Kenwood Trio TS520 SSB (sideband) transceiver from the 1970's.
Launched in 1973 this is a hybrid transceiver which is a combination of solid state electronic components, such as transistors. But with a thermionic valve (thermionic tube) RF power output stage.
The video shows the radio recieving amateur radio / ham radio transmissions.
The transmissions are from other countries, due to the long distance propagation characteristics of the band below 30 MHz. These are known as HF, which is short for high frequency.
The term high frequency (HF) can seem slightly confusing, as the frequency is less than 30MHz, whereas FM commercial radio stations broadcast typically between 88Mhz and 108MHz (though varies slightly within regions of the world).
