TRIP REPORT: Amtrak California Zephyr Rocky Mountains Train Ride (a.k.a. Denver to Glenwood Springs)

I have ridden all the AMTRAK routes west of St. Louis and have ridden the Zephyr twice. This train experience and the Coast Starlight from L.A. to Seattle are my favorites in the U.S. I also liked taking The Canadian between Vancouver and Jasper. Thanks for sharing your video.

Both stations definitely gave that past time feeling, woodwork and ticket windows, nice! The views on the train were awesome! Although the cleanliness was left to be desired, you had a comfortable ride so that's a plus. Looks like a great trip overall 😊🍅

Yes, the stations were wonderful. And it was something we would love to do again, despite the delays and cleanliness issues. The ride and views were definitely worth it.

I have been traveling by train most of life...parents loved trains and chased every one encountered along frequent North Carolina to Georgia coastal trips along US 17, which parallels the Eastern Seaboard railroad. The engineers would toot at us as we waved from the windows...Dad would toot back ! I've met people from all over the world, diplomats' families, foreign students, famous and not, just relaxing and , for a day or two, being a community. I no longer drive cross country....who, in their right mind, would?

You got that right. I try to work in a train ride whenever I can. Unfortunately the line that passed through where I live was suspended a while back. So if we want to ditch the car, we still have to drive 150 miles to get to the nearest station 😕

Can I ask how much you paid for the bedroom option. I looked on the Amtrak website but it is quirky. It looks like it divides the trip into two segments. Just looking for an average price. This is definitely on our bucket list when we retire. Great video. We both enjoyed watching

We actually didn't have a bedroom, just regular coach class. We went from Denver to Glenwood Springs which took about 6 hours. The seats ranged about $25 - $55 per seat.

The Amtrak schedule doesn't really lend itself to a day trip, so if you did the one we rode you would have to spend the night somewhere down the line and then catch the train back the next day.
