The funny thing about Riven is, I used to main her, right? But I would always get counterpicked. Every. Single. Game. So I got so good at playing against her counters. Garen, Renekton, etc. that I couldn't play her against champions SHE countered, or was even good vs. And 4 years later that is still true lmao.

You're looking good in those teamfights, that always seemed like the hardest part of riven to me. I imagine a lot of yasuo decision-making kind of transfers. As an Illaoi main I don't think that matchup is too bad for Riven actually. Riven has a lot of the tools that Illaoi hates: movement to dodge tentacles/pull, CC to slow down the swings and stop her from healing, and burst damage to kill her before she can get her whole combo off. In my experience a good Riven often kills me once or twice pre-6 and then there's nothing Illaoi can do any more.

At 20:00 winning in the first 3 is part of it. The bigger thing for riven in my mind is just knowing what ability to start first depending on the enemy and knowing how/when to escape. There is a lot of animation cancel stuff rhat makes it a lot easier to survive in the beginning

Man, riven without cancels is like starting the game with an unsellable item that just gets rid of like 30% of your dps. At least it doesn't matter as much after laning when your abilities do actual damage. No wonder he feels like every champ is a lane counter.

If you were playing Riven from a few years ago, back in the old series, this would've been tougher. They changed the timing on the fast combo and animation cancels to make them easier, but made the other combos WAY harder

Some people just expect you to leave a giant wave to die to tower to follow up on a gank And you're literally Nasus y'know, the campion that literally gets stronger by farming, ganking a Nasus lane early dosen't seem like a good idea, not only that, but he also arrived at 50% health while Trin was 90%, he didn't had his stun stance so the only cc he brought to the table was Phoenix slow, got the aggro not only from the three caster minions but also from the canon, got owned and died Just a masterclass on how not to gank a lane

There are items that make riven work, the problem is, that ingame recommended items are the most played, and therefore they get recommended on pages like UGG or OPGG. If you want to ROFLstomp low elo, or atleast finish other skins, go for penetrations. Profane Hydra + Seryldas Grudge is monstrous build. You deserve some fun.

Yeah, Riven isn't the lane bully she used to be. Her early game is trash so everyone beats her in lane, but you just get to delete squishies after lane ends. That's why she's always played mid in pro play because she functions more like an assassin than a fighter.
