As as masters applied math student who has quite of experience with this, there are some misleading things with this thread. The author implies that the standard deviation of riven is 1.61 as a reason to say the character is bad. For reference a standard deviation of 1.61 means that roughly 54% of characters perform worse in high elo than she does. So even though her winrate may be lower than other characters, it's still overall better than most of the cast.

Her main issue is that she is literally the last AD Fighter champ in the game that didnt get an ability update to make her deal with all the bullshit that we have in the game now which means that while other champions have in their kits effects that cover a gameplay aspects that Riven needs to cover up with item purchases. Examples - doesnt mean that you cant double down on the following qualities): Camille - doesnt need to purchase penetration Kled - doesnt need to purchase anti-heal nor % max damage Pantheon - doesnt need to purchase max % damage nor armour % pen Fiora - doesnt need to purchase armour pen nor healing Aatrox - doesnt need to purchase healing Olaf - doesnt need to purchase healing nor armour pen Jax / Irelia - have mixed damage so 9 out of 10 times they dont need to purchase penetration This means that compared to the listed above champions Riven is starting the game always from behind in utility / effects which is why it feels always so bad to brake even with your oponent. Sure, if you get ahead you snowball out of your mind, but thats due to Riot pushing Rivens AD scaling to absurdity instead of actually updating the champ therefore causing this absolute feast or famine situation for the Riven player and the oponent (Pantheon also used to be like this). My humble shortened opinion about Riven - she is good right now, maybe even nerf worthy, but she feels bad to play.

Her AD scaling on Q (50% - 70% per rank ability) is pretty decent. The fact that you dont know that tells me that you have no clue what you are talking about. Having that said Im going to shock you know. Belveth has longer range dashes on her Q while having 4 of them with basically no cooldown in late game without being forced to buy ability haste and she has 100% AD scaling on them and her dashes can crit and apply on hit effects :) Rivens kit is not absurd by modern standards. In fact her kit is probably on the weaker side if you compare her to modern champs.

Honestly, the game just doesn’t suit her anymore. She used to be the most mobile skill expressive snowball champ in the game. Now there are players with instant speed boosts, point and click glide across the map! And let’s not even mention the amount of CC there is to basically negate her biggest strength. Mobility! Assassins pop you in 1 combo, champs you used to be able to crush instantly, are now able to out scale you early on and by the time you come online the game is over. She will shine again, in 2XKO…. Where she belongs. True to her nickname, she will be an exile from League soon too. Sadge.

Also, giving a character only true damage does not mean that he is good against a tank, because he simply can build hp. Im no Riven main but I think Riven is "bad" because shes too hard to play in low elo. At least in my experience. For example when i play Sett and Chogath my 2 mains i just turn on some music and play braindead and focus on warding mostly as the "hard part" but when I play Riven i need to completely focus, be ready to mash my keyboard for the perfect combo, and I think out of 30-40 games i played on her i maybe won the lane 2 times, every other time i get solo killed once then dived 9 times or I just go equal with the enemy and get outscaled. Shes imo the worst top laner for low elo.
