to c. A basic 65watt pd charger is what I use myself. Anbernic only enables c to c on their Android devices. Like the rg353v and RGCube. Pretty sure they just don't include it for cost savings on their sub $100 consoles or something like that. I have considered taking one apart and showing how to add it but I frankly don't have any h700 chipset consoles that I actually would play enough to justify doing it to. Maybe I'll pick up an rg34xx and see how easy it would be to upgrade it with the proper resistors to enable basic type c to c charging. Not sure I feel like doing it to my Anbernic SP models as I don't really like them. Especially since my blue one's hinge is toast.

I also bought a white version, and there is a bad LED spot in the same position as you. I have asked my merchant to replace it for me, because the quality control is too poor

My brick won’t read any of my SD cards, followed every setup guide, formatted them all properly, and my TOP LED bar doesn’t work, I just got the thing today

@ccheww when mine first came in, they didn't have every led working until i loaded the sdcard with the stock files from the trimui github. I'm pretty sure the stock color is glow green, just front lights. I formatted the card via the built-in format sd app on the device. Then it showed up under information. What size and brand are you trying to use? Hope you can actually get the SD card working.
