Berlin Hauptbahnhof (Hbf) is the 8th Wonder of the World and I spent a lot of time there last September. I stayed at Intercity Hotel overlooking the station platforms and watch trains from my hotel room day and night when I was not attending Innotrans 2022 or out touring the wonderful city of Berlin. I only regret I didn't get a chance to dine in the CZ restaurant car on train from Berlin to Hamburg.

I also like Berlin Hbf station. I remember my first visit there in 2017, I was amazed .. but now it seems to me quite ordinary after 5 years of regular travel :-D As for the Czech dining car, it's sometimes an alchemy to plan the right train to connected to other connections :-)

Díky moc! Amz138 jsem stihl ještě na západním expresu (mám z něj i video). U toho Ostravanu je to teď trochu složitější, dvě ze čtyř Amz jsou aktuálně mimo provoz (jedno z nich už delší dobu), takže se zde často vyskytují mimořádná řazení. Uničovku můžu určitě zkusit, až se najede na plný provoz :-)

Díky moc! Pokud jede Berliner ve správném řazení a počtu vozů, tak je to skvělý spoj! DB se obávám že by nasadila IC1 vozy na 1. třídu určitě kupé a co se týče jídeláku, ČD / JLV jsou prostě jedny z nejlepších. Ano, tato trať údolím Labe je jedna z mých nejoblíbenějších :-)

Tyhle tripreporty z 1. třídy se mi moc líbí. Běžného člověka asi ani nenapadne si za to připlácet, tak alespon v reálu vidí, jak to vypadá. Možná si na základě tohoto videa (a několika dalších na tomto kanálu) nějakou takovou libůstku v budoucnu dopřeju 🙂

Díky :-) Určitě doporučuji vyzkoušet! On už ten cenový rozdíl mezi 1. a 2. třídou není tak velký, což je znát někdy i na vyšší obsazenosti. Nedávno jsem dokonce na trase Břeclav - Vídeň vychytal promo tarif, kdy jednička na tento úsek stála stejně jako dvojka :-D Ale jinak po Česku využívám roční časový doplatek do 1. třídy v kombinaci s IN50.

@@PeteBrandy Jj určitě vyzkouším. V rámci vnitra si občas jedničku dopřeju, v zahraničí sem tam taky, ale na mezinárodní dopravu jsem si ještě netroufl. Ale to přijde. Už brzy 🙂

Proč by ho to nenapadlo? Když jedu do okolních států nebo někam dál u nás, tak jedu skoro vždycky první třídou, nestojí to o moc víc a člověk se tam tak nemačká. Akorát posledně z Katowic se nám stalo že vůz 1. třídy vypustili a dostali jsme kompenzaci úžasnejch 30 kč. 😆

Bohužel mám stejnou zkušenost, jednou na EC Silesia a jednou Cracovia, kdy vlak jel bez ARmpee.. bohužel na těch obratech rotovala jedna souprava, kde ten vůz chyběl, občas ho nahradili Bmz a občas ničím.. :-D

To do list : travel on a czech set from prag to berlin or vice versa. Last year i travelled from prag to berlin with a czech set but there was a bus trip in the middle btw Decin and Dresde

Unfortunately, on some days, train operations are limited due to construction work on the German side. Most every Monday, only the first morning and last afternoon trains run the entire route.

Mir sind Abteile auch lieber, aber bei modernen Wagen (oder auch bei den alten DB-Bm) sind die einfach zu klein. Wenn man da mit ein paar Leuten zusammen sitzt, dann kann man als großer Mensch kaum noch bequem sitzen. Das war in den Bautzener und Halberstädter Abteilwagen zum Glück besser, aber so viele sind davon ja nicht mehr unterwegs.

Hello, thanks for watching. These codes mean the type of car and its features. Capital letters indicate the class (A - 1st class, B - 2nd class, WR - dining car, WL - sleeper car ..), small letters indicate the features of the car, which usually differ by country. ČD also uses an index, which means the vehicle code according to the Passenger Car Register. The first digit indicates the type: 1 - 1st class, 2 - 2nd class, 3 - combined car 1st/2nd class, 4 - passenger car with a luggage compartment, 7 - trailer cars for motor railcars, 8 special cars (sleeping / dining / salon), 9 - luggage or mail cars. Meaning of the second and third digits: 00 - 49 cars for international RIC traffic, 50 - 89 cars for domestic traffic, 90 - 99 double-decker, narrow gauge or special cars.

@@Martin-on2pp Yes, the capital letters are the same, but in small letters can be some differences.. but in general, for example, the letter "m" means a carriage longer than 24.5 m (usually type UIC-Z), "p" is a open space car (if there is no letter p, it will be a coach with compartments), small "d " means space for bicycles, "z" or "ee" - central power supply, "f" - control / cab car, "c" - berths (usually in couchette), "h" or "b" - space for disabled people ..

Some trains I noted change carriages and the front end. How do you know when this will happen? It doesn’t not say on the ticket when you buy.

I usually have a ticket for this train from the ČD (České dráhy) and in their mobile application I can see any changes of the train composition.

Seems like 2023 will be the last year of classic train on this line. The confortjet sets are coming in 2024.

Yes, it will be first service where the ComfortJet sets will be deployed. This is primarily due to the 230 km/h speed requirement between Berlin and Hamburg. ČD has also ordered new Vectrons for this speed.

@@PeteBrandy On the Hamburg-Berlin line I always would prefer to take an EC. It runs just 15 minutes longer and you have compartments + the fare is much cheaper.

How did you order the food? Does someone come around and ask?

If you are traveling in 1st class, the dining car staff comes to take orders directly at your seat. But if the dining car is more busy, sometimes it is better to go to the dining can and make your order there, but then they will bring the food to your seat if you want. In 2nd class, it is necessary to walk to the dining car. But in 2nd class there is also a minibar cart with a selection of smaller snacks and drinks can (only if the train is overcrowded, the minibar cart does not run, because it will not pass through the people in the aisle).
