Came across this video after I returned from my trip just a few weeks ago, flew LH 747-8 out of LAX to FRA in business, and it turns out I flew on the exact same jet as you did! D-ABYD! Was honestly a dream flight as I chose to sit on the upper deck. Like you said, although the hard product is dated, simply knowing you're flying the Queen just makes all that disappear into the background

Great report. We are flying to Europe this summer on either UA or LH, using United Miles. If biz seats are available out of Houston on LH’s 747-800, we will go that route IF… we can get seats on the upper deck! It may be my last shot at doing that. If it’s the main deck, I may as well be on an A-350.

You are a traveler after my own heart. I literally have one more week to go before my trips on both the 744 & 748 on LH. Like you, the only reason I booked on LH is the opportunity to fly on a 747 before they are gone for good. I was surprised they parked on a remote stand, but the photo opportunity made up for it, and now I’m hoping the same happens to me next week, European winters be damned. It was also reassuring that the food service in biz has improved to pre-Covid levels. There are some recent harsh reviews on LHs hard product out there. I need to change my seat from the humpty-hump upstairs down to the main deck for one of the daytime legs to get that other perspective. Nice work. Going to check out your Lightroom & Photoshop vids.

Great to see you travelling again Alvin and making your cinematic trip reports. I wouldn't complain travelling again in J, but the product did seem dated, even compared to my last fight on CX 777 J class at the beginning of 2020. I took a tour of former QF 744 VH-OJA over the holidays, and was surprised at just how quickly the 747 cabin seems dated - the shakes and rattles on takeoff just took me back to my last 747 flight, which is somehow almost 10 years ago!

It wasn't captured on video but on the taxi out for takeoff, the wheels/brakes were squeaking like crazy, and combined with the rattles on takeoff just really reminded me how much history these birds have! But yeah, definitely added to how dated it felt.

Well done. In particular, your narration was not intrusive, nor did it overwhelm the visuals. It's my dream to fly on LH's 747 while we still have the opportunity. If you haven't done it already, the FRA airport tour of the apron, runways, hangars, etc. is well worth the nominal price. We've been through FRA a few times, and we finally did the tour - it was great. Thumbs up from YLW.

Flying the 'Queen'............ Yeah !!! Now you're talkin'. Loved the black/blank transitions timed with the music. Nice accent. I've flown Lufthansa Business Class to Frankfurt before / long ago and IMHO, they're just slightly about average in comparison to others but hey, when you're flying in a 747 with 4 engines for power, all is forgiven. Greetings from Singapore thanks for the trip report - I 'am really surprised that Lufthansa shoddy outdated business class on the premium latest 747-800i looked more like the old 747-300/400 series and meal nothing like a business class meal meal. Will keep in mind when flying with Lufthansa . A comment on your video during take off you drowned the wonderful engine sound with music to an avgeek spooling of engines and take off power are the best sounds .

Hello Alvin, amazing trip report as always! As a German I think Lufthansa’s service, food and amenities are pretty good although their business product is outdated. I don’t know if you heard about it but Lufthansa will soon getting former Philippine Airlines A350s which have a 1-2-1 configuration in business class. They will only change the colors and some other things in the cabin but I’m really looking forward to it.

Not only are the seats superior on the upper deck of the Lufthansa 747-8i there is also a ton of additional storage. I would give up an engine view any day for that level of excellence.

I did the same flight last month. I picked seat 16A economy, which is almost like flying Business (without a bed though). But I was right behind the last Business Class seat and had plenty of space for my legs. Rows 16 to 19 are a small Economy section between Business and Premium Economy. Its a great option if you dont want to pay for Business Class. I have to agree screen was reflecting a lot and video quality was not very good. Food was ok, not great, and 747 looked outdated in many aspects. I understand the hype for 747, but I find Boeing Dreamliners more comfortable. I am flying back to SFO soon and picked Boeing Dreamliner Business Class.

Great video, flying PVG-FRA-BRU in a few days first time on their Business and third time in business at all, so I definitely go crazy even if the product isn't insane lol. I thought they may block off one seat during COVID, but it seems not. Was your flight busy?

Nah there is no seat blocking throughout the entire plane. The flight was relatively full but the business class cabin still had a few empty seats, at least on the bottom deck. I think the upper deck was completely full.

I am surprised that more foreigners like Lufthansa than German's. I am German but I prefer Emirates and the Airbus A380. The seats, service and food selection in my opinion is better. Anyway it was an enjoyable video.... 👍
