TRIP REPORT | The Small Beats the Big One!? | Lufthansa & Austrian | Vienna to London (via MUC)

Austrian & Lufthansa Trip Report flying from Vienna to London-Heathrow via Munich airport, on a cold and wet autumn morning.
2 flights in 1 trip report, that's what we have here. Today we'll be making a trip to London Heathrow with Austrian & Lufthansa. We'll be able to compare them; see their cabins, their hubs, their onboard service.
It was a cloudy day all over Europe, thus we haven't a lot of landscapes on the other side of the window... but we had some very nice takeoffs and landings. Also, we had some quite strong turbulence during the Austrian flight, particularly upon reaching cruise level.

Austrian will be introducing a pay-per-eat catering service at the end of March... the breakfast won't be available. I will review it, but I think the best catering service in a European economy class is gone forever.

Sometimes I'm still in awe of how immense airport terminals have become from since I was a kid. The views from above were great. And I never experienced so much turbulence on a flight. Some of the many things I like about the trip reports of this channel.

Having flown on both airlines on short haul flights. I personally prefer Austrian - they seem to have more friendly crew, which makes the experience so much better. The breakfast provided for 10€ is amazing quality. I’ll need to prebook one the next time flight with them. ✈️

Very impressed with the "Pax remaining seated" discipline! Perhaps the "self loading cargo" are learning a few lessons during Covid!

To be honest, it's happening in almost every flight. Cabin crew reminds the pax to stay seated until the row in front of them has left and around 95% of pax always remain seated. The other 5% needs another call by the crew to return to their seats :D

Por desgracia, este desayuno ha sido retirado por Austrian... de ser el mejor a bordo de cualquier avión en Europa.. a nada. =/ La verdad es que ahora mismo ya no puedo recomendar fervientemente volar con ellos. Wow, This really shows how Lufthansa doesn't exactly deserve their 5*. Austrian is very under-rated in my opinion. Great report though! Love having 2 flights in one video.

Absolutely agree with you, mate :) In my honest opinion, LH doesn't deserve those 5 starts. Maybe at some point in the past, it deserved them... but not at all now (not even just before the pandemic).

Voy a dejar un comentario en español hoy! Que cool! Visitaste mis dos homeairports. Londres y Múnich. Es interesante que ya empiezan a repartir pick ups en ese vuelo. Cuando viajaba desde MUC a LHR en septiembre solo había un servicio de bebida. (A partir de la primavera ya no será gratis, van a cobrar para todo) Buen vídeo y que tengas un lindo fin de semana.

@@OnBoardHD Pues serán todas las aerolíneas de la Lufthansa Group pero hay una pequeña diferencia dentro del grupo. Si viajas con Lufthansa o SWISS solo hará una botella de agua gratis, con Austrian ni la botella estará incluida.

@@LeanderTravels Eso no es cierto. He viajado con las 3 varias veces desde Julio (más de 4 veces con cada una) y en Lufthansa hasta Agosto no daban absolutamente nada. En Swiss una chocolatina y un vaso de bebida. Austrian desde el principio un vaso de bebida. Hacia Septiembre, SWISS siguuió igual, Lufthansa pasó a dar una botella de agua y Austria se mantuvo igual. En cualquier caso, la única que ofrece un servicio alternativo y de calidad es AUSTRIAN con su comida a bordo pre-pago. Me gustan mucho Lufthansa y SWISS, pero sinceramente, tanto en lo bonita que es la cabina como con la opción de servico a bordo, AUSTRIAN está un pasito por delante de SWISS y LUFTHANSA en vuelos Europeos. En largo radio no puedo opinar... Saludos!

Austrian is a really super carrier...have flown Lufthansa myself a couple of times...and honestly ( my personal opinion..) they're just about ok... lots of " smaller " carriers now offer much better on board catering and service..and more competitive pricing..this is why LH has seen a lot of it's passengers move to those carriers now.. thanks for sharing...!!

Really glad that you enjoy the videos so much! :) The aiplane destinations are known by the airport info screens or with FlightRadar24, just by checking the registration of the plane. However, in small airports that I know, or where there is not a lot of traffic, it's quite easy to know where almost any plane will go. Cheers! :)

Lucas, me encantó este vídeo, está buenísimo. Amo las turbulencias, habría pagado por estar ahí. Me encanta la pintura de los Lufthansa sin el amarillo y mi TOC, me tenía loco con ese papelito debajo del asiento delante tuyo jajajajajajajaja, no puedo ser tan neurótico jajajajaja. Oye, yo te sigo buscando vuelos interesantes por si vienes a América del Sur. Encontré una línea aérea argentina (vuela solo dentro de Argentina) que se llama Andes y tiene puro MD-80 (deben ser más viejos que mi abuelita... bueno, obvio que más viejos que yo, jajajajaja) Un abrazo fuerte desde el otro lado del Charco, Santiago de Chile, América del Sur

Viaje interesante, turbulencia y nubes es habitual en vuelos en Sudamérica por las montañas; me dió la impresión que ninguno de los dos aviones accionó motores en reversa al aterrizaje o fue muy silencioso?? En el minuto 19:28 hay un sonido típico en los A320, cómo de seguros eléctricos, no sé si corresponden a eso y podría ser de compartimientos de carga? Delicioso desayuno en Austrian jejeje.

Muchas gracias, Mauro! Me alegra que te haya resultado interesante este trip report! :) No, no, ambos accionaron las reversas. Al aterrizar, los aviones siempre accionan las reversas, luego pueden dejarlas al ralentí (idle) o usarlas realmente, pero accionarlas se accionan siempre. Esto es porque las reversas tardan, dependiendo del modelo de avión, entre 5 y 10 segundos en estar operativas, por lo que si se necesitan usar por cualquier motivo, han de estar abiertas y listas para usar de inmediato. El sonido del 19:28 es la PTU (Power Transfer Unit) cuya función es transferir energía hidráulica de un sistema a otro. Los sistemas hidráulicos reciben la energía de los motores. En tierra se suele rodar con 1 sólo motor encendido, por lo que uno de los sistemas hidráulicos queda sin energía. La PTU transfiere energía del sistema que tiene el motor encendido al otro. I've never flown Austrian in long-haul... however, what you've seen on this video for short-haul doesn't apply anymore... Austrian has stopped the cateirng service I show on this Trip Report... it's not possible to book pre-ordered meals on the website. They've said that the new service will be much better (pay-per-eat on the plane) but I sincerely doubt it... On long-haul the service should be the same as it was for the last years. Have a nice flight :)

Grabación genial como siempre 😁 He decidido ya no volver a reservar vuelos con LH Group porque la nueva política de las aerolíneas LH, LX y OS te obliga a pagar por la comida y encima se paga el precio doble comparado con por ejemplo EZY... Eso es una crueldad en mi opinión 😡 Sin embargo diría que también es una pena dejar LH porque el producto que ofrecían ha sido bueno en los años pasados, sino con ese cambio drástico ya no creo que merece la pena subir con ellos... 😒
