I’m glade the task went smoothly! I’ve led horses tied head to tail, the biggest problem we had was navigating through the forest, especially if they didn’t like to play follow-the-leader and stay on the trail. They must have been weary of the ice because usually moving horses can turn into a race. Calibar is getting some good airtime, he’s becoming a KZbin celebrity!!

Just found your channel. We use to live across the hwy from the Flynn Ranch. My eldest son started 1st grade in the old Toston school. By the looks of your videos it appears you are farther down river. Nice to see the country again but I had no idea it got soo expensive. I helped a guy named Mike Lewis feed cows and he was across the river behind our place, this was in the early 80's. At that time he said ground was going for $250.00 an acre.

The old rancher i worked for when i was just outta high-school, out by Drummond mt, told me if you were to ever move a herd of horses any distance, that you were to ride a Stud horse. He said that the herd respected the stud. What do you think about his reasoning Trinity? I rode that old ranchers stud on a cattle drive up hill through timber. Even after my brother tuckered him out he was the most horse i have ever rode.

Here in my part of the country, we get lots of ice storms. So when the roads are froze over you have to stay to the roadside. Never put ice control shoes on them cuz when you put them together you get a lot of cut up horses. Especially with ice control shoes. Someone get out in front, someone in back everything works fine. But I love that Montana country.

I'm also curious...... Why do y'all keep so many horses? Most cattle ranches down here in Texas don't run that many head of horses, as it gets too expensive to feed horses that aren't working/earning their keep.

In my experience, it depends on how many people ride the same horse; the more people ride the horse, the more on reins, the less on voice. But, damn! SO many horses for a ranch. There has to be a horse business on top of the cattle business.

So, why so many horses on a cattle ranch? I grew up on farms/ranches in E Africa. This snow stuff is blowing my mind! We never had shoes on our horses, so there was a whole other level of care that did not involve spikes for footing. Thank you, your horsemanship, knots, and calls are so superior to anything I leaned.

Nope! Brother, your braver than me. I'm putting boots on my shoeless mount if I'm riding on ice. JS. I hate going down with a mount. Going down on ice is even worse. What are your temps over there?? We've been 1° to 6° by day, and all negatives at night next door. (Western ND for my job, not home in WY) . Warmer today 17. I see we got more snow than you again. So weird, I'm not that far from MT. Most ranches (at least in West TX) have a bone yard or place where horses & cattle are placed after they die. Nature takes its course and they return to the earth. Sometimes, if there is a excavator to use, a horse will be buried.
