TRIP REPORT | SAS Rebooked Me on A350! | SAS Airbus A350 | Newark to Copenhagen

SAS Trip Report flying from Newark to Copenhagen onboard one of the SAS A350 on a beautiful spring afternoon in New York and a cold and rainy morning in Copenhagen.
What a day! Omg! What a day! I was booked on a SAS connecting flight from Newark to Copenhagen (via Oslo, so my flight out of Newark was to Oslo). The flight was scheduled to be operated on an Airbus A321Neo. Everything was absolutely normal and we even had our usual planespotting session before boarding.
It wasn't until 50 minutes before the flight to Oslo that I got an SMS from SAS saying that my flight was delayed by 4 hours (the plane had landed hours ago). I went immediately to the only SAS staff I saw, which was the CPH boarding gate staff. They told me the plane to Oslo had a hard landing in Newark and was under maintenance.
I asked if there was any chance to fly directly to Copenhagen on the SAS flight they were about to board. After many calls, the SAS supervisor changed me to this flight and she even gave me a window seat! Thanks so much to all the staff there. I had important obligations the next day and not being able to fly would have been catastrophic.
The only bad part of the change was that the seat was in the middle of the wing... so that forced me to do my best to make this video. I really hope you enjoy it. It was pretty hard to make.
All that being said, the flight wasn't bad at all. Actually, just after departure, we enjoyed the best views of Manhattan I've ever seen! It was just amazing! We flew exactly over it! For sure on a seat not over the window it would have been better... but come on! After all that happened, I guess I couldn't ask for more!
We flew towards the Northeast, heading to Canada. We left Quebec on our left and Halifax on the right. We then entered the Atlantic Ocean, flying on direct course to Copenhagen. After 5h over the sea, we finally saw some mainland. We landed in rainy Copenhagen ahead of schedule, ending an adventure I Will never forget.
About the onboard service, in the SAS GO class, only one complimentary non-alcoholic drink is offered. All the others are for purchase. A normal economy class is still served. In this case, the main meal (and the only option available) was chicken with pasta and vegetables. It came with some ham with some sauce/cream and lettuce as a starter, bread and butter, and a chocolate cake as dessert. To be honest it was quite good, especially the starter. For being an airline that is under administrating after filing bankruptcy... the catering is kept at a good level. Better than other legacy airlines in Europe, for sure.
The breakfast service was offered one hour and a half before landing in Copenhagen. Again, I was impressed: I was expecting just a tiny thing, but they offered orange juice, coffee, warm bread with butter, and salad with cheese and ham. It wasn't the best but, again, better than many other legacy airlines in Europe.

I flew from Newark to Stockholm on that A330-300 last year. It was phenomenal, as you had on this food was great and a very friendly cabin crew. I definitely recommend SAS to cross the Atlantic.

Locking the toilets, in this day and age, my my my! My first trip to Copenhagen was with SAS but due to early morning fog which was common in those days(never understood why they scheduled so many early arrivals because of it), we had to stop in Stavanger, Norway to refuel as we were arriving from Anchorage over the North Pole and aircraft did not have the range they do today! The sun was just rising and with the patchwork provided by all the farms in the area, was quite a scenic arrival! Like your background music!

Muy bueno Lucas, como siempre! A mi me pasó algo parecido pero al revés... Estas últimas navidades tenía un vuelo en 772 YYZ-CDG-MAD con Air France, pero el día anterior al vuelo me mandaron un mail diciendo que no podían garantizar mi escala en CDG, por tanto me reubicaron haciendo YYZ-LIS-MAD en un A21N de TAP, y tengo que decir que en el momento no me hizo mucha gracia la idea de cruzar el Atlántico en el 321, pero sin embargo luego me acabó sorprendiendo... Una experiencia digna de vivir!! 😅

You make a small mistake at the beginning of the video. SAS operates out of Terminal B at EWR. Looks to me you arrived at Term C 😊 Very nice video. I have flown that route often. Love SAS. Used to live in NJ, so it was easy to get home to family in Copenhagen. Now I'm in Colorado, and I'm begging SAS to create a Denver-Copenhagen route. No direct flight route exists currently. Maybe United could make one if SAS doesn't? Anyways, seeing this video made me homesick for DK. Lots of memories from that route 😊

Another good episode! I was very surprised that SAS didn't serve free alcoholic beverages as it's an international flight! I was also amazed they announced the lavatory would be locked for landing. A few decades ago I once barely made it back to my seat from the bathroom/ lavatory before we landed. Now that I know better and am an experienced flier, I'm sure the cabin crew on that flight were not pleased with me for having almost landed with myself "in the toilet". Personally, I would not want to travel across the Atlantic in a narrow body aircraft, nor would I even across the United States in a 4-5hour flight. Therefore I was glad to see that you ultimately flew on the widebody. That A350 quiet takeoff was beautiful and virtually silent! Looking forward to your upcoming trips wherever they may take you✈️

Thanks so much, Tina :)) To be honest, SAS really surpised me with the service on this long haul flight. Except for the non-alcoholic drinks (only avaialble if you pay for them in the lowest economy class) the service wass very solid, and definitely better than the majority of legacy airlines in Europe :)

Great report! 😍I just took SAS to Oslo about 2 months ago with the A321LR. It was also my first time ever flying single aisle transatlantic and I was a bit concerned about it, but it turned out to be overall nice! On the same trip I flew SAS on 3 more flights and yes, I have to agree, SAS is nice! A lot better than Lufthansa. Swiss might still be the top though. Anyway, Thanks for sharing this, reminds me I have a lot of flight vids I still need to post! 😅

I won't fly across the pond on single aisle aircraft. I never would have booked that flight to bein with. For long haul flights I insist on 2 aisles so there is a way to make a walking path inside of the aircraft and be able to get up and walk at least once every 2 hours. I think single aisle long haul is overall a very bad idea.

Well, from my experinece almost nobody walks on the aisle of a wide-body. You can stretch the legs the same way on a single-aisle, which is by just standing up next to your seat. That being said, I also prefer a wide-body, but I just wanted to point that that idea is just in our mind.

Sinceramente el 95% de las aerolíneas no informan nada de nada cada vez que tienes problemas ( porque te desviaron a otro aeropuerto, porque se ha retrasado tu vuelo por el motivo que sea , porque te han roto tu maleta, etc.). La única aerolínea que he visto que cumple con todo es Binter . Si hay alguna aerolínea como Binter me lo decís

If those are your conclusions after all the explanation on the video... well... there's no reason to loose more time with you. Nobody is claiming nothing to maintenance; in fact maintenance are a key part of the aviation safety chain.

@@OnBoardHD I know maintenance is KEY towards the aviation industry.. I’ll give you a simple example ready?? Was down in Mexico won’t say which airline it was coming back to the U.S.A.. Before we leave the airport airlines app says airplane on time.. Arrive at airport 2 hour delay after two hours company cancels flight in regards towards “maintenance “.. Well come to find out the following DAY the plane had NO pilots to fly the plane out of hours… SOOO the company had to fly pilots in from Miami so we can return back to the States..
